Not what I was expecting but it was novel and refreshing. The "cheese" plate was excellent and I didn't miss the dairy. You wouldn't necessarily mistake it for the real deal but the fact that they're actually cultivating bacteria to mirror the natural processes of aging and fermentation is pretty amazing. Pastas we're fantastic, we had the carbonara and tagliatelle with ragu. I can't say I'd order my secondi again, but it doesn't appear to be on the current menu, and it is a matter of taste not quality. My dining partner loved her soy medallions as well as the cannolo served for dessert. As with everything in Sicily, value is incredible. We're talking €50 pp for a multi course, world class gourmet meal. I honestly would not be surprised to pay 4x in NYC or Chicago. If you're a vegan, this is probably worth the drive from anywhere in Sicily even without everything else Siracusa has to offer, and non-vegans won't be disappointed either.

Located centrally, it stood out for the crowds literally queuing at the bar and sprawling round cosy outdoor tables. We joined the fast moving queue to order our drinks and discovered the holy grail of bars: a place serving exceptionally high quality ingredients - and serving them well - at very low prices. My non-drinking companion ordered an alcohol-free cocktail and was invited to describe their favourite fruits to enable the barman to come up with something suitable. This drink, served attractively in a large glass with fresh fruit, cost €3. I ordered a gin and tonic, one of my favourite aperitifs but also a half hearted test in any new bar to judge a barman's competence. This is a drink you can get so right... or so wrong! I was delighted to be offered a full range of premium gins and chose Il Gin del Professore, an artisan gin made in Rome, served with premium tonic and a garnish of my choosing. This cost €5. I later went back to the bar to sample an amaro and was given a thoughtful run-down of the options and asked about the kind of flavour bases I preferred. Despite the queues, each customer is given thoughtful and attentive service and it's no wonder it's so popular with these sensational prices. Added to an attractive and eclectic environment, it would be fun in the winter too. It's busy so the toilets aren't as clean as I'd like but the atmosphere was so great, I'm happy to give it 5. Highly recommended.

We started off with a cocktail at the bar. Our bartender was charming. We were given some tasty snacks to accompany our drinks. The outdoor tables at the restaurant have the same breathtaking view. The waitstaff were lovely and attentive. The home made bread, tomato butter and house olive oil were excellent. The chef sent out some excellent small bites to start. The wine list was good, with a lot of fairly priced selections. My wife and her friend started off with an excellent salad. My buddy and I enjoyed ring pasta served over meat sauce. We also really liked our fried fish entrees. Our waitress recommended the lobster and pasta special to my wife and her friend. They decided to split an order. I had read that lobster and some of the fish were priced by weight, but didn't give it another thought. The waitress brought out a nice lobster and showed it to us. Imagine our surprise when we were charged 180 euros for this single dish. I am from Manhattan and have eaten at expensive restaurants all over the world. This is the most expensive entree that I have ever paid for, even when split between two people. I was shocked and a bit embarrassed. This put a damper on our evening. I would happily enjoy another meal at this special location, but buyer beware when it comes to entrees priced by weight!

Live soft piano music drifted across the terrace where we were seated. As others have noted the view from La Terrazza degli Dei is spectacular (the Temples are illuminated at night) which only added to the experience of the evenings. Breakfast is another treat as it is served on the lower terrace of the restaurant with an expansive choice of items and with a tower of assorted pastries delivered to each table (and including a morning view of the Temples).

The pumpkin sage ravioli were over saged to the point of inedibility. There is no way that whoever cooked this tasted what they were producing. The pomodoro insalata was a bowl of mediocre cherry tomatoes in a dish. No olive oil or seasonings whatsoever. The Sicilian swordfish was way overcooked and dry. The best items were the bottled water and the frozen French fries. Most of the food was cleared by the bussing staff without comment. No wait staff came by at all to ask how things were. So, on arrival, there were no outside seats available. The place was very busy. We were quickly seated inside but, then we were ignored for an unusually long time, even for Italy. Then we ordered additional wine and our meals. My wife ordered the chicken stew which turned out to be an excellent homemade olive infused slowly cooked dish with carrots and potatoes. I ordered slow cooked meatballs in Pomodoro Sauce which was served with a bit of light cream on top, also excellent. But the best part of the meal were the small crusty hot rolls provided to not miss eating ALL the wonderful sauces of our dishes. So, the food was a resounding 5 but, we had to rate the restaurant a 4 overall due to the initial experience. That said, we would gladly return but will make reservations first.
