I was suspicious of this place. The overall review score isn't real strong, but let's be honest, most restaurants aren't impressing like they used to. There aren't a lot of solid Mexican choices in the area, so sometimes you got to settle for whose established on the block. The last time I had Mexican here, there was a place called Melaque, or something to that effect, but they are long gone. Service here was really slow, from being seated, to having our order taken to getting our drinks refilled. That said, despite service being inexcusably slow, it was polite and friendly. The chips didn't taste real fresh. And the salsa was less than chunky r flavorful, but the meal was served hot. All restaurants say hot plate, but these people meant it. The meal was probably a C+, but the way that plate was smoking, it promoted the flavor to a solid B. Price and portion were both reasonable and if this place was on my block, I wouldn't hesitate to come back. Another beef I have has become more common. Places are not serving signature plates for lunch like Carne Asada, Carnitas, etc. Only ground beef and chicken items. Lunch is a great way to sample the menu and you are serving those items anyway, so why not for lunch. In the end, pretty basic and nothing special other than the heat of the meal. 3/5. read more

We just moved to the area and thought we would check out this cute Mexican restaurant down the street from our house. We walked in Thursday night at about 7pm and stood at the host desk for a good 5 minutes with no one around to seat us or even greet us... we heard someone sweeping so my husband looked around the corner and saw no one, we were talking and looking around but no one came to greet us. My husband looked into the bar area and the bartender made eye contact with him so we thought she would come to greet us but nope, no one ever came so we just left disappointed that we didn't get to check out this Mexican place so close to our house. Beware - Probably the worst Mexican meal I've ever had. Really low quality food. Expensive.

This is one of the best and most favorite Mexican restaurants I have been to. The service is always on point, the staff are extremely friendly and cheerful, and I have not had a bad visit there yet. I started frequent San Blas during the pandemic, I had been there a couple times before it all started, and they just impressed me with the quality of food even after it sat in a Styrofoam container and made the 20 minute trip back to my house. When you eat there, the food is top notch. The chili Reno is really not my favorite dish, but I tried it once on a whim, and it blew my mind. They have a wide variety on their menu, you can pretty much get anything you want, and again, like I said, I have not had a bad meal in this place. read more

