We were driving across northern Scotland when hunger struck. Without many yelp listings (let alone reviews) to help us, we opted for the first place we could find. It happened to be La Mirage, prominent on the street corner, if anything in Helmsdale is prominent. The interior is small with around a dozen tables, Scottish music playing softly, and a fun interior with whimsical details that make it an enjoyable sit. The service was nothing fancy, but nothing was missed either; fast and spot on.
The food came out fast. Both of us had special fish (usually super fresh). It was salmon and super fresh. The portions were enormous, neither of us finished. We could easily have shared. It was a modest thirteen pounds each for too much food.
For what it was, they are a five star establishment. But, sadly, yelp does not allow for such parsing. So four is what it gets.
I would come back, but I don't know when we'll pass this way again. Passing on this review is the next best thing. read more
