A friend was married and we needed 5 suits for the groom and groomsmen. Since I'm a Mens Stylist, I was asked to find suits for the wedding party. Nothing off the rack fit well, and it was impossible to find 5 of the same suits which fit. Steve went above and beyond to work around our 3-week timeline and he nailed the fit for all of us. He even worked in enough time in case any alterations were needed. The fabric Steve recommended was perfect for the groom. Its weave gives it the look of a linen yet the wool material leads to very few wrinkles and a fresh look. The medium light grey color works rather well in black-and-white photographs which pleased our photographer. So far, I've had two suits and two shirts made with Steve. I've seen his work on my friends' and family's suits and I have been consistently pleased with quality, fit, and value. Overall, Steve does an amazing job and I highly recommend him. read more

My husband was in a week ago and was treated with such disrespect. He was belittled and ridiculed. He's not one for confrontation but stood up for himself and when the owner realized my husband was in the media industry he changed his tune and offered a bottle of "Samson" branded wine and a free shirt. I'm sorry, but a cheap bottle of wine is not going to cut it. I don't know what your problem is? Was it his skin color? Because he had gym clothes on? Or are you just a pretentious suit snob? I bought a suit from Steve a couple of years back. Service is a+ this guy is a people's man! He loves to talk and explain what he does and how he does it. He likes to talk about the importance of his work and I guess by reading the reviews some people think it upsets them.. Well.. Steve deserves nothing but 5 stars! I got my suit for my wedding overseas. Steve knew he has a timeline he had to go by and he finished the suit before the deadline. I was very happy with the service and quality. I even still see him from time to time on the street and he recognizes me and says hello.. Even though I only bought 1 suit from him. Everybody at my wedding complimented me on the suit! He made me get French couplings (I got a tailored shirt as well) which really had people talking about it :) If I ever buy another suit, it would only be from this guy! I was and still is very happy with this place and recommend it to everybody I know that needs suits. read more

Overall, this was a bad customer experience.  Not only was the workmanship and the ability of this person was in question but his social skills need some work.  Constant conspiracy discussions about China and coronavirus, Biden coverups, Trump politics, and the media's political bias was all he wanted to talk about.  Pelman was always regurgitating some facts he heard from some obscure online media sites and talking about his political views during our fitting sessions and it got annoying.  He would talk so much and get so worked up that he would forget to write things down or take down my requests or measurements.   I was in his shop in October 2020 and ordered a bespoke jacket to be made in his shop. I picked out the fabric, aid a deposit, and he said the garment would be ready in four to six weeks. When I did not hear from him after 4 weeks, I called him to as to see when I could come for a fitting. I then found out that he had sent the fabric to a factory in China. I told him to get the fabric back and make the garment in Vancouver as we had discussed. When the fabric finally made it back to Vancouver in December, it took another three months for him to complete the garment. There was no focus or attention to detail in his work.  As a result, whenever I came in for a fitting, there was always something not done, overlooked, or something he forgot to do.  In March 2021, after almost six months and five fittings, the jacket still does not fit right: -The jacket is now too small around the waist and seat. -One front panel is longer than the other by a quarter to half an each. -The sleeves are now too short. -Remnants of chalk markings on the garment I will get someone else to work on the jacket and bring it up to my specifications.  I will gladly pay someone else to work on this garment and fix his mistakes just so that I don't have to deal with someone as loathsome as Steve Pelman of Samson's Tailors. Needless to say, I will not be getting my three-piece wedding suit made with this man.  The number of mistakes he made and the amount of time it took for him to fix them were too many.  If I had ordered my wedding suit from him, it would have taken longer and maybe not finished in time for my wedding.  If you want a suit made, avoid this place and don't waste your time and money. read more

