A+ Some things you should know about me to better grasp this review is that I have curly hair. I have curly hair AND I have been around the block a couple of times trying to find a place that: A) can cut curly hair B) has both professional and friendly staff (that also don't both talk too much and not at all) C) generally produces quality cuts, color and style AND uses awesome product (AND tells you about it while using them) And D) has great consultations and educates you with tips and info about hair. So, clearly all these things stood out to me in the best way possible. I only wish that I discovered this salon sooner and thus didn't waste my time with anywhere else. I recommend this salon with an A+. They have apparently changed locations a couple times, and as of now I wouldn't really consider it in the railyard (but perhaps the railyard district stretches this far). Above all, these stylists listen and consider and give input which is what I'm always looking for. Looking around I watched as other stylists worked on clients and other clients finished up looking great! NOTES: -They (of course) have a tea/coffee/ cucumber water bar -The desk receptionists are great. After relocating to Santa Fe almost a year ago I decided it was finally necessary to find a salon and a new hairstylist which always fills me with anxiety. I saw the reviews for Salon Del Mar and made an appointment with Dale. It was such a great experience! I went from a long, VERY grown out bob to a curly wolf cut and my hair looks exactly like what I didn't even know I wanted!! So much volume and texture! Not all stylists are so confident and skilled with curly hair, so I was extremely pleasantly surprised. Sent an email asking for services & it's been over 2 weeks no response. After further digging comes to find out that the staff here have been rude "Snooty" and entitled. So I would say don't bother with these folks seem they focus only on "the rich white folk" SF is crawling with tourists & million dollar home owners. Pass on this place. Glad I did. The co-owner Kevin told me that Yelp reviews are crap ... "we don't look at them or take them seriously. We rarely read them." So there you have it. If you can get in for a consult, go see for yourself. My biggest problem beyond the fact they could never get the color right, is the scheduling. If your stylist cancels for personal reasons, guess what you are back in the Q. YOU ARE NOT ACCOMMODATED. If you want to get in on a Saturday, not happening. They change the appointment time all the time so they can accommodate "another client." But if you want to change your appointment, no way. Very salon $$$ not client centric. My opinion is they are a "let's create hair helmets" - standard color poured on - nothing creative - nothing painted or touched in an expressive way, and the cuts are creating many helmets in Santa Fe. No creativity and ability to go with what the client wants or envisions. All salons except Salon Del Mar put base color on first, let it color then wash it off before putting highlights on. These guys do both at the same time obviously to cut down on time and squeeze in other clients. It's about $$$ not excellence. Nice space ... excellent products ... which covers up the mediocrity. What you really want is competent colorists and stylists. I have worked with some of the best colorists and stylists ... and they are accommodating and creative. They will stay beyond 5 pm to help a client achieve their hair excellence. NO one at Salon del Mar works with clients beyond a 3 pm appointment. I have worked with Enzo from Los Angeles ... who is the long time stylist for Charlize Theron, Renee Russo, Connie Britton and many many models. He is one of the best in the world and is accommodating and wants the client to be happy. HE works based on the clients schedule. Not something Salon del Mar does. read more

It might be true that the salon is one of the best options in this town, but I'm not pleased at all with the results. Color is good. Haircut is a total mess. Not only I ended up with what I said I did not want and it's now too short to fix and get what I wanted in the first place - but additionally to that, the quality of the work itself is making it so that I'm not comfortable wearing my hair down until I find a way to fix it (aka close to zero work on the ends or attempt to blend in + visible gaps in length in weird places, just really poor finish). No attention to details or no desire to give it your best. It's just not good work. The biggest bummer is that it could have been a more tolerable if my stylist had cared to pay attention and listen. I'm not expecting everyone to be awesome with a pair of scissor, but at the very least, pay attention and listen. Miscommunications happen but it's honestly hard to understand how that one happened. read more

Well...I didn't want to write a review but honestly, I had the worst haircut of my life here :( We are in town for the summer and I was desperately needing a trim as I couldn't make my appt back home. The stylist was so nice and gracious but I don't know what happened. He just cut the front of my hair way too much, it's not a fixable thing. I also want to note that the haircut was really quick but not in the good way. I'm sad to leave this review but do want to warn people bc I now have to spent months (and a lot of money on vitamins etc) if not years to wait for my hair to grow out. read more

