Excellent course. Thoughtful, focused on safety, thorough repetition before moving on. Bikes are 125s which are safe for beginners and in good condition. I think daily of the simple rules I learned. Right hand flat, head up, look and think ahead, look into the curve, brake gently but firmly, expect not to be seen by others, use counter steering, start and stop with steering straight. I was 61 when I took it last fall, got my first 2000 miles now on my new 300 bike. The skills and attitude I learned have kept me safe so far. read more

I recently completed the B1, B2, and B3 course instructed by Anne at San Diego Motorcycle Training. It's absolutely apparent that she's passionate about teaching people who are interested in learning to ride a motorcycle how to ride and how to do so safely! The class is great because it's taught with no more than 5 students per session which allows for some good 1-on-1 instruction throughout the drills. She's extremely patient and you can tell she has YEARS of experience riding on two wheels. Hopefully you decide to take the all three of the introductory courses if you're serious about learning how to ride. If you do decide to take B1-B3, you'll get to go through each of the classes with some people from the group you started with during the B1 course. I very much enjoyed the entire experience and would highly recommend taking these classes with Anne. I'm picking up my first bike this Friday and I plan on running through all the drills that she taught me in the empty parking lot near my home! read more

I had zero experience operating motorcycles. I had two lessons on Sunday and in the end I was relatively comfortable on the motorcycle. Instructor is amazing!!! She provided all necessary theoretical and practical knowledge. She supported and advised thru the practice. I'm looking forward next Sunday to finished my third lesson. This is the worst course. There is no classroom. You sit outside in a group reading from a printed out packet most of the time. When you do get on a motorcycle it is on old motorcycles that are falling apart in parking lots that are too small to do any real maneuvers. The second parking lot for the B2 and B3 courses is also very run down with uneven surfaces and potholes everywhere. The instructor Anne also teaches unsafe practices. She tells the students it's more important to be comfortable when riding and that safety equipment does not really protect you. She said that helmets only protect the skull and not the brain. Implying they are not important and the only reason you need to wear something on your head is because it's required by law. She had the students wear gardening and mechanic gloves rather than motorcycle gloves and tennis shoes rather than boots. I refused and kept my motorcycle gloves and Harley Davidson boots on. She claims the gardening and mechanic gloves help you feel the clutch and throttle better and the tennis shoes help you feel the gears better. I think she was more worried about her cheap motorcycles breaking than about the safety of her students. A lot of the stuff she said during the course was very dangerous. I fear she is going to get someone killed. This course is also not an CMSP Motorcyclist Training Course (MTC). You will not earn a certificate for passing this course that you can take to the DMV to bypass the motorcycle driving test. In fact, there is no pass or fail for this course. Basically, this course is a waste of time and money and is potentially very dangerous. Do yourself a favor and take a legitimate certified CMSP Motorcyclist Training Course (MTC). read more

The class my son and I took was the B1 course for first time riders. (There are a total 3 courses that are taken progressively) The class was well organized covering everything from safety to what to wear while riding. I really appreciated the safety aspect of the class since I had my 13 year old along and he is interested in riding a dirt bike. Anne is a great instructor! She is very patient and will answer every question that comes up. There is some reading of specific topics to familiarize yourself with the concept of riding and it went very smoothly with everyone participating. We particularly liked the size of the class (4 to 5 people) as we felt like we were very well prepared for our first ride. It was the perfect progression for us and we had a great time. We are now one step closer to really being able to get out and ride for fun and safety. I would definitely recommend for first time riders who want the balance of riding and understanding of the safety aspects of cycling. read more

I took Anne's three beginner classes as an absolute newbie and couldn't have been happier with the experience. I found the class content to be perfectly paced. Anne explained each exercise well, so I felt confident that I was doing the right thing each time I got on the bike, yet the class did not go so slow that I was bored. Each session of lessons was very fun. The venue was a parking lot in front of two motorcycle shops in El Cajon, with vending machines and bathrooms (and inspirational window shopping). As a teacher, Anne is great. She is calm, patient and friendly and has a fantastic understated sense of humor. She is clearly and experienced rider and she conveyed the joys and dangers of motorcycles in a balanced way while enlightening us on how to avoid common problems. She was attentive and gave great feedback during the exercises. Anne keeps her classes small and the mood is relaxed and informal, she had her dogs with her also, adding to the chill atmosphere. I hope that she offers some intermediate classes some day. As others have mentioned, you do not get your road test waiver from Anne's classes, so after taking Anne's class, I took the CMSP course. I was very glad that I had taken Anne's class first, because the range portion of CMSP, while valuable and fun in its own right, is paced too quickly for absolute beginners in my opinion. I am giving 2 stars because the website does not disclose that taking this course is only intended to prepare you for the permit test, which I had already passed, and does not waive the need to take the DMV road test, which the CHP course does: www.ca-msp.org. So, I spent 2 days taking their class only to get a shoddy business card with a statement that I had completed 9 hours of training. That said...if you have never ridden a motorcycle and are an absolute amateur then I do HIGHLY recommend this course, they take it from the ground up and will teach you how to ride and handle a motorcycle step-by-step. The instructors during my classes were Joe, Chris and Jack. Joe and Chris were truly professional and friendly (even though Chris fell asleep at least twice on Sunday) but Jack was a bit of a tool, he would be better suited as a corrrections officer or gym teacher than a motorcycle instructor to paying customers who had a choice whether or not they want to use "his" school. There was also some discontinuity in their program, half of us had one class manual and half the other dated version, one instructor recommended using downshifting to slow the bike, the other said only clutch, so if you follow one instructors commands you are violating another, etc. If I had it to do all over again I would not do it all over again. Bottom line, if you know how to work a manual transmission and ride a bicycle I recommend taking a class that will leverage that prior experience and allow you to waive the DMV road test. read more

