Very late update. They're is no quality control with this company. They came and fixed some issues from the first review. I asked, and paid, for the guys to check all the water leaching lines. Rather than that, they severed one if the water lines on the slope. So when I went to problem solve why things were still dieing, I saw that the rubber water line was severed keeping most of the back yard from getting any water. I informed the owner who said "let me know if there are any more problems"......... There were nothing but problems. This was always my problem, the quality control. I had mentioned it, but was told "I'm not going to look over my guys shoulders". Well, maybe hire a foreman, or you come QC. It's sad because most of the work was quite beautiful. read more

I was beyond impressed with Brett and his team. They do not mess around! On day one, there was a full crew of people, by the end of the day they had my backyard hill (which was full of weeds) leveled and ready for cement to be poured. A couple days later they had another crew with a cement truck and within a week, they had completely transformed my backyard into a beautiful landscape masterpiece with lighting, retaining walls, and steps and walkways. I truly can't say enough great things about Brett and his team from landscape solutions, and the incredible job they did at my house. I attached some before and after photos, so everyone can see for themselves. After meeting with Brett, I decided to give them the green light on a complete back, front, patio, pergola, landscaping, all encompassing job. Almost a year ago we did a major overhaul on 3 sides of our house. I attached some before and after photos, should be pretty easy to figure out. We did internet research and also got a referral to help decide to go with Brett and San Diego Landscape Solutions. We knew it was going to be a big and expensive project. We contacted them and Brett came over a few days later to help us understand and even design our future backyard. He worked with us to get creative ideas to help us maximize, yet stay near our budget. We worked up a plan and for a low fee he provided a full detailed drawing of our design. As you can see in the pictures we did full demolition of concrete, removed some dirt, built retaining walls, replaced fences, added grass, pavers, plants, irrigation, a fire pit and full landscaping with lighting. Nearly a year later as I finally get around to typing this, I can say we are thrilled that our backyard has been transformed. The maintenance has been minimal and of course nothing has broken. Sure a few plants died, but they were taken care of and replaced, not sure if that's standard, but he did it anyway. Initially, we set out to do our backyard and after being as happy as we were, we later continued to use Brett and his crew to finish out our side yards and a few minor things in the front. We've ran out of land to landscape now, but over the past year Brett's crew has remained the same and I've dealt with many of them directly and they were always nice to me and my kids. Pros - No subcontractors to manage, San Diego Landscape manages your whole project, he even helped me deal with a fence subcontractor hired by myself to make sure it matched our design. Brett helped save a major mess as the fence almost went in the wrong spot! - Nice and courteous crew. Daily, they cleaned up and left a minimal mess as the project went on. - Daily updates. This was my favorite part. Sure it was all drafted up and designed, but before a wall is laid, a hole is dug or a patio is shaped... Brett and his crew will do a walk through with you to make sure that's where you want it to go. There WILL be things you'll change your mind about as you build and that was something very reasonably handled. - They promised to start a few weeks out and they did. - They told us it would take 6 to 7 weeks and it did! Cons - I ran out of yard to redo! Bottom line, we had a great experience working with the company. Trusting your contractor is sadly such a huge issue and there was no problems here. Brett is a straight shooter and will give you a fair deal. If you want it cheaper and note quite done right, do it yourself! read more

After the drought was over, our backyard was a total disaster. We decided to have a pool installed and our landscaping updated (this includes stamped concrete around the pool that he was able to match to our existing patio). After researching many different landscapers, getting quotes, etc., we chose San Diego Landscape Solutions. Brett was great! He came out and gave us an estimate that fell into our price range. He worked with the pool company so that he'd know when to start work on our project. When all was done, he had created a paradise for us. We are so thrilled with it!! I purchased a new construction home in Santee with no backyard landscaping. After pouring concrete using a family friend I reached out to Brett at San Diego Landscape Solutions for a quote for remaining improvements. After bouncing his numbers off of 3 other quotes he was in the middle. What sold me was his landscaping knowledge and creativity to adjust my plan to something better than I had in mind. I was very picky about the worksite cleanliness and they went out of their way to protect existing improvements and clean up each day. Installed ~600SF sod & sprinklers, 250SF paver patio with gazebo foundations, conduit for electrical, river rock, drip irrigation for plants. Brett is very responsive and honest. Did not feel like I was getting scammed or asked for money to fund the project ahead of progress made. Been burned before by unlicensed and unethical contractors. I bought a home with a BBQ island that needed refurbishment. New gas, electric, grill, and countertop. Brett came out and took measurements and promised a quote by the weekend. Never heard back, followed up with him and he again promised the estimate by the next weekend. Allowed extra time and emailed him again, at that point he never had the courtesy to reply again. read more

