While her teacher was very sweet, my family and I were extremely disappointed with the overall recital experience. I completely understand that young children won't perform perfectly, but these routines were practiced for months and many of the dancers genuinely looked lost on stage. Most of the kids were staring offstage at their teacher the entire time for direction, and the performances overall seemed very unprepared and disorganized. Unfortunately, it wasn't just the younger classes either -- several of the older groups also appeared confused and messy during their routines. In my opinion, a large part of the issue was that the recital dances were not started early enough in the year for the kids to feel confident and prepared. To make matters worse, tickets were $20 per person for a recital held at the studio itself, which felt excessive considering the quality of the production. We also paid an additional $15 for a recital video link that still has not been sent out 4 days later, and there was no communication that there would be a delay. Had I known, I would have just recorded it myself. I'm not usually someone who leaves negative reviews, but I also noticed there weren't many realistic parent reviews available, so I wanted to share my honest experience for other families considering this studio. Unfortunately, we will not be returning.

The priests were are very good speakers. Homilies were all excellent and moving. The church is very old school Catholic. No one speaks once inside the walls. Not warm and welcoming at all. During the "peace" portion of the Mass, the priest didn't even say "let us offer each other the sign of peace." Few shook hands. Only a few held hands during the Our Father. And zero diversity. Everyone was white. (The is a Spanish service, but I did not attend that one.) I really felt like I was back in 2nd grade Catholic school. Very very traditional. Priest's back was even to the congregation at times. Some people might like this, but not my cup of tea. It was like stepping back in time 40 years. I prefer the friendliness and diversity of St Anthony's just down the street. 4 stars because of the beauty of the church and service.

I'm not sure how I didn't now about GLA's Annual Really Good, Really Big, Really Cheap Book Sale. This year it was held on August 9 and 10th, 2025 at McAlister Square. This evidently was the 24th year for this event that is held every August along with a ticketed kickoff event. If you are a book person you CANNOT miss this event. Yes, there were a lot of people and it was crazy, but it was so worth it! I was there for two hours. I purchased 3 hardback books for only $5.00. I could have bought a LOT more. (See the map layout for all that was provided.) I intentionally didn't take my own bag because I'm trying to cull down my book collection and I just purchased a Kindle. But...there is just something about a "real" book. Yes, the event was overwhelming and, yes, there were a LOT of people but there were a LOT of books. It definitely earned its title of GLA's Annual Really Good, Really Big, Really Cheap Book Sale. I can't wait to go next year. Next time I'm taking a group of friends, better walking shoes, and a REALLY big bag.
