We had an absolutely fantastic experience at Sandbox VR today. This was my wife's and my second time, and we brought my son and his wife for their first visit--and it did not disappoint. We played Deadwood Phobia, and it was an absolute blast. The immersive experience is next-level--you truly feel like you're inside the game, working together and reacting in real time. It's the kind of activity that brings everyone together, whether it's your first time or your fifth. What really stood out was the staff. They were incredibly helpful, patient, If you're looking for something different, interactive, looking for a great workout, and genuinely fun for family or friends, this is it. Amazing place, fun experience... but the value isn't there yet Sean and I came here for our 15th anniversary and played Amber Sky 2088, and I want to be very clear: the location itself was fantastic. The building is gorgeous, the DOCO location feels very upscale, and the staff were incredibly nice, helpful, and fun. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about the customer service. My two stars are about the experience itself: the price, the runtime, and the technical glitches. We paid about $127 for two people, spent roughly 10 minutes on instructions, and only got about 30 minutes of actual gameplay. And that's where I really struggled with the value. There are other VR experiences that offer an hour, so it was disappointing to have such a cool, polished VR experience end so quickly. And honestly, that's what makes it frustrating: the games are already really cool. The videos, graphics, environment, and concept are fantastic. I kept thinking, Why can't this just be longer? I didn't leave wanting to spend another $127--I left wanting the game we were already playing to keep going. I also had some headset issues during the game that required constant adjustment, including moments where my vision became doubled, and we experienced a couple of other technical glitches. The staff were helpful when issues came up, but there's only so much the staff can do when the problem is with the technology itself. I absolutely believe in what Sandbox VR is doing. I'd love to see longer game runtimes, more affordable pricing, and family/group deals. Give me a 30-minute game for $50-$75 for two people, or keep the $127 price and give me substantially more gameplay. That's the kind of change that would make me want to come back. I'd also love to try the zombie experience, and I even suggested an interactive haunted-house-style VR game where you can actually fight the scary things. So this isn't a "the place was bad" review. The place was awesome. The staff were awesome. We had fun. My frustration is with the people designing and pricing the experience, because I think they've built something genuinely great that could be so much better with more time and better value. Keep the building. Keep the staff. Keep the games. Just give us more game for our money. read more

$120 TO BECOME A KID AGAIN... AND THEN GET KICKED OUT 25 MINUTES LATER?! Okay, okay... maybe that title is a little dramatic. But seriously, I've been eyeballing Sandbox VR online for a while now, and I finally decided that my wife and I's 15th anniversary was the perfect excuse to stop acting like responsible adults and go be kids again. We booked our time, got ourselves together, and headed down to DOCO before grabbing some food. We arrived early because I had no idea what random ish was going to be happening downtown, and I wanted to make sure we had enough time to park. Yes... we're old. We plan for parking now. We had some time to kill, so we walked around DOCO and checked things out. Sacramento has definitely changed down there since they destroyed the one thing that actually made Sacramento feel like Sacramento and turned it into a tourist trap... but that's a whole different review. Anyway... Sandbox VR. When our time came, we checked in and met with Connor -- I believe that was his name -- who got us set up and ready to go. Right from the beginning, the staff was friendly, welcoming, and had great personalities. No complaints there. Then we got into the game. And honestly? WE HAD FUN! It was actually pretty cool experiencing VR together. We're used to seeing VR and gaming at home, but doing something where both of us were actually part of the same experience made it different. We laughed, moved around, got into it, and for a little while we weren't thinking about bills, kids, responsibilities, or the fact that our backs aren't 25 anymore. Then my headset decided it wanted to join the anniversary celebration too. Toward the end of the game, my equipment started glitching. Thankfully, it happened toward the end, but it definitely took some of the shine off the experience. And then came my biggest question: "Wait... THAT'S IT?" I paid around $120, and I honestly thought we'd be inside playing for at least an hour. Our actual gameplay felt more like 20-25 minutes. Now, maybe my wife and I are just secretly elite gamers and absolutely destroyed that game. Maybe we finished faster than expected. Or maybe I misunderstood how long the actual gameplay portion was supposed to last. Either way, when I put the price, the amount of gameplay, and the equipment glitch together, I couldn't help but feel like I didn't quite get the $120 worth of bang for my buck that I expected. But here's where I give Sandbox VR credit. The people were great. Connor and the staff were friendly, professional, and handled the equipment issue appropriately. Nobody gave us an attitude or made the situation uncomfortable. We also got a video of our experience, and Connor took some pictures for us, which was a nice touch and gave us something to remember the anniversary outing by. So I'm not walking away saying, "Never go here." Not at all. We genuinely had a good time. I just think the price-to-playtime ratio could be better. If I'm paying $120 for two people, I want to feel like I left saying, "Man, that was worth every penny!" Instead, I left saying... "That was fun... but did we accidentally select the appetizer version of the game?" Still, my wife and I got to spend part of our 15th anniversary running around like teenagers, shooting virtual things, laughing at each other, and forgetting we're supposed to be adults. And honestly, that's worth something. Would I recommend trying Sandbox VR? Yes. Would I do it again? Maybe. Would I pay $120 for 20-25 minutes again without asking exactly how long we're actually playing? Absolutely the hell not. But hey... anniversary mission accomplished. We went in as two grown adults, came out as kids again, and only one of us had a malfunctioning headset. I'll let you guess which one. read more

