Nestled in downtown Bowling Green this wannabe upscale restaurant falls short of that vision. I have ordered here on numerous occasions and quite frankly it's hit and miss at best. Yhe food always arrives cold and they either make the order incorrect or forget an item(s). When they're on top of their game the food is fantastic. Their menu offers a decent selection of dishes and they're moderately priced for this area. The one thing I do not recommend are the burgers. They are HORRENDOUS and a terrible portrayal of an American classic. You can taste they are premade, pre-formed frozen patties and there is absolutely no type of taste to it. No matter if you order medium, medium well (my two preferences) they are dry af. If you do happen to order there on a good day you'll enjoy your experience. ~ One of the classier choices in BG's limited pool ~ An excellent choice for dinner or for a romantic date if you are limited to Bowling Green. There is a variety of dishes to order from, along with weekly variation specials. To drink you can get the expected sodas, beers, or liqueur. I have never had to wait to be seated, and the tables are fairly large. The highlight of my visits to SamB's is always the waiting service. They are always very knowledgeable about the cuisine and the libations, and are always friendly. I have never not had a good conversation with the waitress or waiter upon a visit. I argue that it is one of if not the classiest dining you'll find within BG, and the prices are not too outrageous. Although it was pretty busy for a Monday we were seated and helped immediately. All the staff was great and very accommodating to everyone in the restaurant. To start we ordered the Brussels and Bacon and pretzel bites. The Brussels and Bacon is a MUST-HAVE! It has the perfect amount of sweet and savory with the best bacon!! We ordered a Lavender Martini and Pomegranate Paloma both were fantastic. For dinner we ordered several burgers which were all great! We ordered the Shrimp and Scallop Risotto. The shrimp and scallops were large and perfectly cooked. We also ordered the Walleye bites which were so delicious. They tasted great with a little spicy bite. I used to love Sam B's, but I think I am done eating here for a number of reasons. First you got rid of the parmesean crusted pork chop my absolute favorite. Now you took drinks off of your happy hour. Your serving chips instead of bread with your spinach and artichoke dip. Just a lot of not so good changes. Very much miss the old place. I heard about this place a lot and everyone said it has good food. I ordered a chicken parmesan which was pre-cooked fried chicken with one layer of parmesan cheese on it warmed up in the oven. The food clearly lacked salt and also the sauce tasted like a salsa dip you buy at grocery stores. My beans were also salty. My friend ordered a salad which was super salty. I'll start off by stating that I'm an "out-of-towner" and so I can't offer comps to SamB's from the vicinity. Back home (Tallahassee), I'm a stickler for isolating the market and sizing up ratings within comparable area establishments. I came for lunch back in August of '16 and I knew I'd need another visit to be fair. In terms of ambiance / decor, I'm told this is one of BG's nicest. Perhaps so. Both times have been weekdays, and the restaurant was relatively quite. The prices are in line with "nice restaurant" (I.e., white linen service) prices. The signature steaks (New York Strips) were 12 oz. Both were ordered medium rare, however both were delivered medium+ (not quite medium-well, but closer to MW than to M), yet were flavorful. Both came with squash, mashed and green beans. My steak had more gristle than I would have liked, and the green beans didn't seem parboiled in advance and were cooked 2 minutes to little for my taste. I'm giving this a four star rather than the three-stars that it deserves solely because the server (very attentive) DID ask me if everything was ok and I already knew - from the chef who announced it previously, that there was only one New York Strip left after our two. Additionally, I generally don't make a scene when the meat comes over cooked unless it's absent of any red. I probably won't return to SamB's - not because it's not good (I'm sure they do other dishes really well) but because whenever I'm in bowling green it's for a limited time and I know there are other restaurants where my ROI is greater. read more

