We were searching for something close to our hotel and this looked interesting. The beef that comes…read moreout on a hot stone was all it took for me to want to go. We split a salad that was big enough for a meal, my wife had the bolognese, and I had the steak. It was super rare, but as I cut into it, I would lay it onto the stone to allow it to cook a bit more. I like it on the lean side of medium rare and my wife prefers a bit more. This was perfect for us to both enjoy it the way we like. Her pasta was excellent as well and we enjoyed sharing the meal. A bottle of wine topped off a great dinner. The weather was rainy so we opted to sit inside and it was warm and welcoming. Our waiter was helpful with our choices and we enjoyed his observations. The only thing I can say that was off, was the older woman who was paying her bill before me was pressured into leaving a tip ( service charge, is what he said). I was prepared for that but was not asked to tip. Great meal, we enjoyed it immensely, but the service charge that was scammed out of the 70+ year old lady in front of me kind of left a sour taste in my mouth. I was going to tip a few euros because we enjoyed ourselves so much, but decided not to because of the way it was presented to the party before us.

As others have said, this is no longer the name of the restaurant- it is now Il Panzerotto. That…read moresaid, I disagree about the food quality. We had a calzone and traditional spaghetti and both were delicious. I don't even know how to describe the calzone. It was unlike anything I've had before but SO good. I literally cleaned my plate with the last of the breading from it. The owner/chef was Luca. He was upset with the host because he had burned the plastic on the outdoor tent as he had placed a heater too close to it. To be honest, he seemed like a bit of a jerk, but his food was freaking delicious.

And I've been taking heat for my opinion about authentic Italian food but I don't care. My palate is my palate. Italian pasta is bland and not rich enough - to me. So when we found Bao Bao, I was excited. Finally some sriracha and chili oil. We got ramen and dumpling soup and soup dumplings and pork dumplings and har gao. And to be completely honest, the food was average to the standards set forth by the Chinese here in the states. But boy was it tasty to us. We came again a few nights later. The service here is fantastic. They're super nice and they even squeezed us in before a reservation that had called dibs on the table we sat at. The dining area is quaint but pretty modern. Dinner starts at 1900 hours and they accept reservations like I stated earlier. So when you get tired of the pasta, stop by and give your tummy some decent flavor.

We found ourselves intensely craving Chinese comfort food and discovered Bao Bao Dumpling in Rome--and it proved to be a highly decent and satisfying detour. Bao Bao shines brightest when it comes to its signature dumplings. The Xiao Long Bao (XLB) is very decent, providing that savory broth and satisfying wrapper texture you look for. A great feature of the restaurant is the visible preparation area; you can actually watch someone hand-making the dumplings fresh in the front window, which speaks volumes about their commitment to quality. Beyond the XLB, the Fried Bao is also a delicious and worthwhile order. It offers an excellent contrast in texture and flavor to the steamed varieties. While the dumplings were excellent, the experience was slightly less remarkable in other areas. I was craving a hot bowl of noodle soup, but I wouldn't rate their noodle soup as the best. It's serviceable, but perhaps not their specialty. If you are in Rome and need a break from traditional Italian fare, Bao Bao Dumpling is a solid, reliable choice. It serves genuinely decent Chinese food, especially the fresh dumplings, making it a highly recommended spot when that dumpling craving hits!
