There was one girl behind the bar at the time and I wasn't sure if anyone was coming, so I go up to ask. She was very friendly, told me she'd be right there in a moment. Brought me my menu and I glanced it over. Got the Shrimp n Grits which is one of my favorite dishes as of late. So many places do it, and not all of it is the same, and I'm curious to know how there's is. Blessedly, this one is a mix of hearty and light. Just the right amount of grits, which was thick, creamy, and heaty with a hint of cheesiness. Not sure about the Salt but this Tavern really Rocks! For starters we ordered a couple of appetizers, calamari and the hush puppies, they were both very well executed, kinda small portions well presented to look a little bigger but it is ok. The twin shush kabob made with tenderloin was also on the small side but very flavorful. I will go back when in the area and keeping in mind it is a tavern but a good one and I really mean it is good food, not greasy and not in a hurry from freezer to table. Desiring to visit a local restaurant, we checked the ratings and Salt Rock Tavern was very appealing. Went there on a Thursday around 5:00 PM for Happy Hour, more for the food specials since we rarely do cocktails. We were seated immediately and surprised to see two friends from our church that we haven't seen in a year. Got to visit briefly as they had finished their meal. Of course I had to try the Raw Oysters. They were large, juicy and delightful. We also tried the Fried Green Tomatoes, another favorite. They were crispy, hot and delicious, not overly breaded. A great start. I knew my wife would order the Coconut Shrimp, her favorite, and I planned to try something else from the Happy Hour menu. But the waitress mentioned they had Stone Crab Claws tonight. I have been in Florida over 30 years and never had them. Either I didn't think about them, they were out of season or the restaurant was out of them. So I jumped on the chance to try them. My wife's shrimp were delicious, I did get to try one, just one. Crunchy, sweet and mild with a dipping sauce that was perfect. I picked through the claws slowly and carefully. Although they were pre-cracked, there was still a lot of picking and removing very small pieces of shell. The taste was delicious. Glad I tried them finally, but I'll stick with King Crab. Food was terrific, restaurant was very safety conscious. Server Allison was superb and really took excellent care of us. We shall return!! read more

Seriously one of the best happy hours around. I met three other friends to try their happy hour on a Friday night. Happy hour goes until 7 PM or all day Sunday and Monday, I think. (I know for sure it's all day on Monday, but I can't remember Sunday and since I am a new mom I don't have time to go back and check. You can double check this on their website though.) They have outdoor seating but it fills up quick, so if you want it you should try to get there before 6 PM. My friends got there at about 5:30 PM and were able to snag a table. Their happy hour is very extensive. We got martinis, I tried the watermelon martini and it was very good. My friends got a blueberry martini and also really enjoyed it. I saw that they have sangria on their happy hour as well so I want to try that, but I'll probably make it their all their martinis first. Go check out their happy hour menu because you'll be impressed. They also have food on their happy hour menu so we tried the buffalo chicken dip, the tuna nachos, and a flatbread. I like the chips because they are pretty heavy and fried well. The tuna was my favorite because I found the buffalo chicken dip to be a little too spicy for me. The flatbread was just OK. Service was spectacular and everyone there was really friendly. I'm serious, every time we were taking a selfie another table would ask if we'd like them to take our picture. This happened to us twice. I guess when moms go out without their children they take a lot of selfies. Don't judge us. This is my new favorite spot for happy hour. We are heartbroken to hear Salt Rock Tavern in Oldsmar closed. We were regulars there and to say we'll miss it is an understatement. Their grouper tacos were the best we've ever had (I literally won't order fish tacos anywhere else bc they don't come close), other favorites were the popcorn shrimp, stone crabs, any and all flatbreads, the onion soup dumplings and the pineapple martinis....the service was always friendly an attentive, and all with outdoor seating available! Other things we ordered: k-bobs (cooked well), wings and