Most of them were large practices and had Yelp reviews in the 2- and 3-star range. San Marcos Modern Dentistry was one of about two or three that had 4-star reviews. When I called to make an appointment, the receptionist explained the insurance procedure very clearly, letting me know what I needed to do next. She answered all my questions with patience and friendliness. My first appointment was really positive. Everyone on the staff from the ladies at the front counter to the hygienists to Dr. Aldaz were very caring, friendly, and professional. Everything was completely explained to me - what my X-rays and scan revealed, the treatment proposed, the cost, etc. I ended up having three temporary crowns placed by Dr. Aldaz at that appointment which was late on a Monday afternoon. She placed the permanent crowns at an early morning appointment on Wednesday less than 48 hours later. I have never had such quick turnarounds on crowns. These are fabricated in house, so they are much quicker than being sent to a lab. In addition to all the positive features of this practice, what impressed me greatly was the CBTC scanner. It revealed a deep cavity almost reaching to the bone that I had no idea that I had. If I had not had it taken care of at this visit, I probably would have had to have had a root canal which I certainly do not ever want. This cavity was a shock because I had just had bite wing X-rays taken and an exam by the new dentist who had taken over the practice of my retired dentist. She told me that everything was fine at that time. In my opinion, it is important to choose a dentist that performs the CBTC scans as they apparently reveal much more than the customary digital X-rays. My former dentist did not have such a scanner. They also have a periodontist on staff so if further procedures are necessary, they can be done in house. At this point, I feel that Dr. Aldaz is the best dentist for me that I could ever find. My feeling was that every person on the staff was truly committed to giving each patient the very best care possible. This is a business that serves everyone who walks through the door and who calls on the phone. It is very unusual to find this nowadays. Everyone there made me feel as if I were their most important patient. I believe you will be highly satisfied if you check them out. If you are looking for an excellent dental practice that truly wants the best for you, give them a call!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS…read more The dentists here are not prepared prior to your visit. I spent the first 30 minutes waiting for them to find my chart then argue over what procedures need to be done. After their bickering subsided, they began drilling into my teeth without proper numbing, had to revisit numbing sites FIVE TIMES which ended up getting infected after the visit. Once they began working on one tooth, they'd leave for multiple minutes at a time for some reason, only to come back and start working on another tooth before finishing the one they'd left. They did not properly clean out the cavity, and claimed they were using an "acid etch" that completely destroyed the enamel of my teeth, in order for the filling to adhere better. Sure, Whatever, although the fillings are literally cracking out of my mouth as i chew food. They also refused to polish teeth or remineralize the enamel that they altered with the "acid etch" stating it would remineralize over the course of three days. this was a lie, it did not remineralize, my teeth still feel like sand paper, the fillings are cracking out of my teeth due to poor curing and I'm in pain a month after my visit, although i entered the office with no pain to speak of. Terrible dentist, terrible husbandry, terrible service. Stay away unless you have NO OTHER OPTION.

I've never had that, and they're very supportive of making sure the care I'm given is something I really need. I've recommended them non-stop to my friends and realized it was time I do a review too! I had Invisalign with another orthodontist in 2020 and have had some issues post (teeth hitting, etc.) Dr. Sammy has been extremely invested in helping me fix my bite and checking in on what might be causing me issues, even though he wasn't my orthodontist. Two: a receptionist picked up the call alongside an overlap to the voicemail message recording so I hung up because I couldn't hear the live person over the voice recording. Three: some older sounding receptionist answers the call with "hello" & I ask "Is this the family dental of SM?" To which she responds with a bad attitude stating that she keeps answering my call and I do not answer her. After reading some reviews on yelp about a terrible receptionist, I think I met her. Congrats family dental for losing a client due to an ill mannered receptionist. Note to the receptionist, if you hate your job that much, you should find another one because you're terrible in customer service. As a patient, we deal with receptionists quite a lot since they are the face of the company. Saving myself the headache of dealing with this one. A dentistry could have the best drs, best techs but a horrible receptionist can quickly ruin all the hard work behind the scenes due to their rudeness.
