I try not to do bad reviews often but i am so frustrated at this point i am going to try to cancel my membership early My fiance and i received gift cards for our birthdays for here and we received a text that they were doing 20% off an 80 min massage this weekend so we booked it thinking it would be a perfect time to use the gift card. After the appointment, the same woman in the front was checking us out and i mentioned we had gift cards we wanted to use for our services and wanted to also make sure the promotion was applied. She said ok and that she would send me the receipt. Nervous to leave, we lingered to wait for the receipt but she continued to say she would send it. On my way home i received a call saying she needed my credit card information so i gave it to her over the phone. I checked my email and saw my receipt. I was charged nearly double what we should've paid. I called back and she said that we cannot use gift cards on massages that have the discount. MIND YOU, she called and also never stated this knowing we had already spoken regarding the promotion. I called again after rereading the promotion i received and there is no word or statement saying i couldn't use a gift card for part of my payment. I have never even heard of this concept especially that a gift card is still a form of payment. She said i could talk with management and she'll give them my info. At this point i dont even know what to believe. I'm in so much disbelief at my experience. I truly love everything else and the massage therapists are amazing but my experience with the front has been a nightmare and i can't keep coming knowing it's like this every time which leaves me torn. Hi Gretchen, The funny thing is, I never asked for any exceptions. That's the irony. I'm not entitled and I've always been a big believer that a late cancel deserves payment to the facility and the providers! A lot of times you guys did make exceptions because of the mistakes on your end. I absolutely never needed any exceptions for myself. So what you reviewed in your system is not accurate either. But I've spent a lot of time trying to explain to a lot of different people on your team, only because I wanted to believe that things would change. The first time, mistakes happen and I'm not somebody that is above people making mistakes. The second time I used my voice to tell the front desk what happened. They did make an exception for me and I do appreciate that.. several times later, either due to your new system or somebody not doing their job in a detailed manner, my appointment times got screwed up. The final time, was when I spent over an hour looking for parking and I realized that this place just wasn't for me anymore. Instead of charging my credit which I had prepaid for, you decided to charge my credit card. While I do want you to succeed, I also want to make sure that others understand that by getting a membership, you have to keep in mind the traffic and the terms. In hindsight, if I had just paid per Massage, I would've never known any of this, and I probably would've saved myself a lot of headache. So many of your front desk women are wonderful, hopefully my review will help the communication between the managers and staff. I do believe it's the balance of why reviews are so important- to keep everybody honest and accountable. I know you will change a little bit due to this situation and I hope you do! I wish everyone well, I'm only one person and I'm sure I'm not the only person who feels this way nor am I the majority. Unfortunately I had a poor experience- and have reached out 3 times to speak to management with no luck, so here we are. I purchase 3 hydra facial giftcards. At my first Hydrafacial-the machine wasn't working. My facialist spent the first 20 minutes attempting to get the suction to work, testing it on her arm, even resetting and cleaning the machine. No luck. She was able to apply a peel then proceed with manual extractions. While the facialist was professional and talented- I shouldn't be paying for a hydrafacial if I didn't receive the machine exfoliation and treatment. Aside it being a flawed atmosphere with obviously waiting to get the machine to work. I find this completely unacceptable and if management reached back out we could have found a solve. I offered to pay and receive a different facial with the machine down- but I was still charged the hydrafacial. read more

While I enjoyed my service and think the staff are all lovely, I was disappointed bc I got a gel X manicure, and within 6 days on vacation 2 of the nails popped off. I've had gel X manicures last me over a month in the past so this was disappointing especially considering the price. read more

Russell is some type of wizard. I went in for a 80 min massage and it felt like it was 5 minutes I never wanted it to end. I am a little bit of a wimp when it comes to pressure and he made me feel so comfortable and worked out without being in pain. I had to take a nap after I was so relaxed. Tried the new location today in Downtown Manhattan Beach and it was exceptional!! The 80 minute deep tissue massage with Stephanie was on another level! she was soft spoken, accommodating, personable, professional and really worked the tension out of me. The massage was fine, but then at the end they claimed they couldn't charge my husbands card because they only hold the reservation with the card. It was a nasty surprise on Valentine's because he thought it was paid for and didn't want me to have to pay for it. They customer service was also trash, they didn't smile at me or really greet me. She also chased me down the street like? I felt unwelcome and yes I was the only Black person there. *my man was pissed and wondered why didn't they call him instead of doing that to me on Valentine's Day. Note the response. his card did not decline. This is a lie- they said I needed to have his card because it needed to be charged physically. Why would he think I needed to have his card? That's something that should've been advised to him. I know it didn't decline because he sent me the money via Zelle immediately after and he spent way more money that night. Treated my mom to a spa day. She got a facial and and we got massages after. I had Russell and he was amazing! I needed these knots to be gone and he did just that in one session. I always do deep tissue and he focused on the areas that really needed it. I will DEFINITELY be coming back. Highly recommend! Parking can be a bit tricky but....worth it. read more

