They do have a good sized field house here, with programming for a variety of age ranges, so it's worth checking out the CPD activities schedule. There's lots of green space, but also baseball fields, tennis courts, and a nice sized playground. The playground, too, serves a nice range of ages. But what I liked most about this park was the greenhouse and outdoor natural play area. There are places for kids to sit for various activities that take place here, an outdoor kitchen, and a large greenhouse. It's called a "teaching greenhouse", and is unique amongst Chicago parks (at least as of 2026). There's a program called garden buddies aimed at toddlers and I wish I lived closer to be able to have my child participate in it! There's also a plant sale each year. If all that weren't enough, an orchard--the first in a major metropolitan city in the US!--was planted in 2008. Apples, pears, and more--including the paw paw, an unusual, native Illinois fruit--grow on these trees. Currants, berries, and more have also been planted here. I'm excited to keep an eye on their events.

This is a local company which provides quality entertainment at very affordable prices. Some of the recent shows include Chicago, The Odd Couple, Wizard of Oz, and The Last Five Years.

The facility features include: -Kitchen -Indoor and Outdoor Playground -Classrooms -Meeting/Party Room Rentals -Water Playground -Skokie Festival of Cultures -Senior Lounge The indoor playground, Exploritorium, was called Chicagoland's "Best Rainy Day Activity Site" by Chicago Magazine. This interactive playground includes arts & crafts, costumes, building blocks, a water play area, two and a half story tubes and tunnels, and more. Adjacent to the community center is the Skokie Water Playground. They have three slides, a zero depth pool with play equipment including a water play structure with large bucket, lanes for lap swim, a locker and shower area and lifeguard facilities, concession stand, turf and suntan area. When I first spotted this building against the dramatic clouds and bright blue sky yesterday, my spirit soared. I don't even care if that's silly talk because that's how enamored I was with the view. "What is this place?" I had to pull in the lot and go inside. What I found were crafty-colorful witches greeting me.... I roamed along to where some voices were coming from and before I knew it, I was standing in an "old-school" gym/basketball court/auditorium. The space looked out of "Dead Poet's Society" or so like that. I backed up toward the wall to take a photo and whoa!! radiant heat from the grate (looks original!) on the wall. I was wrapped in all kinds of warmth. Further wrapped figuratively, by the one lady employee who saw me marveling at this place. She began telling me all about the programs, the fitness center and you could tell she loved her job, the city of Chicago and the place she worked. The indoor facilities and the outdoor grounds are all very well maintained. The large playground was rebuilt last year and is one of the nicest ones in the North shore area. The small playground (which is part of the preschool) is fully fenced and has a splash pad that operates during the summer months. There is an outdoor walking path that loops around the entire Rec center and an indoor running path at the fitness center. There is also a state of the art gymnastics facility for toddlers to big kids. Overall, this is an excellent recreation center that is very well maintained and has just about everything. The only negative aspect of this center is that the playgrounds can get too crowded when all the kiddos from the preschool, summer camps, and enrichment programs all come out to play. Otherwise, very highly recommended.

Here they run a variety of activities for children as well as adults and seniors. Almost any activity you can think of including sports, fitness, dance, theater, gymnastic and art are offered here. They are always adding new things that are popular. My son just started a video game design class which is really up his alley. During holidays and throughout the year they put on special events for families to enjoy. They run a very good preschool which is one of the most affordable in the area, but make sure you book it early because it fills up fast. The quarterly book that they send to the residents is huge and nicely laid out with programs. You can register for classes with ease online or there. Not only that, but the staff are all very helpful. If there was ever a time when we were not completely satisfied or were suddenly unable to attend, we were refunded our money and never given a hard time. Anyone can sign up for the activities here, however it is just less expensive if you are a resident. What I love the most is the convenience of everything being in one location, so I'm not running all over the place. I also like how many options there are. We are always trying something new and fun. They put on the cutest theater productions and tickets are not expensive. The rec center has alot to offer so check it out for yourself!

This summer camp and after school program was the worst place I've ever experienced a few years…read more Every time I come to camp, I witnessed a lot of bullying and fighting going on everyday, and the counselors wouldn't do anything about it, but only a few trusted counselors that were my favorite had jump into action to break things up. I was in the 10 and up group, and I've met one of the worst kids who used to bully me. This was because I had suffered from a mental disorder, but overall the kids in my group started to accept me. I think that the alternatives they offer there, are pretty underfunded, or cost too much due to Covid, so that's why people don't sign up for activities anymore. I've realized back then that the program had stop hosting other activities where kids can be as productive as possible, because once again, due to Covid, the city can no longer afford it. They're charging parents way too much money to send their kids to camp. I even couldn't come to camp for about a month or 2, until my mom finished the payment. If you have the resources to send your child to a well funded program I would recommended, because it seems like the camp hasn't made a recovery to help kids with colleges and organizations where kids can be in a fun learning environment for their future

Facility staff was extremely unfriendly. Counselors were all very young and inexperienced and did not facilitate positive interactions between the campers. My child was reluctant to go every single day and has asked that we never again sign up for camps at this location. The only bright spot was the assistant director who seemed to be trying her absolute best to make this a good experience, but wasn't working with much.