I have had Vanessa doing my hair for several years. She takes into consideration my personal style and gives me cut and color that reflect that. She works outside of the box, which I really appreciate. Great color, great cuts ! She's very creative and sees things that would look good on me that I'd never think of. My COVID hair was out of control. I literally had an un-ruly man bun which needed to go. So with hesitation... I ventured out to find a salon to finally get my hair cut. I chose Salon Del mar in Santa Fe. Very impressed!! The staff was super sweet and very welcoming. But I was VERY impressed with their COVID protocol. They were constantly cleaning, no contact whatsoever. Plenty of space between stations. I felt very safe there. I had an appointment with Diedra Quiet little thing she was... but SO sweet.... and she gave me a wonderful head massage during the shampoo... and she worked with me on suggestions with what to do with my messy mop of hair. Got home... took a shower, and then styled my hair. She did a fantastic job!! It's always tough to tell when you are sitting in the salon chair if the cut is going in the right direction. You never really know until you style it yourself. Diedra did an amazing job, and I would recommend her to any guy (maybe women too!!) Great salon. Great space. Great staff. I've lived in Santa Fe for a year now and this salon is the best place I've found. I got my hair cut by Ashley ($50) and I really love the cut she gave me! She listened to what I wanted and took the time to give me a great cut. I like the salon because it's airy, sunny and comfortable. I didn't wait long for my appointment and I told Ashley that I had time restrictions -- luckily I was in and out in less than 1 hour. I appreciated the fact that she told me she didn't want to rush, especially since this was her first time cutting my hair. The only down side is that they try to sell products to you but I know it's part of their job. She really takes the time to look at my hair to determine the exact right approach to take. I have been having my hair cut by the same person for 10 years. I called to make an appointment at the end of June. Was told they wouldn't have an appointment available til the end of July. Excuse me? The receptionist, who was lovely by the way, told me that was 'normal' for their salon. Coming from high end salons in NYC and LA this is unheard of, but okkkkayyyy. I wasn't in need till the end of July, so fine this time. Well, here we are, appointment week. Never received a text/email/call to confirm appointment, so I called myself to confirm and left a vmail. I get a vmail back from the receptionist (not the one I booked with) saying that there is no appointment scheduled for me. I phoned back, spoke with that receptionist, went over the details of when I made the appointment, etc. She let me know she did see I was in the system, but no appointment scheduled. I ask to have the owner or manager call me. A bit later, another vmail from who I am told is the manager, Kevin. In a lovely voice, he says, "this has never happened", and if I did "actually make an appointment"... (This is how management speaks with a prospective new client, insinuating the client is lying?) I phone back, speak with this man, expressing my exasperation. He continually interrupts me. I state the obvious- why would they show that on June 20th, I phoned and my info is in the system, if I wasn't making an appointment? And I point out not the best service to suggest that a client may be fibbing regarding making an appointment. Bad attitude. He replies that I AM THE ONE with a bad attitude. Okey dokey. I notified him I would be writing this, before I hung up. If I was the owner, I know I would want to clean this mess up, asap. But guess what? Apprised the one stating he is the manager, is an owner. Too pricey for what you get, IMO. Called to schedule an appointment, and got one that very same day - but the receptionist never gave me a price. My bad for not asking....lesson learned! My hair is long and straight and the cuts I need are simple - just a trim! A mere trim! Twenty minutes later, I got sticker shock - $90 for a trim, and that didn't include tip. I have only been going to Salon del Mar for a few months as my stylist, Katrina, moved there from Wild Hare. I had no particular opinion about Salon del Mar, but found it odd that being in the Baca district and not Downtown, it cost more for a haircut, surpassing $80!!! That's pushing it, even for Santa Fe! However, the worst experience I had was today with the British gentleman, Kevin, I believe his name is. I ended up being 40 minutes late due to an auto accident and couldn't get through to them on my phone, so when I arrived, I knew I would likely have to reschedule. When this man came to the desk and engaged me, his attitude was rude and extremely condescending. When I told him I'd rather reschedule by phone and end this rude interaction, he followed me out into the parking lot, demanding we talk about it. I initially refused. He insisted, so I told him he was being incredibly rude and he came back at me not accepting responsibility for his tone towards me as the client, but rather calling ME rude. When I got into my car and closed the door, he was still trying to argue with me and didn't stop as I began to pull out of the parking lot. This was downright harassment!!! I have never been treated this way, even in high end salons in Los Angeles!!! The sad part is I was willing to pay for my stylist's time, as I felt bad for missing my appointment. I'm sorry Katrina is losing me as a client due to something completely out of her control. However, now I will never set foot in this salon again, and will absolutely advise my friends to try other salons, such as Wild Hare where clients are actually treated with RESPECT. read more