Here is my honest Review about the San Diego Motorcycle Training. I took the first class. we didn't do allot of riding at first and we pushed the bike around, but I learned more in those moments about how my hands coordinate and how the bike works, brakes feel like, where and how I had to position myself to be safe. I learned the basics of motorcycle riding. How to control the Clutch and Throttle. And this is what I needed as someone who only sat on a parked motorcycle bike to do a pose or as a passanger, but actually never rode it by myself. In PSC on the other Hand was much more fast paced, after lunch we were in sec. gear and turning corners and swurves. Most in my class did it without problem, but allot of them had motorcycles experience or already have motorcycles without license. Yes Dealers will sell you bikes even with no license!! I failed the practical part at PSC not that I am stupid past the written with no problem, it's just being very cautious and getting bomb with tons of information where my left and right feet and left hand and right hand has to go and put all those information together where a little to much for me. I had an very honest teacher at the PSC he saw his students as kids and he didn't want me to go on the street riding like I did. So he said to come back and schedule one on one, and I just have to redoo the practical. In my opinion both are good, if you are experience rider or are familiar already with the basics of riding a bike changing clutch etc doing it without thinking, and are just aimed to get a license than PSC is for you, but if you are a beginner like I am and you don't know how to change gears on a bike and you want to learn the basics of riding a bike than San Diego Motorcycle Training is for you. I rather train in a safe enviroment learning how to ride a Motorcycle than risking my life to learn to ride it on the street. It gave me the confidence in being able to control the bike better. P.S. Anne might have an accent, but I understand her very well. She is a very dedicated amazing teacher. read more

I completed the 9 hour "begin to ride" program recently. I intend to return after taking my motorcycle permit test with the DMV. They offer group classes and one on one tutoring. They have what they call "appropriate sized" bikes for beginners that are available for rent. The rentals are 250cc Honda Rebels. The bikes you train on in the parking lot are lightweight 125cc Kawasaki bikes. They no longer offer the DMV skills test waiver, however, if you learn the right way, the DMV skills test is nothing to fear. If you're considering learning to ride a motorcycle, this is an easy going, comfortable environment to learn in. I suggest reviewing the information on their web site: www.begintoride.com. The prices are affordable as well and they often offer specials and discounts. I've been told they are the oldest motorcycle training organization in the country, which is impressive. read more

I called these guys to do take advantage of their $264 Best Deal: 3-hour practice session plus one week rental. It seemed like a perfect opportunity to get some practice time and get my motorcycle license. I rode for 2 years of college but never got the license to be legal so I am motivated to get it. After speaking with the owner and staff it you can't just schedule the practice session and then rent the bike. You have to either complete the continue2ride course or the begin2ride course which is totally understandable, but is not clear on the website. I tried to sign up for the continue2ride course but it was cancelled due to low enrollment so I couldn't rent the bike during my vacation when I hoped to get the license. Private Lessons are offered on the website but for some reason private lessons aren't available at the time I am writing this. Also, their office doesn't seem to be staffed normal business hours as I called throughout the day on a monday and only got the machine. Just leave a message and they'll call you back, even if it's after hours (my call back was after 6pm). The staff is friendly and does their best to be helpful, despite not being able to accomodate what I interpreted from the website. I posted an initial "frustration review" at the time I was dealing with trying to rent the bike and the owner contacted me to see about resolving the issue (and having me adjust my reivew). He seems interesting in making sure the website is clear, but I haven't notice that he took my suggestion to clarify that a "3-hour practice session" is the continue2ride or begin2ride course. I still plan on attending the course when I can find the time and will post review on the actual course. read more