In Bowling Green for business and checking out the restaurants. This is a fave so far! I had the Chicken Marcella with mashed potatoes and green bean Melody. It was delish. We also got the spin dip appitizer and it was AMAZING. Close second to the best I've had! Brought my 2 year old with me and as this place seems to not be kid friendly as first I was wrong. We went to try this place out last night and it was mediocre. The server didn't know any of the specials that were posted on their Facebook. We had to show him the Facebook post to order off the specials because he hadn't heard of them. We got the drink special, lemonade cooler as well as a Boston rum punch both tasted unsweetened, just not that much flavor. Maybe they could ask how sweet you'd like your drinks, for $8 a drink you'd want your customer to enjoy and order more. None of us liked the drinks so we switched to fountain drinks. The appetizer was good, we had the art dip. We all got soups or salads. They ended up coming out with our entrees. We wouldn't have ordered them if we knew. I kinda felt like our server just forgot but maybe that's how they do it. I had the chicken Alfredo it was just okay. The chicken had flavor but the Alfredo sauce was lacking. My boyfriend had the vegan burger and he did really enjoy that. I wouldn't seek out to go here but wouldn't be absolutely against it either. We just had SamB's cater a large event here in the athletic department and it was absolutely fantastic! Jim and his staff are always SPOT ON with making sure the food is fresh, delicious and timely with the delivery. Could not ask for a better restaurant in this community when it comes to either eating in their location on Main Street or if you need it delivered for a special group or event. We had a table for six to celebrate a birthday. We were seated quickly and order was taken in a timely manner. The food was delicious and all of Us were more than pleased with the food. Both couples paid with cash. When our changed was returned one couple did not receive the correct change. When they pointed out the mistake to the waiter, he said "Oh, that is where this extra $10 came from" as he Pulled it out of his waiter wallet. He then said, "I never Was good at math." I was disappointed in SamB's. The food was decent but not great. The recipe was good but I think they just dont know how to cook really. My shrimp was slightly over cooked and the dish was overrun with sun dried tomatoes. The zucchini and squash was cooked perfectly but had zero seasoning. Also I could tell the salad had been in the fridge for quite a while. There were quite a few wilted pieces. Overall I would say if I had paid $12 or $13 for this dish I would have been happy but for $18 I expect a better executed dish. read more

I'm surprised to read some less than stellar reviews for Sam B's. This is a fantastic place to eat and truly one of the best in BG. They have a couple of good beers on tap. Try the Brooklyn IPA. Also, the fried chicken dinner for $9.99 is a good value. You get four pieces of chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, and a vegetable (last night = peas). Last night, it was actually a little too much for me to finish, which is rare for me. Man, when I attended BGSU I absolutely loved taking my visiting family to SamB's. Their menu was always creative and everything tasted delicious and fresh. My favorite was always a cheeseburger because you could tell it was a hand-pattied, thick burger that wasn't a frozen block purchased from GFS or something. Well, that was over 10 years ago now. Recently I took my husband to Bowling Green to show off my alma mater, and of course I suggested SamB's. It looks so dark and gloomy inside now, but I like how they had local artists' work hanging around the place to purchase. The menu was still very creative, unfortunately it just didn't taste as good as I was hoping. We started with chorizo-filled deep fried rangoons because they sounded wild and we've never seen them on a menu before. The chorizo was good, but besides that it was just a mound of cream cheese and they were served lukewarm. My husband had the special, which was a swordfish meal with tapenade. He absolutely loved it and he said it might have been the most perfectly cooked piece of swordfish he's ever had (and being a huge seafood lover from Florida that's saying a lot!). I, of course, ordered a cheeseburger. Unfortunately, this time it looked like a very obviously frozen Bubba burger. Very greasy, no seasoning, and the patty was so wet that my bun fell apart not even halfway through the meal. The fries also tasted like generic frozen fries and were cold. Such a sad experience for me. We did order dessert which thankfully made up for my disappointing burger. The creme brûlée was amazing: creamy, full of sweet vanilla flavor and topped with a perfect crunch of caramelized sugar on top. Our waitress was very friendly also, so that was a huge plus. Overall, half of our trip to SamB's was amazing and the other half was a huge let down, so I think a 3 out of 5 rating sounds pretty reasonable. I'm not against visiting again in the future, but it's certainly not going to be my go-to food destination in Bowling Green anymore. read more

I live locally and have eaten at SamB's a number of times over the past 9 years - and again last evening. My experiences with the quality and flavor of the food has been all over the board. Unfortunately last night was one of those "off" times. I can't really recommend this restaurant unless you are looking for some very bland entrees and side dishes. Although the Brussels sprout appetizer was quite tasty (if a bit under cooked). The Pinot Grigio I ordered with dinner was also quite sub-par. The wait staff have always been friendly enough and I do love the decor inside. But I am not planning to spend my time or money here again. Overloaded with pepper and hot pepper I thought maybe I had the recipe wrong. Checked online and it is salt and pepper to taste.
