After trying a small bite of kokoreç during a street food tour of Istanbul, I instantly knew I had to have more. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to have a full sized sandwich during that trip, and thought my only chance of tasting it again would be heading back to Turkey. You can imagine my joy when I spotted this place, just a short walk from Hermannplatz.
I popped in with my boyf on a chilly Saturday. We both had the 1/2 kokoreç im brot, with Coke to wash it down (I'm still working on growing a taste for ayran). As we waited for our food the chef gave us some stuffed mussels to try. He also confirmed that we knew what kokoreç is (it's sweetbreads) but we explained that we're from Scotland so are used to munching on spiced offal. The food arrived, piping hot, and delicious. Afterwards we were treated to a cup of Turkish tea- on the house of course.
I'd definitely recommend, especially if you fancy a change from the usual döner stands. read more