Do not waste time and money with this person. He is uncapable to listen to the customer requests, He made a suit which I wore twice before failed during a function (I was shaking someone hand) and the jacket back at the sleeve attachment fall apart with great embarrassment in front of the all party. To make this suit we had 5 fittings, after using for the first time i had to go back three times for him the make the alteration to allow to be a better fitting. By the way he claims that the suits are tailor made when in reality are actually made somewhere in Asia. I ended up throwing away the suit (i left the Jacket in the hall out of embarrassment. After having to pay more money he admitted to have the suit made in Asia, but he would have the new one made in Vancouver (I highly doubt it is true) i had (9) fitting and at the end the suit is not better than the first one, he made damages to the fabric during the multiple adjustment and he does not inform me, when I brought it to his attention he admitted to have it done in one of the previous adjustment and he felt that was not necessary to inform me. to had to all this the last time I was at his office/house he had the courage to ask me to refer people to him if they needed a suit as he needs work and is willing to do them for $ 650, please note that he charged me $ 2300. As well during those fitting we had to listen to his conspiracy theories, being rushed in one occasion because he scheduled our fitting with a a date, which she was waiting during a good part of the fitting, and tolerate the cooking smell and washroom odors that impregnated the room. Please make sure that you do not make the same mistake I made (I was in a rush when originally went to him) to purchase any form of apparel from this person, you can buy better quality at any shopping mall for a couple of hundred dollars. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AT SAMSON "TAILOR', BUY THE WAY HE IS NOT A TAYLOR, HE USE THE BE A FABRIC CUTTER. read more

Undoubtably the most incompetent so called professional I have ever met. His antics embarked on my being a bit over weight when his poor measurements became a issue. He also had made my shirt sleeves four inches too to short, leaving him with the look he was caught. He takes from his over stuffed returned cupboards clothes he ponds onto you. I was in need of a suit because I was just over a year away from graduating university and I needed a suit for job interviews. When I first arrived I spoke with Steve Pelmen, the owner of the shop, made it sound like he would be the one doing the tailoring. He was the one that took all of my measurements. I learned that Steve was not my tailor only several weeks after I had paid, during a phone call when, to my surprise he said, "let me see if my tailor can come in at that time." During my initial consultation in the shop, I tried keeping the discussion about clothing, but Steve kept talking about Cryptocurrency (Bitcoin) and one of his personal investments that he is trying to promote--neither of which I was interested in. The store was not particularly well organized. The interior of the jacket I received was the wrong pattern: I chose a checkered pattern for the interior of the jacket, but the jacket's interior pattern does not resemble the one that I chose. Additionally, the sleeves are a completely different (striped) pattern, which is common in suits that are mass-made (not bespoke/custom). The entire interior pattern including the sleeve should have been the checkered pattern that I chose, or at least the entire pattern should have been uniform, which leads me to my next point. I believe that the suit was made overseas, and Samson Wardrobe's in-house tailor did some alterations. When the suit first came in, it was huge and needed major fitting--that doesn't seem right at all. I have tried on pre-made suits that fit similarly on the first fitting as this one did. The suit should have already been made to my measurements and then adjusted. An additional problem I encountered was that I came from Washington state in the US. He charged me the full price in USD over PayPal, and I'm realizing that the price was advertised in Canadian dollars. I accidentally paid him and extra 20%; something he happily overlooked. My pants are awful--and I mean bad. All of my department store slacks look better. Steve suggested pleated pants for some reason, which was a suit-killing mistake. When I was in the military I had a better fitted Class A uniform. If I could get my money back, I would. I have been processing this for about two weeks now. I am going to bring up a dispute with PayPal. The jacket isn't bad, but it wasn't worth the $1600 (USD) price tag. I'm going to try my luck at Indochino or Suitsupply because I need a full suit that looks good. read more

UPDATE: these shirts have held out really well over time, which is why I'm giving Samson Tailors an additional star. This tailor apparently accepts limited customers so I suppose I was blessed to get the nod. I met with the owner and was measured up for some custom shirts. An annoying feature was the constant sales job during my visit. For an apparent "bespoke" tailor, you'd think they would get a neck measurement correct but no, the shirts arrived with a neck 1" too large. To give credit where due, they did not give me any hassle about repairing the shirts and ultimately gave me a discount but it took several months to get there and I had to correct them on the amount I was quoted versus the amount I was invoiced. All in all, the shirts are decent - nothing spectacular. I would recommend having one shirt made if you're curious and gauge the experience from there. It's hard to find custom shirts in NA that are timely, quality and affordable. read more

