Stopped here on a road trip during the pandemic with our dog, and has a very comfortable and quiet stay.

Checked in for the night. Couldn't stand the stench in the room. Broken A/C unit. Now, laying in the backseat of my car.

Called to see if they had openings at midnight. Person informed me they were closed. Not happy. Why state open 24/7 if not?

The Landing Hotel & Dining - Very spendy charcuterie board

The Landing Hotel & Dining

Their drinks were not to my liking. I couldn't even take 2 sips. Sent first drink back (which I…read moredon't think they took off the tab even though it was NOT CONSUMED) . I said I can't drink it and opted for a margarita. Have no idea how u can screw up a margarita but it was not drinkable either. No sweetness. Just unlike any other I've ever had. Left that full as well. The charcuterie board app was great. But expensive. The other food was super mediocre. Just felt like it was middle of the line out of the freezer. Cute presentation. Very underwhelming. I can honestly say they're the most unenjoyable cocktails I've ever had. Our server acted like she couldn't care less if we were happy, or satisfied. She knew I sent the first drink back, saw the 2nd left full and didn't ask a single ? The whole experience was very lacking. Skip this place.

We ate at The Laurel, the restaurant of the Landing Hotel, on January 17. Nice decor, small number…read moreof tables consistent with the small hotel. Well done menu, small but enticing. Server was excellent, very accommodating and considerate. They specialize in craft cocktails also. I had a Wallowa Riff, a tuned up Manhattan. Best Manhattan I have ever had. We had bacon wrapped dates, steak bites, risotto and for dessert a goat cheese cheesecake. Steak cooked perfectly, as was the broccolini. I cannot say enough good things about this place. If you are anywhere near La Grande Oregon, you must stop there for dinner.

Greenwell Motel - Not a big room, but it has all the features. The big window is to the right in this picture.

Our only real complaint was the bed. Hard beyond extra firm. But, apparently not all the rooms…read morehave the same features. We had a "pet" room that had the original green-tiled bathroom (see picture). The place looks like it was built in the 50s, and there is some deferred maintenance, but it's the least-priced motel in La Grande. My wife and I were born in the 50s, so we remember road trips to places like this, fondly. If you are coming from the West, it is the first motel you'll see. The Rodeway across the street is closed for remodeling. All the features you expect are there: flat screen TV (with more free cable channels than I've ever seen in a motel/hotel room), refrigerator with freezer, microwave, coffee maker, heater, air conditioner, and closet space with real hangers. No hair dryer. There is an old-fashioned, 6-foot-wide "mow strip" between the street and the sidewalk on the long side of the motel that has three huge trees and lots of grass to walk your dog. If you look at pictures, especially on Google street view, you will see what appears to be a pool enclosure. The pool is still there, but it's filled with dirt. The parking lot is pretty big, so you could park a trailer, RV, or moving van in it easily. Be sure to walk over to Hought's 24 Flavors for some ice cream!

Very Affordable - you get what you pay for. I'm giving it 3…read morestars because the bed and pillows were comfy (or I was just exhausted from driving those mountain roads). It was Old, inside and out. I'm fine with the green vintage bathroom tiles but everything seemed worn and tired. The toilet was a little wobbly and the shower head leaked and water shot up to the ceiling. I am sure the floors were clean but they were so worn that I felt better keeping shoes or socks on when I walked around. The room also smelled like burnt popcorn. I know that is a smell that is hard to get rid of so in the mornings while i was eating breakfast and it was still cooler out I kept the door open. I don't know if the owners were "so friendly" as other reviews stated but they were not rude. I think they were just tired and overwhelmed. From what I could tell only maybe 4 rooms at the motel were rentable as they were working to update the others. I feel with the number of guests they can have per night and the price they can charge for the quality of the rooms they provide it may take them awhile to get the place up to making a profit. Probably none of my business but I wish them well.

It definitely surprised me in a good way, the price is good for the room, mostly because this hotel is QUIET!! there's no highway next door, the parking lot wasn't full of drunks, there wasn't people opening and closing their doors loudly all night. Plus, dog friendly! The lawns around the hotel are primo according to my dog, they're not gross and the lawns are inviting for the dogs like with rocks and spikey plants like a lot of "dog friendly hotels" have, right next to a busy road. 4/5 as motels go, it is what it is, but it's clean The actual "dog friendliness" rating is 5/5

The rooms have A.C. but the weather was nice, and we had the window open most of the time. The staff was great, save for one employee. She wasn't terrible, just not helpful with how to access the t.v. guide. (It's Chanel 111) or why the jets on the jacuzzi weren't working (she said that the jacuzzi jets were probably cycling). Rrrriggt. Any who. Being from far away, we weren't sure of the breakfast options and those The Sandman Inn because it offers a few breakfast options, is what was advertised at the time. The breakfast options were awesome in our opinion. Different cereal choices. Pastries, Bagels, Fruit and my favorite. Microwaveable Croissant or Biscuit "Jimmy Dean" Egg, Sausage and Cheese sandwiches. Coffee, Tea. Yogurt. More than you we would dream of. We stay knowing we'll save a few bucks on breakfast. The pool area is nice, even if parts may not be working. Still worth the money.
