That worked out okay, because our tasting was done outside on the patio and the kids kept busy. I really appreciated the nice touch from the winemaker/owner of giving our kids some goldfish to snack on- their favorite! This allowed us adults to taste all of Slate Run's wines, and also learn about the grapes, the process, and even the property. The winemaker/owner is very knowledgeable and is willing to share. I felt educated, but not overwhelmed. We went through the tasting in a timely manner, not too fast, not too slow. We had no intention of staying afterward, since we walked in less than an hour before closing time. Once our tasting was done, my wife and I decided on three wines to take home. His wines are unique in comparison to most of the central Ohio wineries- we've been to almost every one. I can drink all types of wines, my wife is only into dry reds. She was not crazy about the dry reds, so she let me pick and I went with three wines on the sweeter side. There is not much to the space inside of the building, but especially on a nice day, there are a few tables out on his patio to either do a tasting or drink a bottle. I love that we were able to take home a logo'd class with our tasting. Nice souvenir! I would stop back by next time I'm in the area to get some of the wines we enjoyed on that day.

We paired our dinner with a Rhonemus red and the wine was great. The building is gorgeous and the staff is wonderful. We spent some time chatting with Barry, the owner, and that chat led us to a tour. We learned the history of the property, checked out the cellar and saw the private tasting room which will bring us back for sure. Can't rave enough about our evening, so glad we decided to try it and we will return!

I wouldn't exactly say that I am a cider connoisseur but I know what I like and what I don't like. I live in New York City which is a cider hub and I lived in Michigan and Chicago, where ciders are also popular. Not so much in Ohio so it was a joy to find this gem. To my surprise, the sun tea is my absolute favorite. I don't generally like black teas, which is the base for this one so at first I didn't try it until James the owner and cider maker described it to me. I was sold. I love it! I tend to like drier ciders. So if you're like me, try the mojito. But even the fruity ciders are not extra sweet like the ones you buy off the shelves. Even better, you can actually taste the fruit! What started in January as a random stop traveling back from Florida has quickly turned into one of those places that feels impossible to pass up when we are anywhere nearby. This place was busy all afternoon, and honestly, I think that says everything about what Killing Tree has built out there. Great wine, great food, live music, a beautiful property, and a crowd that genuinely seemed happy to be there. It feels less like a winery and more like a community gathering spot. Shannon took care of us this visit and was fantastic from beginning to end. The fact that she remembered me from months ago completely caught me off guard and immediately made us feel welcomed back. That kind of personal touch matters and you can tell the staff truly cares about the experience people are having. The pizza was outstanding, the BLT with turkey added on was piled high, and somehow that bottle of Gosh Dang disappeared way too fast sitting out there in the sunshine. There is just something special about this place. Relaxed, welcoming, beautiful, and incredibly easy to lose track of time at. Already looking forward to trip number three.

I asked the waitress TWO times whether the sweet potato fries for the sandwich entree was extra and she confirmed TWICE that it was not an extra cost. Welp, upon paying, guess what? It was $4 extra! Just look at my picture to see that like 12 skinny AF fries are NOT worth the extra charge! Their house chips were great. I ordered the brie & jam sandwich and it was filling and delicious. I also ordered a crispy chicken salad and was pretty disappointed at the quality. I abhor cheese shavings on salad (they don't belong on salads!) and there was just mounds of very processed looking cheese. There was not enough chicken pieces for the price, too many croutons, no onion or enough tomato; just cheap lettuce. They don't serve regular glasses of water here. It was all crushed ice! We suspected they were just pre-wine slushies! This was really odd. There's not real wait service but since we sat upstairs, people needed to bring stuff up so I did tip a usual amount. I wanted to experience more of a country, made from scratch type of setting so was not too happy with the very Chilis/Applebee quality and presentation of their food.

Our hobby is to visit wineries through out Ohio, Ky, Ind. We've kept tract and our count is over…read more100. We were excited to put this place on our list. We have 2 dogs. Visiting over 100 wineries, the latest thing to do is bring your dogs. I don't know of any country side winery that does not welcome dogs. We pulled in and there was only 1 other car in the lot (owner/staff?) I waited on the patio with the dogs while my husband went in to order a glass of wine for us. He mentioned that he was ordering for his wife; as I was outside with the dogs. He was told (in a pretty deadpan way) that dogs were not permitted on the property. No explanation.....my husband came out and said, "We have to go." This wasn't about a certain breed as no one even saw the dogs. There were no signs that say, "dogs not welcome." I get it; his place his rules. But say it nicely. Even without the dogs, I won't be back