I have two suits from Samson's, each with a vest and an extra pair of trousers and I'm very happy with how they look, fit, and feel. And Im certainly very happy with the pricing relative to our high-priced suit retailers. Compared to my made-to-measure suits, these fit like a GLOVE. After each suit arrived, I went through a number of fittings but this isn't a bad thing, think of a suit as an art, as a living suit. It's unlikely to fit perfectly right away; even if you go to suit heaven, Savile Row, it is my understanding that you will have a number of fittings. This is a great benefit compared to using out of town tailors who fly in for a week then ship your suit to you - they aren't there to make small adjustments that a consumer might not notice could be made. First I should say Samson's suits offer very nice quality with great value. Value doesn't mean cheap, it means what you pay for and get relative to other high-quality suits whether off the rack or made-to-measure. One of the things I like the most is that Steve cuts the fabric then has the suit constructed in Italy. This is an important differentiator from made-to-measure; at Samson's all of the measurement points go into a pattern that is completely custom to you, made to measure takes some measurements and applies them to an existing pattern. I liked that he measured the height of my arm and the circumference of my arms and legs for a better fit. To my definition, this would fit in the bespoke category. I found the initial consultation interesting and I didn't find Steve pushing a sale. When I was looking at fabric, he actually dissuaded me from a more expensive fabric because it didn't fit with the kind of suit I told him I wanted. He genuinely seems interested in constructing a suit you want rather than getting the most expensive sale. If you appreciate well made suits, give Samson's a try. I find the value much much more compelling than local luxury men's clothing stores. read more

I cannot offer advice regarding bespoke work, which seems to all be positive, but DO NOT go to Samson for tailoring work. I dropped off a pair of trousers to be altered, and was told they would call me when they were finished. I never received a call. 2 weeks later I went in to pick them up and found out that they had not been done. "Sorry I didn't have time" was all the explanation I received. read more

I've had the hardest time finding a good place to get alterations done. I've tried so many places and was never happy with any of these places because I spend good money for quality alterations on my expensive clothing. I had two Hugo Boss suits I needed fitted. I saw that this place did custom tailoring and I wanted to make sure I got my alterations done right. I went in just before they closed and Steve the tailor ended staying and fitting me for an hour past closing time. First off, he knew what the hell he was talking about so I felt pretty comfortable. I went to pick up my suits two days later and it was exactly what I asked for. To every detail, he made it look like it came out of the factory. I will continue doing business with Samson's and I highly recommend this place anyone else. read more

First time I heard of Samson Suits was when my brother got married. Samson suits tailored his suit and He told me that's the 'go to' place for a great tailored suit in Vancouver. My own experience at Samson suits was nothing but amazing... I met Steve just 3 or 4 weeks prior to my wedding.. yes. For some reason, I was under the impression that this kind of timeframe should work.. I realized quickly, that I should have started this whole process at least double that time.. Nevertheless, Steve managed to pull it off! I ordered a 3 piece suit, the fit was just right. I did own a few suits in my past, this one definetly sits on me like a dream. Samson suits delivered an amazing product at great price, with great attention to the smallest details. Will post photos when I get them.. I very highly recommend this shop. Steve is extremely knowledgeable and experienced. I had brought in some suits that I took to a tailor that seemed to make them more ill-fitting. Steve knew exactly why the pants weren't fitting and suggested a few simple fixes that made a world of difference. I had initially paid to have the seat taken out per his advice, and when that wasn't enough, he also added some strips in the thigh and then redid the legs and hem that the previous tailor had done, and he didn't charge me for the additional work! Steve cares that you look good and feel confident in your suits above all else. While these were off the rack, I'm definitely going to have a suit made by Steve next time. The worst tailoring experience of my life, and I have had many good ones. Steve, the proprietor was nice but scatter brained; he forgot which fabrics were selected and outright forgot to order fabrics. We had commissioned him to make 4 suits 10 weeks in advance of my wedding. Steve is a master of the bait and switch, constantly adding extra charges to his quotes. Each and every one of the suits had issues. He altered my pants 6 times and they still looked awful in my wedding pictures. I had to get another tailor to fix them after my return from my honeymoon. As much as he boasted about having 30 years of experience, it was never evident in his customer service, or his skill level. I will never wear that suit again. Avoid this tailor at all costs, or you will pay the price. read more

I cannot comment on the quality of his suits as I chose not to have one made. I can however comment on his business demeanour. I was chased away by his sales approach. For me, he took the approach of trying to make me feel inadequate for not having proper custom suits and told me I would be a real "leader" and "respected by executives" if I paid $1500 for a suit from him. He also called me "frugal". I lost respect immediately and left - I felt ill after dealing with him. read more

We decided to not go through with his services because we were completely put off with his condescending demeanour. From scolding us for being early and not thinking to have brought a pervious custom suit with us, to continually talking about how my fiancé needed to impress clients at work and be high end, when we had told him he didn't wear suits to work. We were not impressed to be spoken to like that. His work space was dark, tiny and smelled. He may be talented, but it was not a pleasant experience and I would not recommend working with him. read more
