As we walked in we were approached by a girl that told us everything in here is made by students and all the profits from the shop go back to them. When I heard that I knew I had to get something even if it was small, to help support. I kept with the theme of avocados as a festival was going on across from the shop for the weekend and grabbed a handmade avocado bath bomb.

With a nice selection of soaps, key chains, bracelets, cutting boards with hilarious quotes, and other eclectic products for good prices, I was thrilled to discover that Coastland is a nonprofit organization that trains high school students to produce all the products sold in the shop! The proceeds from sales goes back to purchasing materials for the students. I love the business model. Additionally, their products have that unique flair that only high school students can contribute. I found two great gifts for my nephews including a wooden Minecraft box and wooden journal cover with Animation. I love the Star Wars themed cutting board. The prices are very reasonable! The staff member who was working there shared with me her story, as she had been one of the high school students who had made art and returned to work here post-graduation. Full circle! I love it! Island Outfitters is a beachy themed adult/seniors store, I would say, that carries mostly brand name clothing made with high quality materials and very high pricing. They do have a section I enjoy browsing at the front that include seashell style gifts and home decor. During the holidays they have beautiful, unique ornaments as well, but again way out of my price range. There is a funny little fur ball dog that greets you each time you walk in. It's very friendly and well trained, just wants to say hi! They also usually have packets of California poppy seeds at the front in an orange paper wrapped back for you to take, no charge. I love the concept of keeping California traditions alive like that. The staff here are welcoming and very focused on their jobs. They may not make a huge effort for customer service but if you go up and ask questions they're glad to help. Parking can be found on Linden Ave, side streets, or the lot behind Crushcakes. I will continue to come back to see what new ideas that have brought into the store, but quite honestly unless there is a massive 70% off bargain sale I don't see myself seriously shopping/purchasing here.

A staff member confidently told me (IN FRONT OF MY BUYER) that my IGI-certified 4CT lab-grown diamond was fake and "for sure Cubic Zirconia", even after I demonstrated the paperwork. After more staff members took a look, they come back to confirm it WAS actually a lab diamond (like I tried to explain!) That level of contradiction is beyond unprofessional and completely destroyed trust in the middle of a sale. On top of that, they tried to quote me around $3,000 to "rebuild" the ring because the band is thin, which felt wildly inflated. However, another person on the floor was much kinder and explained that this was due to the professional grade. Either way, she was much more informative than the other person that did not know the difference between a CZ and a diamond. This was embarrassing, frustrating, and handled terribly. I would not trust their judgment. Get a second opinion somewhere else.

Oh that tree is glorious, over 225 feet with a truck of neatly 21 inch circumference. Anyways back to the shop. It's in a red painted building in front of Lucky Llama coffee. Heritage sells sustainable, eco friendly items in a curated country store. The merchandise range from baby clothes, toys, art, kitchenware, stationary, vegetable and flower seeds, dishes, drink ware, etc. Think modern and hip. The items are practical and beyond the mundane same old. The price points are at boutique pricing but not so outrageously priced. The items that caught my eye were art prints from Hello Coyote, and Little Salt Wagon. May I add, pieces were affordable ranging from small prints, greeting cards, to larger sizes. Little Salt Wagon is art from local Ventura County artist Amanda Cox. Simple, but beautiful watercolors inspired by the rural Ventura County surroundings.