This was such a fun experience. The staff were super helpful and friendly. The experience was a lot of fun. We were sweating by the end of it. They provide a very spacious room and the custom highlight videos at the end are a nice touch. They have a wide selection of games to choose from including family friendly or more mature ones. It was my birthday and they made me feel like a king. This is a great group putting and you're guaranteed to have a blast. read more

Who says playing video games is not exercise ?? Well it isn't until you play VR video games. OMG funnest work out ever!! I broke a sweat and had an absolute blast. My daughter and I noticed this location after dinner the other night. I've seen the place in another state and never had time to go try it. So we said let's do it. We chose squid games because I mean who wouldn't try squid games in VR where it's at least safe. Hahahah I had to admit she beat me. This was very humbling as I believe I am quite competitive. Yet I will get a rematch one day. Now we did good with not running into walls or each other and two show you a safety video and remind you before the game how to manage that. The equipment is not heavy and easy to get on and off. They sanitize between sessions so you are guaranteed clean equipment. I only took the picture outside I think it's best to keep it suspenseful. Probably one of the cooler things I've done in a while! I went with friends to do their Squid Game VR experience, and it's incredible what technology can do now. They have you gear up with wrist and ankle sensors (I would wear comfortable clothes and shoes- think workout gear!) and once you're in the room they help you with your headset. If you're wearing makeup you will definitely sweat it off. There's a microphone on the headsets that lets you talk with everyone around you, and the games are fun, interactive, and definitely make you break a sweat! Staff is accommodating and helpful, and checking in was seamless. It's a bit of a pricier activity but definitely something to try at least once! read more

I've been to a couple different VR places and I have to say this was my least favorite. To start, they encourage you to come 15-20 min early. When we arrived they said they were running 30 min behind, so we actually had to wait almost an hour. Why couldn't someone notify us? It's not like they had my contact information when I made reservations. When we finally got geared up for our game, they place you in a little box with very limited space to roam. Half the time I had issues with my headset, limiting my view and causing me to die multiple times. Throughout the game I kept mentioning that I was having issues, hoping someone would come and address it but that didn't happen. Overall for $60/pp I expected a better experience but was very disappointed. read more

Me and my son had a great time. I booked a session and we started about 5 mins after our booking time which was okay. I didn't book a private session but we ended up getting our own room anyway which was nice. That could be because it wasn't very busy at the time we went but idk. We are visiting from out of town and we found this place on a whim. We played the Seekers of the Shard on one day and because my husband loved it so much, we did Rebel Moon on the second day. I am not great at VR (we have an Oculus at home) because I tend to get vertigo. But the games are rendered in excellent detail and because we can see our bodies, the vertigo is non-existent for me which was surprising in a good way. The games have an engaging plot and a short tutorial before starting the main story for non-experienced players like me. Controls are intuitive so it's not hard to learn. It is a little physical and if you want an actual good score it may require some ducking or kneeling (I just continued to die). The facility and gear is clean and well kept. The staff (Joey and Umar on one day and Joey and Javier on the other day - sorry to them for butchering names ) were friendly and professional. They will help gear you up. If you are a bigger human, never fear, the gear is quite adjustable! Bring water - you do burn some calories playing if you are actually trying to burn points. Otherwise, they sell water in reusable aluminum bottles for $5 a piece. Parking can be found in the building ($2 per 20 minutes). Sandbox VR is an excellent way to burn a bit of an afternoon and we would highly recommend it! P.S. If you have a fear of spiders, please ask for arachnaphobia mode. read more

From the moment we started, there were constant issues with the equipment. Instead of enjoying the VR experience, the staff spent most of the time stopping and restarting the equipment, trying to fix problems that kept happening over and over. Even after they claimed the issue was resolved, the same headset continued to shut off in the middle of the experience, repeatedly interrupting the session and making it impossible to enjoy. It was frustrating and honestly unfair to the person using it. What made the situation even worse was the lack of accountability. Despite the ongoing problems and the fact that the equipment clearly wasn't functioning properly, they refused to provide a refund, even after I specifically requested one. It was extremely disappointing to pay full price for something that never worked the way it was supposed to. I made a reservation at 9:35Pm, paid $240 for my boyfriend & I to play the squid games game. We checked in at 9:14pm and waited. An employee checked in multiple times with us about the name & reservation. Finally at 9:51pm they told us it would be another 30 mins till a room would be available. I then asked for a refund because we did not want to wait an hour after our reservations. (what's the point of a reservation if walk ins or all the rooms are busy for 30 more mins past our reservation) The employee told us that they're not allowed to do refunds & I could only get store credit that only goes towards that location. We're not from sacramento so basically I just lost $240 to this company. 0 STARS read more