I received my M1 several years ago but didn't really ride after that, so now that I am finally ready to get out there, I thought a refresher course was a good idea. This course is exactly what I was looking for to train my son and wife to ride a motorcycle. This is tailored to new personal who wish to enter the motorcycle realm with little to no experience! This is not a safety course where you can waive DMV driving test but designed to teach fundamentals to build upon your experience and prepare you for the safety course! They limit the class to 4 students at a time and I think that greatly improves teacher to student academics! I was greatly pleased to see them both riding and turning in such a short time. I am very pleased with my investment and strongly urge you not to cut corners in your training to being a rider! There are 3 courses. (B1-B2-B3) each level fundamentally important to your training that you can complete in a single weekend (Sat & Sun). I advice you to check weather for the weekend before you book even though our weather generally in sunny! There is a cancellation and reschedule policy posted on there site. Took this for extra practice after taking courses at PSC. It was a good experience. Anne is very knowledgeable, and has a good sense of humor. She puts a lot of emphasis on reducing unnecessary danger, and being comfortable, and having fun. The motorcycles are good: a couple of 125 Kawasaki eliminators, and a Yamaha dual sport. Be prepared for a good work out! For the first class you spend a bit pushing around the motorcycles and walking them. And from there on you ride more and discuss material. It's slower paced, and you work on basic controls in more depth than PSC so it's better for the absolute beginner. Anne is a great teacher! Take this course! read more

Best beginner rider course in San Diego!!! I've never ridden a motorcycle in my life. My husband grew up riding dirt bikes and my son picked it up in his teens. Now our kids our grown. I want to play too! I recommend these classes to any beginner rider, but especially to those wives and girlfriends that want to ride, but whose partners may not have the patience or time to teach them. Anne starts from the very beginning of correctly mounting the bike all the way to riding, weaving around cones, shifting gears, etc. I left with skills I can practice to become a safe and skillful rider. I'm completely new to riding and took all three beginner classes to see if I liked it enough to go for my M1. Anne is really nice and I thought the pace was good for me. I believe that my experience here helped me for when I took the CHP-approved training course (ELSEWHERE, to get the DMV waiver). I'd recommend this place if you're just looking to try riding, but are not yet ready to commit to getting an M1 or if you haven't ridden in a while and just need a quick refresher. read more

The continue2ride course is great - and I highly recommend it. I took the PSC course last year and obtained my motorcycle license. However, I have not purchased a bike yet and I wanted some additional training and practice before getting a bike of my own. Also I did not feel like I was ready yet to drive in traffic on the roads. The continue2ride course includes 3 hours of training along with a free rental on Sunday to use the bike on your own. This was perfect for me as a new rider to re-enforce proper technique and to have some time actually riding in traffic. There were 6 riders in our class, so the instructor was able to give plenty of individual advice to each student. The feedback given on my technique was very helpful. On Sunday I took advantage of the free rental and drove the bike in the area and into Tierrasanta. There is a very quiet street right off of Ruffin Ct. where the training facility is located. This road circles around and comes back up to Ruffin Ct. I started there first to get my confidence up. After I felt comfortable with that I went down Ruffin Road back to Clairmont Mesa Blvd and East to Tierrasanta. This area includes hills, along with residential areas if you want to get out of the traffic. This was perfect for me. Overall it was a lot of fun - and I feel more confident in my riding as a result of the course and additional practice time. read more

Long overdue review. I took some motorcycle training classes with Anne. I had passed the CMSP course but I was not ready to ride streets yet. Anne's class was a great way to refresh my skills and get a better feel for riding. I'm really slow when it comes to my motor skills and muscle memory but the structure of San Diego Motorcycle Training really shows you the ropes one by one. It's a very stress free and relaxed way to learn how to ride a motorcycle. You do not get the DMV test waivered but Anne does make a point about how a lot of people are not ready for streets from just a weekend class. The purpose of this class is to get you informed about the risks of riding and to engage beginners on basic motorcycle controls mixed with drills that demonstrates important skills like braking or turning. How you get your license whether it be the CMSP course or the DMV way is up to you. In a nutshell, if you want a stress-free and relaxed environment to learn how to ride a motorcycle, this is the place. For me it was worth it to get extra training to prepare for street riding. Anne is a really sweet lady and she never made the class intimidating. It is perfect for newbies who would like to start riding or want a bit more training after completing the CMSP or getting their license. read more

I love Anne and San Diego Motorcycle Training! The Begin2ride and Continue2ride courses are an excellent way to gain experience and build your confidence on a motorcycle. It's cool for men and women. I had no experience with motorcycles and wanted to learn to ride. I took the Motorcycle Safety Foundation's Basic Rider Course, passed and was able to get my MC endorsement without taking a test at the DMV. Then, the first time after I passed the class and got on a motorcycle, I completely choked and became very flustered and was really too unsafe to ride. To gain experience and build my confidence, I took the SDMCT courses and am happy to say, after the courses I am comfortable on my motorcycle and on the street. I recommend taking these classes, the knowledge, skills and additional experience may save your life. read more

