The restaurant was…read morebuzzing with excitement and every table was full when we arrived for our 715 reservation, and by the time we left at 10 we were one of the last to leave. That being said, we were never rushed, everyone working was kind and talkative, and made sure to let us know it was fine to take our time and enjoy our visit. My family is the type to take time over our meals, with multiple courses with bottles and lots of talking, so it was wonderful to be embraced and welcomed. I had the lamb shank, and oh my goodness, the meat melted in my mouth! Both myself and my sister in law had the lamb and both of our meals were exquisite! Everything we ordered was delicious, the atmosphere was incredible (the arched brick roof makes the space so unique and cosy) and the staff went above and beyond. There were numerous specials to select from in addition to the regular menu. My sister was driving so did not drink, the bar were happy to whip up a mocktail for her even though they were not on the menu. I wish I had another week in Scotland so I could eat at The Salt Cellar again before I leave.

I really cannot sing the praises of this place highly enough. Great food in a great location!

Greens Market here in the Highlands of Northern Scotland just killed us at dinner last night. I mean it was as good as any 5 Star restaurant we have at home (L.A., S.F., NYC). Each thing on there menu read like any gourmet place where jackets are required. Yet here I was in golf clothes and loving it. Located in the city of Tain, I had duck spring rolls with a husan sauce as a starter and a crab linguine as a main course that was delicious. The others in my party had halibut and beef cheeks; all of which was fantastic. A bottle of red and white wine, this dinner goes in my memory book!

The salad was fresh greens, red onions and various colored peppers with an excellent flavor. I couldn't resist a slice of the homemade apple pie for dessert. The egg brushed top crust glistened and was lightly dusted with sugar. Yum! The best thing about Greens Market is they do have wifi, a rare commodity in Tain. I stayed for quite awhile looking at my genealogy on my computer and no one minded. If they have to run a credit card, you will lose the wifi for a short period, but I was so grateful, this was not a problem.

It definitely beat the prebooked "sandwich and soup" lunch the rest of our tour group had. Don't let the shredded cheese fool you in the pic, it worked. We each had a bacon cheeseburger and shared fries and Irn-Brus. If you've had fries in the UK, they tend to be undercooked - these actually had a crunch to them! The bread was soft, the burger patty was delicious and the bacon is always better in Europe versus the US. It was cash only, which is fine. We also took away this AMAZING treat from the case...it was like a rice krispy treat but with butterscotch added to the marshmallow stickiness and topped with a layer of chocolate - *chefs kiss*
