It is quite a dark blend, but still quite sweet and with none of the bitterness that I would usually associate with a coffee this dark. As an espresso drinker I can't comment on their milky coffees... Service was perhaps not the friendliest is have encountered, but very efficient. As mentioned before others, it is a super cool place with an incredible white coffee machine that probably cost more than my car. Springwood finallly has a trendy coffe bar. Bravo!

The restaurant has a lovely ambiance, and a more than adequate wine list. There is even a separate menu with a selection of boutique beers. The tables are well set with crisp linen, white crockery and shiny silverware. Servings appear to be all adequate or generous in their sizes. Regrettably tonight's dinner was just not up to scratch. We started with sparkling water with a slice of lemon, followed by a lovely Shiraz for me as accompaniment for my veal Oscar. My wife had a pleasant Pinot Grigio as accompaniment to her Baked Barramundi. All good so far. I ordered the Salt n Pepper Calamari for entree. Regrettably a poor choice. It was served as little squares of calamari with a spinach salad. The salad was nicely dressed and the calamari tasted pleasant enough, but it appeared to have been commercially prepared, was of disappointing texture, and just would have been so much nicer if it appeared to fresh calamari prepared wholly in the restaurant kitchen. On the other hand, my Veal Oscar was a very adequate dish, accompanied by nicely roasted half potatoes, beans, etc. The veal was tender and tasty and served with a lovely cream sauce. For desert, I ordered a Zabaglione, described in the menu as a "chilled, rich dark Belgium Chocolate mousse". That is exactly what it was, so I am at a loss to understand why it is called a "Zabaglione". In summary, a really very pleasant restaurant, with lovely staff and generally quite good food, only let down by a few small and unusual details. As a family restaurant in pleasant surroundings, I believe this restaurant deserves to be tried as you wend your way up to the mountains, but don't expect haute cuisine.

I knew then that this was a lifestyle to which I could become accustomed. So it was with great delight that I found Kemp's Kafé a few years ago, who, on lucky days, serve freckles with their coffee. A lovely homey-style café with staff who remember your regular order, use mismatched vintage crockery and serve up a menu of goodies that are freshly prepared, universally tasty and good value. The Turkish toast with ricotta and honey is a perfect brunch. They welcome kids, with a small play area available and have a selection of gluten-free options not common for the area. The warm orange walls are covered with the work of local artists for sale and although often packed at lunchtime, you're always made to feel welcome whether for a coffee, cake or lunch with friends. And did I say you might get a freckle?

To make a milkshake, they put a scoop of ice cream, syrup from a squeeze bottle and milk in a blender then blend until thin as water. The lady who made it confirmed it was meant to be this way. WOW, really! As insulting as it sounds, they need to order a milkshake at McDonald's ("Maccers") to get a sense of the consistency and flavor a milkshake should have.

Their opening hours are mysterious, and they are renowned for selling out almost as fast as they open. I decided to track this Shangri-La down. Wednesday morning. 11 am. Wentworth Falls. Down some stairs at the end of a car park and we're queueing. Yes, queueing. In Wentworth Falls. It's utterly absurd. There's not 10 people in the whole village at that time of the morning. Cars pull up. Everyone looks a bit edgy. The doors open, 15 minutes late. The better to build the tension, I guess. I'm 4th in line, and manage to snag 1 of the 2 AA grade tuna and avocado rolls, a seaweed roll and the one and only Inari. It's 11.17. I can't quite believe I pulled it off. I can't quite believe I'm queueing for lunch at 11am in the morning. I scuttle away with my ill-gotten gains clutched to my chest like someone's gonna wrest them from me. I prepare a snarl just in case they try. My food allergies are so bad, sushi's about the only thing I can eat with any safety. To have to catch a train for 30 mins, queue for 20 and then barely get any is freaking ridiculous. I feel like I've been snapped into some parallel dimension where sashimi grade fish has become the drug of choice. But I have a solution. MAKE MORE SUSHI. Please, please, please....
