"Baby Cake" - like a zebra cake BUT even BETTER than the ones you grew up eating!!!!!!
Katie B.

If I could eat here daily I would... "Sanctuary" is a spot-on name for this incredible eatery! Tucked away in a cozy spot on Shab Row, you'll find just about every one of your gluten-free heart's desires. Savory and sweet comfort foods; order and eat there, or grab frozen/refrigerated goodies ready to be cooked and enjoyed at home! There is limited OUTDOOR seating only, but that wouldn't stop me from ordering lunch and eating in my car on a cold, winter day! The variety here is so impressive! They cater to many dietary restrictions, with vegan and meat options, as well as treats with and without dairy. I order a bunch of stuff to try. What I've had so far has knocked my socks off! - Apple cider donuts COVERED in cinnamon sugar - the best GF donut I've EVER had!! A fluffy, flavorful dream (not dense at all!) I ordered three and inhaled 2 the moment I got them. The third one held up beautifully until I ate it for dessert the same night. - Baby Cake - described by the cashier as similar to a zebra cake. That definitely sold me, but I would argue. is much better than any zebra cake I've ever had! This delight is a must try!! - Blueberry muffin - seriously, it was the best GF muffin I've ever had. Huge, flavorful, tons of delicious blueberries. It was big enough for two sittings (for me). I will absolutely be getting more of these! - Mac & cheese with crispy chicken - my wife ordered this for lunch and we shared. She agreed to get the dairy free mac & cheese so I could partake (but they have dairy Mac & Cheese too). It was absolutely delicious; the smell and the flavor of the chicken was reminiscent of your favorite fried chicken place. It was flavorful, tender, and a decent portion. I also purchased (but have yet tried) frozen chicken empanadas, eight (I think) ready to bake cinnamon rolls and dairy-free icing (at extra cost). I can't wait to try both of these! Everything that I purchased came to about $86. Yes, certified gluten-free food establishments are not cheap - they literally can't be... but for me, (and my father, who has celiac disease), it is worth every penny to be able to enjoy delectable food out that is both safe and so very satisfying! My only suggestion? Open up a location in Howard county!!!!

My parents surprised me with a custom-made, gluten-free red velvet cake from this wonderful certified gluten-free bakery. It was delicious and gorgeous! I've loved Sanctuary for years because of their wonderful lunches, but this just takes it to a whole new level.

Cooked pot pie

Holy Hannah. This place is amazing! I heard about it from an assistant at my chiropractor's office and after the good things she said, I had to try it. I purchased a frosted sugar cookie, DF pot pie (large) and cinnamon rolls. The sugar cookie was good, a sugar cookie, not much to say. The cinnamon roll and the pot pie though, omg SO GOOD. The pot pie was so full (it weighed 4lbs) and had so much flavor. The crust was delightful. The chicken and potatoes were in big chunks. The peas weren't mushy. I highly, highly recommend trying any of their food.

Excellent gluten-free food. My rasers wouldn't let me have anything but one has celiac's

Bakehouse is hands down one of the best bakeries in Frederick. Everything is incredibly fresh,…read morebeautifully made, and absolutely delicious. You can really taste the quality in their breads and pastries -- flaky, buttery croissants, perfectly balanced sweets, and savory options that are just as impressive. Nothing feels mass-produced; it all tastes thoughtfully crafted and homemade. They open early and close once they sell out, which says a lot about how popular they are. If you want the best selection, definitely plan to arrive right when they open. Be prepared for a long line -- but don't let that discourage you. The line moves fairly quickly, and the quality is 100% worth the wait. The staff is friendly and efficient, even during busy times. Overall, an amazing local bakery that lives up to the hype. I'll definitely be coming back again and again!

(sometimes if out of stock they'll close a bit early) I always love their everything bagel croissant, their sweet pastries are so good too they're so decadent and delish. I miss the spinach and artichoke croissant!! That was a special once and it was so so good. They'll have to bring it back sometime!! Line wraps around the creek so highly recommend getting there early if you're going on a weekend, or swing by on a weekday and grab your favorite treat. Will definitely be back!

WOW. This is a fun…read moreand unique bakery! First off, they have both savory and Sweet! Their counter has an array of individually wrapped breads and a enclosed casing that you self select some baked goods and desserts. The decor in here was awesome. Tons of decorations that scream trendy. The staff was nice, they explained the process well. This is probably the only flaw of this place. There aren't many directions on the self service bar if you are getting items to go. You still get a tray, load it up, and the counter packages it up to go. I got Pokémon decorated macaron, chocolate bear macaron and a oreo panda macaron. The taste and decor were amazing on these. My star of the show was the Chocolate dipped Croissant with chocolate filling. Absolutely fantastic. The soboro was good, mango was definitely better than the strawberry. I want to be kind, since there appeared to be many patrons enjoying their pastries and drinks…read more However, I likely will not be back. The products don't align with my palette for patisserie. In fact, I could go so far to say that establishments like this contribute to the global rise of diabetes. Case in point. They had what looked to be savory wedges of French rolls, toasted with butter and garlic. It wasn't until I was serving dinner to my wife and guests that we discovered there was a crust of sugar coating the entire item. Who does that to garlic bread??? I wish the business well, but there are many more local bakeries that better match my product preferences.
