That being said, we were never rushed, everyone working was kind and talkative, and made sure to let us know it was fine to take our time and enjoy our visit. My family is the type to take time over our meals, with multiple courses with bottles and lots of talking, so it was wonderful to be embraced and welcomed. I had the lamb shank, and oh my goodness, the meat melted in my mouth! Both myself and my sister in law had the lamb and both of our meals were exquisite! Everything we ordered was delicious, the atmosphere was incredible (the arched brick roof makes the space so unique and cosy) and the staff went above and beyond. There were numerous specials to select from in addition to the regular menu. My sister was driving so did not drink, the bar were happy to whip up a mocktail for her even though they were not on the menu. I wish I had another week in Scotland so I could eat at The Salt Cellar again before I leave.

The restaurant is spotlessly clean with a lot of character. We chose to eat in the ice room that had six or so tables. We were greeted immediately and shown to our table. We started with a nice bottle of red wine and then ordered dinner. I chose the whole plaice and my wife had the salmon pave with pasta and garlic aioli. Both were fresh, tender perfectly prepared. A nice selection of fish and seafood. Got some fish, scallops, langoustines and a whole lobster. Really really fair prices. You couldn't shop this much for this money in a chain store.
