Good beer, cool atmosphere with an outdoor seating area. They have live music outside sometimes. The pizzas are good too.

Three Rings Brewery - A couple of Friday brews!!

Eric R. and I talked about a day trip on a Sunday, but alas, Three Rings is not open on Sundays. Eric R. had the Storm the Castle bike race this past Saturday, so I agreed to join him in McPherson for the weekend so I could specifically go here! I first discovered Three Rings at Manhattan's Brew at the Zoo, which I went to every year until COVID. After that, it moved from August to later in the Fall and I am never here for it. I am not sure exactly when I first tried it, but my notes from the 2019 event show that Three Rings' Wanderlust was a favorite. I purchased cans of Wanderlust ever since, but there was a shortage in the past year and after going to six liquor stores, I had to get it in Lawrence an hour and a half away! I cannot remember when this was, but the owner and his dad came to lead an event at JP's in the K-State Union for beer and food pairings. It was so fun. Finally I get here and Eric R.'s race registration came with a free beer. The very awesome staff said we could do a flight of 5, but we wanted to try 6, and she was still cool with that! So we tried six beers: Fields of Gold (wheat), Yankee Rose (blonde), Wanderlust (red), Vertigo (IPA), Bulldog (oatmeal stout), and Acres Wild (farmhouse ale/saison). We loved talking with everyone at the bar, both next to us and behind the bar. We chatted with the owner/brewer, and another staff member who also has a creative writing background. Numerous people there were Texans like us, and we had a lot of area connections. A food truck outside was closing and brought us free fries, which was an unexpected bonus! We bought 3 6-packs: Wanderlust, Acres Wild, and Broadsword (dark Scotch ale). On the way out was an afternoon farmers market where we bought freshly picked green beans to make for dinner that night. It was a perfect place to hang out and I definitely want to return! Also, we learned there is no "fear" in McPherson and to just call it MacTown!

We never make much more than gas money here but love going because of the great people we have meet in Chaney. The 6 pancakes and sausage were super and hit the spot. It was a beautiful day with the temp reaching 93 degrees, and about 250 bikers showing up. There were all kind of cool bikes, trikes and even a hot-rod that showed up. The great thing about the Sunday Breakfast rides for bikers is not where you are riding but that you are riding, and that you get to meet up with other bikers to share with. Bikers love to share their love for bikes, whether its stories of great roads to try or just looking and enjoying other beautiful bikes. Most riders spend hours cleaning their bikes and so are proud to show them off. Thanks Hank for giving us a great Sunday Breakfast Ride!

Not only serious about beer, but serious about craft and microbrew beer before beginning to appreciate not only the imbibables produced by Hank himself, but also the substantial collection of carefully curated beers, some cellared for more than a decade and not available anywhere else in the city, and probably the state. The crown jewels of which is the Sam Adams Utopia - a 26% monster of a beer that costs hundreds of dollars a bottle if you can find it - which is offered for purchase by the shot. And Hank has every vintage that has ever been produced. You also have to be serious about your craft to continue to remain in business in this aforementioned Nowheresville for eight years, confident that the quality of your beer will bring in customers. Judging by them being open for a mere twenty-four hours a week and the size of the crowds during my visits didn't point to Hank's having to deal with a packed house every night, but it was still much busier than you would expect. Especially when you consider that there's only one food item on the menu. The barbecued sandwiches, a mixture of beef and pork cooked in their stout, isn't going to steal any blue ribbons from Pig In Pig Out, but they pair with the beers very well and have an annoying habit of disappearing a little too quickly. Hank the host also pairs with the beers very well, making sure to stop at every table and strike up a conversation. It seems like everyone knows the guy, and if you don't, you will by the end of the night. Despite the secluded location and the niche product, one man's passion for beer seems enough to draw an enthusiastic crowd to sip, savor and enjoy.

Wish you would have told me that when you called. The waitress was lovely, shrugged her off and said, "follow me". She seated us and was pleasant through the entire experience. We just ordered two burgers, a few fried appetizers and two bowls of pasta. As the apps were delivered, owner comes back out and says "it's going to be 30 minutes" for those two bowls of pasta. She also added, we have been dead since noon (why do we need to know that?!?!) Well, 1) as the place was still completely empty, please remind me why you couldn't have started the pasta before the apps? 2) cooking pasta only takes 8 minutes - NOT 30. 3) she obviously wasn't happy we were there. 4) half of the apps we ordered weren't available. 5) spinach and artichoke dip is just FLAT OUT disgusting and was served cold. Summary: GREAT waitress. She smiled through it all. If the owner doesn't want to take a party of 9 on a day when she's had zero customers? This place won't be open in 6 months. WORST FOOD EVER. Will never be back. Ambiance? Cold - as we knew the owner didn't want us there.
