Amazingly friendly staff, smiles and very good introduction given to me about what features and such. Lucky San Pablo has a huge community room, and plenty of light and space for a library. I was encouraged to continue improving my literary Spanish ( stopped after upper div college classes). Large section of Spanish books. Kids room is my favorite part of the library. Check out machines:3 Parking...plentiful. For now, can only enter on SP-- but they're currently working on a way from Market/Church. love...

This library seems more of a kid friendly library to me. There is definitely more of a children's' and young teen selections then adult books; however you are definitely bound to find something to enjoy. Staff: very friendly and helpful, I had some late fees and paid in full at librarian gave me a small discount of my fees for paying it all in full, Thanks! What I like best of this library is the children's area; they have lots of books to choose from and also have a play structure for the smaller ones to enjoy. Overall this library is bright, friendly and always full of young kids on computers. It is also conveniently located next door to a Yogurt place as well as Chinese to go, so why not make it a fun evening out with the kids. Baby G Approved!

Yesterday we went to the new San Pablo Library. It is 3 times the size of the original Library. It is located on San Pablo Avenue near Church Lane. All I can say is wow! It is quite spectacular. As soon as you walk in you can see the expanse of the space. The first thing you will see is the friends of the library book sale. There are several shelves of books, CDs, DVDs available at very reasonable prices. I found a Children's Songbook with a CD and several other books two DVDs for a total price of $5. What I noticed right away was that there are several comfy chairs and stuffed benches for patrons to sit at. There are also several tables for patrons to use. There are public computers, computer catalogs as well as checkout computers available. I also saw there was a print station next to the copier My favorite aspect was all the windows that made the library sunny and welcoming There is a community room that is accessible when the library is closed as well as several smaller rooms that are glass-encased for study or are clean and spacious. The staff is friendly and helpful what more can you ask for? The only temporary downside is the heavy duty Street Construction going on it. It is a little difficult to find your way into the parking lot. The new San Pablo Library is awesome!

Newly built San Pablo Library is wonderful to the city of San Pablo. It's big, modern, and nice. Every Monday, I always try to take the little one to come here for the story time. She loves it. Staffs are super nice whenever I ask for help.

I used to go to the old library so this library is big for me. I love how well organized it is. Studying made easy. One thing I don't like though is its not quiet. Lot of people talk so loud. I wish there was a room where you could study in silence. But over all I love it.

If you stay informed and updated re: current facts in Richmond, you should know that the current leadership in city government, (along with many others in the community), has done a great job of dramatically lowering crime and violence in Richmond over the past 8 years that the current Mayor McLaughlin has been in office.  In 1989, in this city of about 100,000 people, there were 61 homicides.  It came down for a while around the turn of the century, but by 2006 it was back up to almost 50 homicides.  Over recent years it has declined all the way down to 16 in 2013*.  Of course that is 16 too many, but a big improvement over 50 or 60.   The problems in a city with as much poverty and historical problems as Richmond won't turn into paradise overnight.  But it is good to get the facts straight before blaming the current "leadership in city government" who has, in fact, made great strides in reducing violent crime. *(statistics source: Contra Costa Times) PS: I wrote quite a while ago (a few years?) but apparently forgot to post it, and just noticed today that it was not posted, so the content is a bit dated.

I was recently here for poll worker training in the City of Richmond. The training session was in the city council's chambers at 440 Civic Center Plaza. I snapped a few pictures of the empty room. It was interesting to be in an empty council chamber for poll worker training It was quite interesting to come here as it has been quite some time I have been here in the City of Richmond. I used to go to the library nearby when I was a sprog with The Family. The Parental Unit was very much into books, book shoppes, and libraries. Across the street kitty corner to the library and directly across the way from the city council building is the Richmond Memorial Auditorium and Convention Center. I attended some high school commencement exercises here. The Sibling walked the graduation altar here. On two separate occasions, a couple of friends (from our elementary school days) walked the graduation altar before and after The Sibling here as well. I would welcome an opportunity to come back at the city building, the auditorium, and the library. There are other places in Richmond here. One of the superior court offices are here in Richmond. I have come here a few times for jury duty. Fortunately, I was excused (touch wood) from serving. There is a shopping center that recently opened in the area. There is a Target Superstore here sharing space with Panda Express and a GameStop. I hope to pay a visit to this shopping centre in the future with friends. SYOY! Ciao!

The only reason I'd come to San Pablo is for the Casino - and its a terrible one - probably one of the worst in the bay area. I know way back when they had table games and there was a "bank" and they would charge $1 for every hand. If you had a low bet and liked to sit for hours that was a disaster. Been across the street to the Nations. The city seems ok there next to the highway but it is not affluent at all. Seems like the casino just takes money away from parents with kids and many mouths to feed. And the casino is too close to all the blue collar families. Not sure why the city of San Pablo chose this location for a casino. If you are looking for gaming action I think Cache Creek is probably a better bet. Star Casino at their new Tracy location also ok for low bets.
