Yelp is my go to when traveling for everything restaurants, services etc. I was going to be in Santa Fe for Thanksgiving weekend and needed roots done on my hair. I looked at reviews ahead of time and contacted Maggie at Sanctuary Salon. She called back quickly to say she had availability the day after the holiday. I had my formula from my reg hair stylist. Not complicated very basic 7N 20%. I arrived and the service began. I struggled with whether to write this review or not but after contemplating I think it's important that service providers get honest feedback otherwise they can't improve. Maggie also volunteered to do some foil highlights for me which I usually do every other apt. I agreed as long as it didn't impact her schedule. The end result was that I'm not sure what happened but she didn't really put the root cover throughout for example both sides around my ears got nothing so gray remained and the gray cover on roots didn't last. I have very little gray as it is. I thought when she was done that something was amiss and then the next day I knew it was the case. As far as the highlighting foils you couldn't tell I'd even had any highlights at all. My hair really looked like it did when I walked in. I'm not sure if it didn't process long enough or the formula was wrong or what happened maybe I needed a toner applied not sure . I paid quite a bit for these services and gave a very nice tip. What I have learned is that I really need to do more research and make sure the reviews are more current. I don't mind paying for great service at all and Maggie was very nice I just wish it had been a quality service. read more

I found my new hair stylist! I really needed a cut and some highlights. I found Maggie at the Sanctuary Salon, her salon has a nice feel to it. I didn't have to wait, she has a nice little selection of beverages that she offered me. She sat me down and gave me a consultation before starting my cut and color. I showed her some photos of the hair color I wanted. She really listened to me gave me some great feedback. She also cut some of the best layers I've ever had! She was very thorough as well. This was my first time to use Maggie at Sanctuary City. I had moved to our home here in Santa Fe and had not been able to get my hair trimmed by my stylist at home, who has trimmed my hair for the last 20+ years. So I was very skeptically about having someone else trim my hair after 20 years. I explained to Maggie how I liked to wear my hair and where I had "cowlicks". She asked me if I was comfortable in her using a razor on my thick but fine hair. I said sure but had not had a razor this used on my hair for over 20 years. So off we go....... i got a fantastic haircut!!! I waited for two weeks to post this because I wanted to live with their styling for awhile and see how it worked for the way I style my hair at home. I am VERY picky about my hair and a good haircut is the trick to how it works for me when I have to style it at home. Maggie did a great job. My hair is easy to style at home and the "cowlicks" have been tamed to cooperate with the way I want to style my hair. I rebooked another trim with Maggie at the end of 5 weeks (my usual schedule). Beware...I am an award winning Television make up artist,who has worked with some of the best hair dressers in the business.Usually at award shows,or the White House,I know what good is.After the pandemic,so many hairdressers left the business,went to other shops,or gave it up all together.This I didn"t understand.I covered 911,so when my gal,folded up her salon and left,I was baffled.She was wonderful,as was the one after her,but they both left.I called,and called,and couldnt get in anywhere?We are booked until November?So I said,how about a one time fix.The top of my head is brown,the rest a GoldWell 11N beautiful blonde.I begged,I offered more money,because I had to go to the White House,representing Santa Fe.ICalled Sanctuary Salon.One woman,one chair,She was an older gal,so I got nervous.I told her what I used,she said nothing and proceeded to mix up a brew.Her application was good,I was the shade of Pumpkin?I told her,and she started to scream(IM NEVER GONNA COLOR YOUR HAIR AGAIN)I dont know who trained her,but my job is to make the client HAPPY?She was using some kind of generic color,the box the color of grocery bags.Well I tried again to get in anywhere else,and again it was NO.One guy made me mushroom,I called her back.Look,Ill buy the Goldwell and dev.you can apply it,BUT no cutting for atleast 5 months.Well the color was better,but it started breaking off?And she took a hank of my hair,and began to cut!PLEASE dont go there.The color is cheap,she doesnt listen,and I doubt that she has been taking classes(Like my other 2) The hair breakage should have told the story.Im not using names. The first time Maggie styled my hair was three years ago after someone gave my curly hair what I call a poodle cut...short curly fizzy hair in a bubble. Well Maggie fixed it giving me a really well styled cut with no more fizz. I received so many compliments. I've gone to her ever since only go to someone else one who was a "curly hair specialist". She didn't even come close to one of Maggie's cuts. Today after going six months without a cut and my hair looking thin and limp now it has a style and looks great! Maggie is a great stylist and is also wonderful with color. Her salon is close to downtown and parking is easy and free. Contrary to other salons in town, she listens carefully to what style you are looking for and you walk out with exactly what you wanted. She is also very careful when mixing colors so you come out of her salon with exactly the color you were hoping for. read more

I live in Santa Fe and after extensive online searching and comparing, I chose Sanctuary for the first professional haircut I'd had in 5 1/2 years. Maggie was wonderful! I had only a very vague idea of what I wanted but Maggie intuitively knew what would be right for me. I'm so lucky to live near downtown and have Sanctuary so nearby! So, my regular stylist, who I think is bad ass, disappeared on me today. I got lucky and called Sanctuary Salon and got an appt TODAY with Geoffry. I typically get my hair cut (men's cut), colored, and my beard colored to match my hair. I'm thinning and my regular gal has a trick to make it all but disappear. So, I was scared at first because my regular lady and I got this figured out. I walked in, Geoffry sat me down, checked me over, and gave me a recommendation. after some excellent back and forth. I took his conclusion with trepidation (cuz I'm scared like that). BUT....when he was done, I realized he was a Master at his craft! I absolutely trust Geoffry with my image now. And seriously, stylist trust is a major thing if you want to look your optimum image! My girl took 10 years off me when I walked out to go home. Geoffry took off 15, and at substantially better price. Geo is my man now. I trust him so much that I think next time, I'm going to let him have his way with an auburn that matches my skin tones (I luv me some ginger!). This man is going to keep me looking sharp, Oh, and ladies, if you like to have a tall handsome man playing with your hair AND making you beautiful (guys too! ;) ), Geo can do that! read more
