Girl Scouts had an amazing time at the ice rink. The girls had an absolute blast !!! They loved the delicious hot cocoa too !!! Thank you sooooo much - we look forward to seeing you again next year.

Skating rink before the session started.

My kids had a really good time, but if you get the wrong type of skates then it can be really uncomfortable to skate. 100%, Reserve a skate buddy in advance if you don't know how to skate. Also, there was one employee who was really making the experience unpleasant for a lot of the attendees. He had a really rude attitude and wasn't very helpful. Luckily, all of the other employees were very accommodating and nice. There at least 3 different types of rental skates. The worst ones by far were the all plastic ones. They were easy to get on, but had no arch support in them whatsoever. I tried to return them for a different pair of skates and that one rude employee wouldn't even go check and said there are no other skates. Eventually, the rude employee rotated to the concession stand, so I went back to the rental booth and asked the kid who was working back there for a different pair of skates and he went back there, no problem and found them for me. He totally saved the day for me. The rude employee was also rude at the concession stand. Besides rushing people to order when there wasn't really any line. If there was an item that had run out, he would say "nope...all out". There was no way to tell what was actually available and he wouldn't say what was available and what wasn't. Then you were trying to make comments about customers under his breath to other employees, but it seemed as if the other employees didn't think he was very funny. It was a little sad to watch. When you're skating on the ice you do feel grooves that have been cut into the ice by previous skaters, so it won't be completely smooth. There are lockers and cubbies for your shoes and personal items. If you get there right when it starts for your session, you can use the locker. If you bring your own lock, that would be best as I didn't see anywhere to get one. Overall it's a fun experience if you bring kids or go with friends. Make sure to ask for different skates if yours aren't comfortable and you will have a good time.

Right after I booked a last minute spot for 5, I checked the reviews. Immediately set the expectations low as there were poor reviews about the skates, the ice and the staff. We booked their first spot at 5. They didn't start checking people in until 4:50, that's fine. Super nice at check-in. Went right to the skate rental since some reviews said the line took forever. Had to swap 4 times between the five of us. The rental skates weren't high end but what do you expect.... They worked. Ice was fresh from the Zamboni, didn't notice any issues other than some of the perimeter edge only. Definitely saw enough staff on the ice checking on anyone who fell. For the value it was fantastic, $22 for 2 hours on ice, good hot chocolate too. I would think later evenings might be busier or more beat up ice but our trip was great!

Ohh I'm excited

This place is great!!! Omg love love love all of it! Very easy to check in and get your ticket for your skates Staff is very nice and welcoming Ice rink is very clean Skates were great! I had a lot of fun Over all 5 stars can't wait to come back

I felt it was a bit sloppy with requesting the skates as well as getting the skate buddy. It was overly crowded and they should really just cap the times by age groups? It would of been more enjoyable. $33/skate buddy with skate rental including a surcharge on reserving it online.

Too much water in ice. And the staff who are supposed to be removing it are not efficient.

The shoes is so wobbling. I exchanged for 3 times and it still not worked. After 2 hours ice skating, my feet are so hurt. Won't go again.

However, because it's the only rink around for miles, it's booked up with lessons, freestyle skate time, hockey games and private events. Public skate times are rare and usually during working hours. For those on hockey teams, the schedule can be all over the place because ice time is at a premium. The price for public skate is also the most expensive one in the Bay Area if you have your own skates. As of 2024, its $20. For reference, Yerba Buena in SF is $14 for GA and Sharks Ice in Fremont and San Jose are $16, Snoopy's Home Ice in Santa Rosa is $8-$14 depending on the day of week, and Oakland Ice is $16 with an additional 10% off for Oakland residents. In addition, the other rinks have passes for frequent skaters that drops the price more. Now if you factor in the cost of skate rentals, then San Mateo is in line with most places but Ice Oasis doesn't give a price break for not renting skates. That being said, because I live in San Mateo, this is my best option for now and I don't want them to close. I just wish their economics and schedule could more closely mimic the other rinks.

No food stands besides vending machines. Metal lockers available to store your purse but locks Don't work and lose coins trying to get key out. BUT ICE RINk was perfect & that's what we came for. We went on a weekday since was spring break at 230pm and was not busy. A handful of ice skating trainers and their students were already on the rink. They have posted ice skating times. We bought tickets at the front desk. $20 each person which includes skates.

Skate Escape is located inside the mall, right next to a small video game arcade. I was informed by…read morestaff that a "skating with love" community event was happening. There was no charge to skate, though the skating pass price of $12 posted online is not bad, especially without the $3 skate rental cost (since I have my own rollerblades). This place is quite simple. A small shoe cubbies storage unit against the wall, a few seats and tables outside the rink, a restroom in the back, socks and snacks (water, chips, gatorade) sold behind the counter, and friendly staff making everyone feel welcome. The rink had a smooth and sturdy surface, creating an ideal skating experience. It was surrounded by plexiglass, able to withstand the barrage of kids crashing into the walls. Tiny disco balls hung from the ceiling, along with colorful decorative string lights. Mainly hip hop and rnb music played through the speakers, a song list including Isn't She Lovely by Stevie Wonder, I Want To Be Your Man by Zapp, and Don't Stop Til You Get Enough by the king of pop. The skating rink was small but never felt crowded. There was plenty of space to glide freely, and it was easy to dodge the kids. Even the skate aids didn't take up a lot of space or get in the way. It was a pleasant experience, a carefree atmosphere with everyone just having a good time. Skate Escape was a great option for a rainy day activity to enjoy while in the area.

This is easily one of the most interesting places in SF, hands down. We had a chance to pay our respects by way of celebrating my best friend's birthday here. What a find...! We purchased tickets on Eventbrite a few weeks in advance. Our session was 4:30-6:00 pm. Onsite, we rented skates for $5. No half sizes, but my 8.5 feet fit in a 9 just fine. Decked out with disco lights, the church glows vibrantly against the backdrop of its stained glass windows. Music of all eras reverberates through the high ceilings, a welcome greeting to all. I didn't realize that we were graced with the presence of the Godfather of Skate, D. himself! I should have done my research earlier. He casually swung by, in full purple regalia, and gave my struggling newbie self some tips. Within 10 mins, I was skating without shaking at all??? I never got to properly thank him...! I'll be sure to next time. NOTE: Bring cash to rent skates!