We decided to eat in the bar. The bartender didn't help us until we've been there for about 10 mins. He took our drink order and brought them to us. But he never asked if we wanted to eat and we waited another 30 mins before he brought us menus. The chips were a bit greasy, the salsa was alright and the side of refried beans were a bit bland. He finally took our food orders. While we were waiting for our food I noticed what appeared that the bartender was flirting with one of the customers who was there with what seemed like their significant person. As I watched it was the best part of the entire evening. Spicy and auspicious. We finally received our meals. The rice was overcooked and crunchy. The beans were bland. And we ordered shrimp and mushrooms with butter garlic sauce. Ugh! There was more mushrooms and only about 5 shrimp in the main meal with hardly any garlic butter. The table next to us seemed to know the manager as they sat 20 minutes after us, ordered 20 minutes after us and still got their food before us and even a special visit from the manager. My husband and I have been going to San Blas Mexican for a couple of years now, but tonight is the last time we will walk through this restaurant door. For the last three months that we have come in the service has just gotten worse and worse, but tonight it hit an all time high. We sat in the main dining area..... there was hardly anyone in there but the bar seemed busy. Absolutely I love the staff, the vibe, the food, and the extra step they make to get things done correctly. I go here here quite often with my boys. We have our own booth. We enjoy eating together in an environment that's familiar and family friendly. We have been coming to this restaurant for years, thirteen to be exact. Every time it is always a great time. We had a family lunch at San Blas yesterday (8/2018). I had the San Blas Burrito and it was terrific. I wasn't sure what to expect as I'm not sure I've had "Colorado" sauce before, but it was delicious. My friend had Arroz con Pollo and it was also excellent. (see the pictures we posted). Other family members had the chicken burrito and taco salad, both of which got really good reviews. The servers were really patient with us (big groups are annoying, I'm sure) and super sweet. Came here last night with a group of gentlemen. I told the host we would have 7-10 people. We were told we had to give a hard number before we were seated, odd but okay..We ended up with 8. Typical Mexican fare. Nothing fancy. Decor was bright pastel paint on the walls and lots of greenery. Nondescript place on the side of a plaza. You could pass by without ever knowing. The staff is friendly and family oriented. The decor is beautiful. Kids found some hidden characters in the paintings. Restaurant is family owned. Try the queso and grab a margarita (Cadillac margaritas is a better choice). I mean Mexican food is pretty similar everywhere (meat, beans, rice, and tortilla) This place is consistent and I've never had anything make me sick here, which I can't say for the other places near here. I really love chatting with the non judgmental staff and owners. They really take care of you. Everything I've had has been exactly how i thought it would be. This one is a hard one to rate. I loved the decor. There were hand painted murals everywhere, and it was very beautiful and festive-looking, but the vibe didn't quite match the decor. We haven't found a god Mexican restaurant around here and so we tried this place a few months ago. I can't say enough about this place! I have always ordered Togo and have had excellent results. They are very nice on the phone (A very nice woman usually answers maybe the owner) and I usually ask what she recommends to order and haven't been disappointed. Tonight I ordered chk fajitas and added a homemade pasilla chile relleno. Everything tastes great, good size portions and I'm in love with the relleno! They haven't forgotten anything and include warm chips and salsa. We dont even think about the chain restaurants anymore. Thank you San Blas for caring about your food and your customers. Went here for lunch, had their burrito thing, the flavor wasnt authentic but the burrito was huge! I enjoyed it. The price was ok, we also order asada tacos, the meat tasted oily, I know they dont grill the meat but perhaps if you gonna call it asada at least give it the flavor. I have posted about San Blas before, I am a frequent customer. This is the type of place that you go to when you want a no-risk, no hassle meal. When your day has been just a complete mess, and you just want to sit down for comfort food. On those days when you wake up, you put shaving cream on your toothbrush, you get soap in your rise, your trip over the sidewalk, your car has low pressure, your boss is being ....yeah, go to San Blas. When you want a fun date night with the wife, when you want to impress your first girlfriend, when you want to go to a place that's good for family or for friends or for both, this is definitely better than any one of those other cookie cutter Mexican restaurants. I have made it my personal mission to try every item on the menu, and I've nearly succeeded. I have yet to have a dining experience there below 4 stars, if I could I would just sit down and tell them to just serve me food. The front half person was doing alot of the leg work. Our server took our order and then never checked in on us again. Luckily the other guy was on his game. This restaurant is a hidden gem. As you enter, you might think this looks like every other Mexican restaurant you have been to, but you would be wrong. Seldom do I take the time to write reviews for Mexican Restaurants, as I find many of the same staples common amongst them and often very little to differentiate them. Not so with San Blas, though the interior boasts some of the traditional decor, there are fun #Disney inspired Easter eggs drawn amidst the traditional frescos. Their menu is varied and boasts many of the staple dishes one would hope to see, but their willingness to accommodate the customer (I had a few special requests) and the fact that basically everything they serve is homemade sets them apart. Their enchiladas sport the perfect cheese-sauce-meat ratio and for those who are brave enough, they even have a house Habañero hot sauce you can request. They do offer complimentary chips and salsa, but they too speak to the customer with whispers of their homemade origins and the tender care with which they are brought to the table. Everything about this restaurants food would keep me coming back again and again but their customer service is where they really shine. Carlos who was our server is just one of the many pleasant and engaging wait staff and hosts who call San Blas their home; because a home is what it feels like, from the soft melodies playing in the background, to the genuine smiles of all the staff as you are guided through you dining experience, with the care that a grandmother would show, this place feels like home, and for me, that is the best kind of feeling. This place has better food than the restaurant it was before I'll give them that. I will also say that the shredded beef enchilada was really good I enjoyed it! The servers made sure we had salsa and water at all times that's awesome. Now, the steak fajitas were ok. Not too much flavor, the taco was standard and so was the salsa. It's more on the tomato sauce sauce rather than a thinner hot sauce type salsa. The decor consists of mural paintings on the walls, standard everything really. Our server seemed rushed and a little disconnected. I can tell he's more of a witty-back and forth banter type of server if that helps you visualize. But there was another guy walking around and took care of us. I would say try the place out, there's not many places to eat on canyon unless you want fast food.
