Moody waiters. Re-heated food. Expensive for what it is. Much better turkish food elsewhere.

Gokyuzu & Kervan - Upstairs is a massive food hall, bit noisy and not intimate so maybe not for that first date unless they really love meat.

Unbeatable Wood…read moreGreen is my new local and since moving from Tufnell Park I keep coming back to Gokyuzu & Kervan.. let's call it G&K from now on. Ok it can be a bit intimidating when busy as it's noisy. Also the lighting makes me feel somewhat uncomfortable but the service is generally excellent and the food is unbeatable.. so you can understand that I have become a bit conservative when eating out in Wood Green. G&K is a Turkish restaurant that serves some authentic food. The plates are full of meat or veg and they provide an excellent salad, bread and dip starter for free. The salad is amazingly fresh every single time, the bread is warm and the dip tasty. The mains have so far never dissapointed. My donner is not too oily and goes well with the rice that's included. My wife's vegetarian was surprising good.. the aubergine was soft, moist, slightly oily and flavoursome. I m tempted to try the veg myself next time but the donner keeps calling me. The mixed grill is exceptional value for money. It has meats, bread and rice from what I remember. You also need at least 3 people to have a proper go at it. For once we tried the dessert.. the baclava was fresh but the rice pudding (called something else) is light and delicious. Personally I prefer the Greek baclava as it's a bit more moist but your taste could be different. To help digest we had some Turkish coffee, again exceptional. Turkish food is the harder edge of middle Eastern food. I always think that they are less delicate in cooking meats than Persian which by the way is my personal favourite. However the mixture of fresh salads seems to lighten the load of the meats on the body. K&G provides both quantity and quality and is well worth a visit.

Wood Green is ruled by Turkish and polish shops. So to discover a new Turkish restaurant/take away…read moreafter 3 month absence is not a big deal. By myyyyy did it look good from the outside. Warm colours, a wide range of seating arrangements and loads of nice full plates. My friend and I had a some catching up to do and this was as good a place as any. The menu is very typical. Loads of meat and not many veggie options. We ordered two starters and two mains. That was way too much! They gave us hummus, bread AND a salad on the house. Plus all the rest of the delicious food this nearly killed me, as I can never resist a great Turkish meal. Also the waiters were amazingly nice and when I asked for some extra rice it was given without any extra charge. Amazing.

Our dry red wine went well with the vegetable kofte served on top of a rustic tomato sauce with a light aromatic seasoned rice. We tried the ground lamb pide with an egg on top and the thin crust was great! Nothing could beat the end of this experience...a complimentary treat (amuse bouche size) and a Turkish hot tea. Five Stars!

To be honest, I had come to Harringey Green Lanes because I wanted to try out the food at Gökyüzü,…read morebut when the line at this place was out the door, I consulted the Yelp App and it pointed me in the direction of Selale. I have to say, it was the review of Yinnie C. that made me come here; I trust her opinion and if she says that eating at Selale has made her rethink the idea of a kebab, then I should come here as well. And indeed, my dining experience at Selale was great. The place itself is not very special: it's pretty much a big room with loads of tables and mostly unoriginal design. In fact, I actually thought they were trying to hard...but what it was lacking in terms of design features, Selale made up in terms of food and service. I sat down and soon a waiter came by and asked me for my order. I easily get overwhelmed by the sheer choice of different items at Turkish restaurants and so I simply asked the waiter what he would recommend. In a very friendly manner, he then placed a hand on my shoulder and pointed me to the lamb shish. I asked him if I should go for the mixed shish (chicken and lamb), but he nudged me into ordering the pure lamb shish...and, boy, am I glad I did. It was delicious! Here at Selale, every main course comes with a mixed salad, topped of with a delicious pomegranate dressing. Also, they serve humus and tzatsiki (cacık) alongside oven fresh pita bread. At the end of the meal, they also offer you a free glas of tea (çay). When I was about to get up the waiter shook my hand and I left happy as a puppy...that's what I call a great experience!

After a day of talking on the phone nonstop, I just wanted to escape the house and get some good…read morefood. I had walked by this little place many times and always wondered if it were any good...well today was the day to give it actually a try...and boy am I glad I did!!! The Today's special sign on the street had actually lured me in: Vegetable Moussaka. I figured, since I make the best meat moussaka in the whole wide world, I might as well get inspired by some vegetable moussaka...and boy did I get inspired!!! There were only a few other customers in the restaurant and I thus had the waiter's full attention. In fact, the service that I received here was so attentive and so friendly that even a high-end restaurant could learn from them: the waiter changed the cutlery, refilled my water, served the plate facing the right way, offered condiments...etc. But I am digressing...anyway, I ordered the Tabbouleh Salad as a starter and that was already pretty awesome. I mean, it's a rather standard dish, yet the ingredients were well balanced: it had a nice zest to it and the pita bread that was served with it was smooth and delicious. Then I got my moussaka...and believe me I prayed for it to be as good as the previous experience...and boy did my prayers work! Seriously, the moussaka was the best I've ever had (aside from my meat moussaka, of course). The eggplant was melting on my tongue and the bechamel/cheese sauce was heavenly as well. The waiter offered my some chilli-sauce on the side, which I happily stirred into my rice - and I had yet to experience yet another culinary climax! Well, sitting there all by myself, I had also the leisure of watching the waiter prepare a couple of coffee drinks. And I was positively surprised has how well he prepared the Latte Macchiato...very carefully did he first pour steamed hot milk, topped it off with some foam and only then did he actually - very carefully - pour the espresso into the glass; the end-result was a perfectly three-tiered Latte - the way it is supposed to be served if I were to rule the world. (Only the straw was missing!) Alright, enough said...but just to reemphasise how much I liked this restaurant: my throbbing headache, which I suffered from upon entering the establishment, had vanished by the time the check came...a mere £10.90! ...boy am I glad I came here!!!

Like many things in life ( for example; exam results, birthday presents, the contents of a sharks…read morestomach) Turkish food can either be really really good, or really really bad. There is always that element of risk, seemingly more so the further away you go from Dalston. It's always a lovely surprise therefore when you find a really high quality and innovative Turkish menu in the depths of North London. The Adana wrap is delicious. Sometimes pita bread is too much! A lighter surrounding makes the whole thing more moreish. I could literally eat about five. The service is friendly and warm, and there is a good range of specials at reasonable prices. The decor isn't too bad either. Although still not up to some of the legendary Dalston Turkish grills, this is still a surpisingly good restaurant in a surprising location. Do not underestimate the power of the Adana wrap.