rock'n shrimp (little kick). The pie was okay, not what you would think of when you think key lime pie (cake like texture & not much lime flavor either). I've had takeout before and in person was just as great. Today I decided to venture out and order the French onion soup dumplings and wow they were delicious! My go to- always is the tuna poke tacos, those are hands down my favorite thing here. My friends and I went to Salt Rock Tavern for their weekend brunch after hearing very good things about it. The brunch is Friday through Sunday, from 10 am - 2 pm. It costs $19.90 for adults, and includes two drinks (fountain drinks, Mimosas, Bloody Marys, or Screwdrivers). The inside of Salt Rock Tavern is huge, with lots of seating for all different sized parties. I thought it's very dim inside, so you might have trouble seeing inside if you're an old lady like me. The brunch buffet is laid out along several tables in the front of the restaurant, right when you walk in. There are servers who constantly attend to the food, changing out trays with new dishes and keeping everything neat. The mimosa and Bloody Mary ingredients are at the bar. You are given your alcohol in a cup, and you go up to mix your drink how you like at the bar. The buffet includes a lot of tasty dishes: Hand-cut Angus beef prime rib Omelet station Raw bar with oysters, shrimp, and mussels Eggs Benedict French toast Bacon, sausage, and breakfast potatoes Biscuits and gravy Belgian Waffles Fruits and cheeses Ice cream and dessert bar The omelet station and the raw bar were my favorite parts. The seafood is chilled properly and constantly changed out, so everything tasted fresh. You may need to wait around at the omelet station when it gets busy, but I usually found a lull when to place my order at. Overall, I loved brunch at Salt Rock Tavern. Service is fast and friendly. Very very impressed with Salt Rock's Sunday brunch buffet from 10:00-2:00! Atmosphere is fantastic, our waitress continued to clear off our table and provide drinks, and the people working at the omelet station, waffle station and dessert station were super nice and very attentive! Props to them for having great workers. Wow....it's only $19.90 per person and $8.95 for kids and it comes with two drinks (mimosa, screwdriver, Bloody Mary or regular drinks) and best part is drinks are only $2 after!! The food was fantastic! I'm not a buffet person but I will totally be coming here more! They had shrimp, oysters, fresh (I mean fresh! Right off the fish!) smoked salmon, fruit, waffles, muffins, pastries, and not only breakfast but had fish, chicken, and beef with sautéed vegetables (the beef with veggies was amazing!) my son who is super picky ate a bunch of different little pastries which was awesome and surprising for him! For dessert they have a cute stand and table of smaller portions (so try everything) and they have waffle bowls with ice cream and toppings. The waffle bowls are actually delicious to eat too! My husband and I had been here a few years ago for brunch and have not been there since (although I really enjoyed the brunch there.) We decided we needed to check it out for dinner and are glad we did. We got there around 6pm, which is right in the middle of happy hour (5-7pm during weekdays.) There are lots of appetizers available at discount prices as well as drink specials for beer, wine and liquor. We decided to try a couple aps and a flatbread. I ordered the wild mushroom and goat cheese flatbread and my husband ordered the wings and meatballs. I also ordered a blueberry thrill martini (ok, I had 2, they were good.) The flatbread was great. It was actually enough for a meal for me. I shared a couple pieces with my husband and he shared a wing and a taste of the meatballs with me. We agree that the wing sauce is really good. It isn't a standard BBQ sauce and it isn't a Buffalo sauce. It is kind of a mix between the two and we like it. Not really hot, just a little kick but very flavorful. The meatballs were pretty good too. Recently we went to Rumba in the same plaza. Salt Rock is much better. They have much more seafood and fish items on the menu and overall just a more varied and modern menu. We will be back. The atmosphere is also really nice. We sat in a booth but there is a nice inside bar, an outside bar with outside seating, and plenty of tvs to watch games. Some of the booths even have their own tvs! My wife got a large entree salad and it had very little dressing. She asked for more and was told there was a 50 cent charge. I said the salad has little dressing.