I'm giving them 3 stars because they actually came out and gave us a quote. A lot of places wouldn't even look at our property when they found out our price range (about 5K for a smallish job). We wanted the lawn ripped up and replaced with a drought friendly yard. I was impressed with how well the owner understood what I was asking for. He was hard to get on the phone with follow up questions, but I had family coming to town and his was the only reasonable quote we'd gotten. Through a slow email exchange, I was able to get on their schedule and the work was done before my family arrived for the holidays (in Dec. 2012). Now looking at my yard 1.5 years later, it's just heart breaking. Despite the fact that we paid for a drought friendly yard (and we are currently living in a massive drought), with ripped up roots, a drip system sprinkler for our bushes, landscaping cloth, and organic mulch, our yard is now overrun with weeds. We spent $6K and had a beautiful yard for about a year. We thought it was a great investment, but for one year's worth of satisfaction, we basically paid them $500/month and now we need to hire a gardner to redo what we'd already paid a landscaper for. I could see this growth being a problem in an area with lots of rain, but it has literally rained exactly 5 times since we landscaped. The weeds were never properly disposed of and I'm guessing he used a substandard landscape cloth. I cannot recommend them to anyone looking for an environmentally friendly, low maintenance yard. read more

After a month, I emailed him and then received a ridiculously high quote a few days later. The bid was 100% higher than all others we received for comparable work. Brett and Andy were terrific! I bought a house that had been recently remodeled but there was no landscaping in place. I wanted a low hassle eco friendly rock front yard with a small lawn and garden area in the back. Everything was completed in the time we agreed and on budget. I wanted an RV pad, gate and hard landscape installed in my side yard. When I sent out emails to various landscapers Brett at Landscape Solutions jumped right on it. He promptly emailed me back with a rough idea of what the job would involve. After meeting in person Brett wrote up a detailed estimate which looked great. Brett and his team started work a couple of days after I signed and paid the deposit. Everything went fast and was well done. The RV pad is made with thick pavers that will stand the test of time. All of the gate material was top notch including big steel posts and beams. Brett also had a lift master system installed so the gate is automatic. When I moved to Chula Vista about 2 years ago I had Brett and his crew do some landscaping. I was very happy with their work. This year I decided to make my front and back more drought resistant and made the mistake of choosing a different landscaper. Not sure why I didn't go back to Landscape Solutions. After 2 months of small problems I called Brett to see if he could complete my project. He (and the same guys from 2 years ago) came out and did a beautiful job completing my front yard. I have one more small thing to complete and it will be Landscape Solutions that finishes it! I have learned to stick with a crew that comes when they say they will, finishes when they say they will, uses quality materials and is pleasant to work with. Who new there was so many landscape possibilities. From start to finish Brett and his guys were nothing but helpful. From design to helping with making choices. They installed 1000sf of synthetic turf that looked unbelievably real. Some hardscape, accent lighting, and drought tolerant plants. Our house looks better our water bill went down. Landscape Solutions put in new grass a few years ago and did a good job on our lawn. The front lawn still looks great but our backyard grass had died due to too much shade. After consulting with Brett about what we wanted, they put in new grass, some new sprinklers, fixed a broken one, extended our patio area, including more concrete at the side of our house, cleaned out the drains, chopped down one of the trees, repaired part of the retaining wall and painted it, and put in some new plants by the side of the yard. They know what they're doing. Now we need some terracing on our incline and will call again later to get that done. read more

The city recently required that I have the sidewalk in front of my house replaced. After the work was done, I was left with an area where my pavers were higher than the sidewalk, which created a trip-and-fall situation. I knew it would be difficult to find someone to fix this since it was a small job. After receiving a recommendation from a local supply company, I contacted Landscape Solutions when I saw on their website "No project is too small or too large". Keeping true to his word, Brett agreed to do the job, and was here this morning with his crew to do the repair. They did an excellent job, in a short amount of time for a reasonable rate and were very pleasant to work with. Let me start by saying I used Landscape solutions on two projects back in 2012 and had no issues with them. So that being said I was in need of a new lawn in my yard so I emailed them on January 15th. I told them there wasn't a rush but I need the new lawn in and established by the end of May beginning of June. I was told this wouldn't be an issue. So since I didn't have an issue before I didn't go looking for any other company. Since I hadn't heard from them I emailed them again today (April 3). The reply I got was "sorry for not getting back to you but as of today I'm booked until the middle of June." Thanks for the great service. Inflexible, obvious inflation on the price, $1250 to haul dirt associated with a retaining wall which was already priced over the industry accepted price range of $10-25/sq. foot (Brett prices at $35/sq foot just for the wall which I was trying to go for 3 foot high) of wall. read more

But he had family plans that weekend so it would take a couple of days. We didn't hear anything back. When contacted he said he would send something over but he was going fishing so it would take a couple of days. We never heard anything back. Wasted my time. We are extremely pleased with the landscaping job that Brett and his crew did on both our front and backyards. They installed artificial turf, a large paver patio, a block wall and many drought tolerant plants. The crew were always professional, worked long days, and always cleaned up the area before leaving. Brett and his great crew finished my landscaping job this afternoon. It came in on time and under budget. Brett had great suggestions and ideas, as I had not hired a designer. They put up a retaining wall, pavers, planted several plants and created a great place for my dog to take care of her business. Brett's crew worked tirelessly and looking at what was accomplished in only four days, is remarkable. I would recommend Landscape Solutions to anyone who wants to hire a knowledgeable landscaper, diligent workers who clean up at the end of the day and provide excellent craftsman ship. I have hired many companies in the past 15 years remodeling the inside and outside of our home. This has been by far the best experience we have had with a contractor.
