The family decided to try something new for dinner rather than visit our regular spots and we are so glad we did. We had a very reasonable wait time for a Saturday evening. The menu has something for everyone to enjoy. The wait staff was very attentive and I don't think my drink ever got below half empty before I was getting a refill. The food took a little bit longer than I am used to in a Mexican restaurant, but it was worth the wait. Everything was very fresh and well prepared. First off let me start off by saying the atmosphere walking in was amazing, as was the smell coming out at me as soon as I opened the door. However what is keeping me from giving 5 stars was one thing. After my check was brought to me, my waiter took it and ran my card. Brought it back and at this point I'd been waiting on a box for leftovers for 10 minutes. Surprisingly tasty with great prices. Considering you're in Smithfield and this place is located in a tourist trap (between hotels and an outlet mall) you don't expect much but this place will shock you. We had the lunch Fajitas (chick and shrimp), the Pollo Yucatan, and Chrros and the bill was about $25 and we were full. Not enough for leftovers because we ordered off the lunch menu but the portion size was appropriate. The chicken and shrimp in both dishes were well seasoned and cooked appropriately and came out piping hot! The lunch menu is extensive and affordable - most items are under $10 and there were plenty of people in there on a Sunday, which should have been a sign. San Marcos has raised the bar when it comes to Mexican food! Since trying it shortly after they opened, it has become one of my family's favorite places to eat out. We enjoy the wide variety of their authentic menu, and I have tried something new on every visit (it's all been delicious). The restaurant is very clean, and the service is exceptional! San Marcos is consistently above average for Smithfield. This is mine and my coworkers go to lunch spot usually. They have great lunch specials and prices. If you get the chance to stop I highly recommend the chicken tortilla soup- it's absolutely fantastic. The service is always fast, but at times servers seem overwhelmed. Free chips and salsa upon arrival which is always a plus. Again, for Smithfield, this place is good. read more
