I'mma start this review off by saying I don't like FISH. Like, pretty much not at all. I never…read moreorder fish when I'm in the United States or any type of fish soup to be sure. That being said,... When in Rome... Or Scotland.... So going to the UK, I've been there before, I know fish and chips is a thing. So when I am traveling, I will order and eat the local traditional dishes. So when we found Findlay's just by chance while driving through the Scottish countryside, the fish and chips was the thing to get. And I'm very glad I did to be honest. First of all, the cut of fish was massive. Like, covered the entire plate big. We were actually greeted and served by the owner of the restaurant (and possibly head Chef?) He was an absolutely wonderful fellow. He told us all about the history of the restaurant, how they are close to the ocean so they get an excellent selection of very, very good quality fish, which helps their dishes to be the best fish and chips you can get in Scotland. I believe that was what he claimed, and I think it'd be hard to dispute that. My wife and I very much enjoyed it. She likes fish a lot and orders it often, and she loved it. The breading was light and crispy and full of flavor. The fish was meaty and very tasty. The owner also recommended a local dish, which was the Cullen Skink. Now, prior to this experience, I thought skink was just a lizard. But I said what the heck, let's do it. And I'm so glad we did. It was actually a fish soup, no lizards involved. And it was very, very good. I literally finished the bowl myself. My wife and I shared it, but I left none in the bowl. It was that good. We very much enjoyed our conversation with the owner and I loved the interior of the restaurant. It has a very cute interior and it was a very clean restaurant. The the walls were covered with photos and history of the area, local fisherman and women who were involved in the fishing trade. It was very informative and just an absolutely wonderful lunch for us. To be honest, we chose this location due to the fact it was very close to where we happened to be, plus the name, Fraserburgh reminded us of the Fraser characters in the Outlander television series. Findlay's Fish Bar & Diner was an excellent experience for us from start to finish. And I would highly recommend it to anyone who happened to be in the area and looking for an excellent meal.

I was happy to see fresh caught Langoustine on the menu so we had to order. I was able to switch my…read moreorder from chips (had too many back down the road earlier in the day) to onion rings. The breading was light but greasy so I opted for taking off the breading so I could taste the langoustine. It was very good but I wasn't over the moon about the overall flavor of anything. I loved the little corner cafe though and the lovely gentleman who waited on us and everyone with genuine care and a huge Scottish smile.

My husband and I were staying just outside this teeny "downtown" street in a B&B, and were told…read morethere were a few restaurants in "the town" for dinner. So we came here and had probably our favorite evening. The hotel itself on the outside is a lovely old building, and the lobby isn't much to look at, but when you walk into the bar everything changes. Comfortable, homey, roaring fireplace and cushy leather couches to your right - and to your left the hugest selection of whiskys on a beautiful old bar. The gentleman owner, whose name I didn't get, was a treat! He walked us through his collection, gave us the menu and talked us through some various whiskys. He also recommended a local shop to buy bottles at (which we did the next day) and was helpful in helping us determine what we might want to bring home. We each had dinner - husband had fish & chips, I had a goulash. Both meals were simple but very good. And we had several whiskies on the couch by the fire. Truly a lovely end to a day in the Highlands.
