This is a fun hole in the wall place to go in downtown anderson! Dan, the owner, is a great guy and he provides complimentary charcuterie if you stay for a glass of wine. It is not too expensive for glass, but I will say, if you check in on Yelp and get the reward for $1 wine, you won't be able to use it:( we learned that the hard way...I guess since the owners changed recently, they didn't know about the offer so they didn't let us use it. This adorable wine bar was recommended to me by a friend who lives in the area and I'm glad she did! It is located in the historic downtown within walking distance of The Bleckley Inn. The atmosphere reminded me of my travels to Italy with small tables inside and on the sidewalk. The wine list was impressive with selections from Italy, Portugal, Spain, France, South America, South Africa, and the US. All are sold by the glass or bottle and are very reasonably priced for as little as $7 for the generous pour. Our visit also included a free plate of "cicchetti" which included salami, cheese, olives, chips, salsa, and dark chocolate. I understand that it is also okay to bring a picnic! Our server was knowledgeable and helpful without being snobbish. He suggested a white blend from France which I was allowed to sample before ordering. In a time when televisions and mobile phones seem to dominate social experiences, it was refreshing to visit Viva Wine Bar where the customers were talking to one another! Welcoming and charming place in an old tailor shop. We visited on a Saturday night. The owner, Shayna, walked us through her wine list. There is something for everyone, including wine cocktails. I found the list was just the right size, many choices but not overwhelming. Generous 7 ounce pours, plus we were encouraged to taste before selecting our choices. The complimentary appetizers were a nice touch. Some patrons, including us, ended up bringing in food from nearby restaurants. Viva is a great place to enjoy a glass or bottle of wine with friends! The service is prompt and friendly, and the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. The wine selection has grown significantly since it first opened, and there's a lot of great wines to choose from. My favorites are the Phantom and the Lodi Estates (both reds). For those who want a nice place downtown to relax with friends but don't like wine, there are a few Italian beers, wine-based cocktails, and non-alcoholic sparkling sodas. I gave this four stars (1) for the great atmosphere, but (2) lack of customers (I was the only one). Since the Mushroom restaurant next door was so busy, I wonder what is lacking here. Also, I asked about wine tasting and, while not given a "no", was introduced to a $37/month wine club. This includes 3 bottles of wine, as well as "educational tasting information". I'm curious for more, so I may plan a visit with friends or family. One of the highlights is Cicchetti, which are similar to tapas, but served in Italy (particularly Venice). Extremely limited selection with unfriendly staff. This appears charming but lacks hospitality. I visit wine bars all over US and have been to Italy, Greece & Paris. This is one of the most disappointing. Someone suggested they opened to have a place for a travel club to meet - who knows. Perhaps variety, price points, and pairings will improve. read more

Not sure about the other reviewer. Apparently a little jaded since she is a "world traveller". As a casual wine drinker, I enjoyed the limited selection, since it is rotating constantly. The owner is very knowledgeable about what is currently available, and is rather friendly. The staff isn't always talkative, but they're generally younger.