I was pretty sure I would be riding a motorcycle by the age 16. But at the age of 60 I finally made this come true. I signed up for this course, with confidence . The day of the course was growing near and I got major cold feet, again. Being determined to ride a motorcycle, I conquered my fear, I went anyway. Iv'e always loved riding motorcycles but always did this on the back. At my age the offers to ride aren't as many as I would like. Taking matters into my own hands, I decided to learn and ride my own motorcycle. My instructor, Anne, was wonderful. Anne, was very patient detailed orientated and fun. Anne pressed the fact that riding motorcycles is a dangerous sport and how to minimize ones potential for becoming a statistic. If ever their was a teacher deserving an apple that would be Anne. My hats off to "MotoWorld" of El Cajon for hosting this course in their parking lot. In this fast paced time most businesses are worried about their bottom line. It must be a slight inconvenience for "MotoWorld", but I'm guessing knowing how important it is to get a strong foundation to becoming a skilled rider, they allow this course to take place. I'm totally impressed. This is the kind of business savvy San Diego needs more of. The classes are capped at 3 people so you get plenty of 1 on 1 time. The course is slow paced. Rather than rush through things she has you do plenty of exercises designed to get you to understand the fundamentals of riding. Anne is awesome! She's very passionate about what she does, and it shows. The class sizes are small, 3 people max, so you get a lot of 1 on 1 coaching. No skills test waiver is offered, but if you complete the series you should be able to easily pass the DMV test. If you ask her why she doesn't offer the waiver, she'll give you a pretty compelling argument. I'd recommend this course to anyone that's never ridden before and wants to get into it! read more

First off let me start by saying- If you are like me and have never ridden a motorcycle before, these classes are more than worth it. Before taking Anne's classes, I had taken the PSC class assuming I would just get my license and start riding. The problem with the PSC class is it is far more useful to people who have at least some idea of how to ride. If you go in to PSC and try to learn how to ride there, you will likely get the basics but pick up a lot of bad habits in the process that can easily get you killed on the street. Motorcycle riding requires some fine movements and adjustments that instructors trying to watch 12 people cannot catch regardless of how much they may want to help. So I went to San Diego Motorcycle Training because I did not feel even remotely ready to ride on the street. Anne is absolutely wonderful. She is a patient and kind teacher who will work with you until you get the mechanics nuances of riding. I took all 3 of her classes and have learned magnitudes more than I did in PSC. It is strange that you will not receive a license after Anne's classes but you will after completing PSC. This really seems backwards. If you are not sure whether or not you want to ride, just try the first class and see how you feel. There are only 3 people per class so you will get individualized help and you will learn the correct way to ride. I feel 1000x more confident in getting on a bike and riding than I did after the PSC course. Which is not to say PSC is bad, it just helps alot to take this course prior to the PSC. Also, as for the older yelp reviews about this course, I think only Anne runs it now. I highly recommend this course for any beginning rider read more

Awesome class! I previously took a class that waived the DMV driving test but didn't feel comfortable riding on my own yet. Anne was very good at walking everyone through the basics and giving detailed and immediate feedback during the exercises. The different drills and exercises along with the feedback was very effective for learning and building skills. After taking the 3 beginner classes with her, I feel ready to leave the parking lot! The small class size (4 students max) was ideal as well, nothing felt rushed and there was plenty of opportunities to ask questions. Anne is an excellent instructor! This is pretty much a shady operation. They never fully reveal the costs or deposits associated with their "real" fees until they have to. It is designed to keep you in the dark until you've invested so much time and money with their training you would be spending more to switch to another training course. I just completed all three courses and I would have to say.......learning the basics helped get confy with riding a much bigger bike (from 125 to 1200). Anna, the lead instructor is friendly, helpful and funny making the course not boring at all. They provide you pretty much everything but the gloves. The other instructors are also very helpful as well. If you have never been on a motorcycle and would like to learn how to ride, this would be a course I recommend. A few years ago, I had taken one of those CMSP courses which endorses you to waive the practical test at the DMV, and having no prior experience with riding a motorcycle, I really had a difficult time. Everything felt so rushed. But with this course, everything feels timely. While this course does not give you the endorsement, I'm so glad that I decided to take it! With the CMSP course, I really had a difficult time grasping the idea of maximum braking and weaving, but this course made it easier for me. Anne, the instructor, is a sweetie! If she feels that you need extra help on an exercise, she talks you through it and effectively corrects you. The best thing to do before taking this course is to remind yourself that there is no shame because it is a BEGINNER course, after all. Don't be ashamed if you feel like you might slow the class down. Anne does a really good job of helping you if you start to feel that way. I strongly recommend this program! read more