I recently gifted my sister the CBD massage and she said Adam was amazing and she never wants anyone else to ever give her a massage! This weekend and my wife and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary. To help us commemorate the event we booked a couples massage at sand spa. From start to finish the experience was great. A short walk from the beach, this location is outstanding. The facility was clean and inviting. The staff was warm and welcoming. My masseuse was Latricia. She delivered one of the best massage experiences I've ever had. I'm so grateful for her expertise and energy. My wife's masseuse was great as well. But unfortunately I can't recall her name. I would rather communicate this privately to the business, but I was not thrilled with the massage that I had today. This was my very first visit to the spa. The service started belated which wasn't a big deal, but I understood it was supposed to be deep tissue as that's what I booked. That is not what I felt I received. It was also odd with the specific therapist I was booked with; as she jumped right in when we started, and at the end finished, left the room, and I never saw her again after that. I'm used to the therapist either waiting outside of the door or having some type of final interaction but none of that seemed to take place. It just felt off. I felt like I needed a lot more from the massage, and the purpose of my massage really was for some muscle restoration and deep work along with de stressing. I'd like to give it one more go and try another therapist as I'm hopeful that was the issue. The spa itself is in a great location and very calming inside. I had gift cards equivalent to $200 I made an appointment but unfortunately I got really sick I tried to cancel but was told I could only reschedule or my card would be charged .. to avoid being charged I drove to the appointment and on the way there I ran over a pothole and poppped my tire . I got a massage and brow stain. It was wonderful that they fit me in for a drop in. The reason I thought a drop in might be doable was because I could choose several on-line options for services almost every hour that day. It is a nice space, friendly staff, the curtains felt a little less comforting than actual walls or doors. Bad review is only because I was not sure that either the massage therapist or brow tech had any experience. The massage was nice, but I get them all the time and this felt off. Brows looked practically unchanged. I would request people with experience next time. read more

I have been coming to Sand Spa since 2016, but just had a very unfortunate experience that will make me find a new spa. I had purchased a package and had 7 (yes, seven!) remaining massages and asked for an extension. In the past, extensions were granted without any questions or issues. I was told that management had changed and no exception would be made despite me suggesting that maybe 5 of the 7 get extended which seemed fair given likely price changes. When I was told no I mentioned that I would need to stop referring friends and then management became aggressive and redacted an offer for one massage and kept referring to my package being expired for 1.5 years even though it was only expired for 6 months. It just went off the rails with unprofessionalism. I understand that I was asking for something here, but there was a pretty easy way to make this work for both parties and keep an 8 year loyal customer who has consistently sent referrals in, and it's not by telling them that management has changed and so policies invisibly changed did the customer and to forfeit ~$550. Giving two stars because I used to adore Kerri as a masseuse before she left, but beware of current customer service. I also explained that I had a very poor massage that wasn't worth the time or money (2 out of 10) after Kerri left and it's why I stopped using the package for a while. Worth noting, this is the first non-5 star review I've ever written in my life! Would be happy to work with the owners to remedy this situation if they'd like to reach out. I came in unable to walk due to tight muscles in my back and hip but after a massage with LaTricia, I walked out of the spa able to walk and sit in the car with so much less pain. I typically go to European Wax Center because I have a wax pass, it's easy, etc. However since they've been closed due to pandemic, I figured I'd give Sand Spa a try since I live within walking distance and they're currently open with all of the covid precautions in place. They're currently by appointment only and all reservations are made via online. They have you wait outside until the time of your appointment. When I walked in, the gal who was working (I wish I caught her name- I had a 12:10 appointment 10/19 and she was wonderful!) sanitized, took my temperature your temperature, and was fully masked. I got my eyebrows done and a brazilian. Both were quick and painless. Again, I wish I got my specialist's name- she was the best! I'll send an email to ask and edit this posting once I find out. Highly recommend giving this place a try. I'll definitely be coming here and supporting the neighborhood business from here on out. EDIT: My esthetician's name was Genny. I had the best massage I've ever had yesterday with Justin. First, the check in was easy and I was offered water as I waited the minute or two for Justin to get me. The massage was a dream. I'm usually a little tense but he put me at ease and in moments I was so relaxed. I'm very ticklish in my legs so usually I don't like that part of the massage, but somehow, it wasn't ticklish at all and just felt amazing. I'll definitely be back and I hope Justin is there when I do. FYI this is not a "fancy" spa but it is clean, friendly and smells divine. This has been my favorite massage spot. Mostly because of one specific masseuse who I just found out no longer works here. My last couple of massages have been okay. During one, the masseuse talked and asked questions about my job most of the session. Most recently, I went for a 90 min deep/Swedish. Well. Ma'am spent very little time on my actual back area and focused on my limbs. While sitting. I guess that's why. I've never had someone massage me while sitting. I didn't like it at all. I was given a GC by Gretchen who is one of the founders of this Spa. First of all, when I spoke to her she was extremely professional and caring. You could just tell that the satisfaction of client is her number one priority. I decided to use the certificate on lash extensions. Mimi was technician that worked on my lashes. She is so gentle and professional, not to mention warm and sweet. She made me feel very comfortable by providing a blanket and the environment is relaxing given that the process is time consuming. Full set of lashes took about two hours for me. The results are unbelievable! So natural and beautiful. I could not recommend Mimi and service enough. The idea of having your lashes done at a relaxing environment vs a lash bar is a huge plus too. So glad to have found Mimi and being given the GC. I had an appointment with a different spa for a Hydrafacial right before my wedding and unfortunately they cancelled but I was able to get an appointment at Sand Spa (with less than 24 hours notice!) and Victoria truly saved my day! Just had a pre-natal massage at Sand Spa and it was wonderful! Especially these days with the pandemic, finding a place that offered a safe and experienced pre-natal massage was not the easiest. They definitely adhere to all the safety guidelines such as checking temperatures, masking etc. I opted for a 90 minute massage. At this point of my pregnancy, low back pain is constant, and I always have a lot of tightness around my shoulders. Gabe was awesome at working on all these spots and I just felt so relaxed afterwards. And the price point for the quality of the service is really excellent. ' The only downside is the parking situation is this part of town. If you have the flexibility to come on a weekday, definitely preferred. On a summer weekend, give yourself plenty plenty of extra time and prepare to walk a few blocks. read more
