Dr. Aaren Glick is truly one of the kindest, most compassionate veterinarians we've ever worked with. She helped diagnose our dog with lymphoma, and she made an incredibly stressful and time-sensitive situation feel manageable. She went above and beyond, including calling me after hours with updates, and I genuinely felt like she gave me her full attention and made sure we weren't forgotten. Because of her speed, diligence, and care, we were able to get the diagnosis quickly and get our dog into chemotherapy. That gave us an extra six months with him, and I will always be grateful for that time. Dr. Glick clearly cares deeply, and it shows in everything she does. Salt River Veterinary Specialists are incredible. Our dog Theo had bladder stones, and SRVS scheduled us to see Dr. Radlinsky the next day. After having some unsatisfying consults with other groups we were scared and stress but Dr. Radlinsky and her assistant were both extremely knowledgable and evidence-based in their approaches. They took time to explain everything and answer our questions thoroughly. The procedure was very reasonable compared to other quotes we had acquired (they only charge you for what is necessary)- but honestly that's not why we chose this group; after meeting Dr. Radlinsky and her assistant, we knew our dog was in the right hands. The cystoscopy was minimally invasive. Our dog was able to go home that day, didn't need a cone (because we could stay home with him), and they helped us control his pain. His incision healed nicely and the office has followed up twice to make sure he is doing OK and to answer our questions. I feel so relieved to know this practice exists. I researched laparoscopic spay, because I wanted an easier recovery for my one year old Rhodesian Ridgeback. Laparoscopic spay is a specialty spay, in which only the ovaries are removed. I found Salt River and knew after the consultation that my girl was going to be in good hands. Dr. Maryann Radlinsky was so very thorough and answered all questions. On surgery day, she called to let me know how my girl was doing and that they would call again once again, after surgery. Approx 90 minutes later, the surgery over and my baby was in recovery. Two small slits and internal stitches. We picked her up at 3:30 that afternoon. Other than being really hungry and Thursday, she was doing great. We gave her pain meds that evening but she hasn't had any since. The hardest part now is keeping her still. She wants to play and needs to be calm for 8-10 days. This recovery is nothing like the invasive spays I've subjected my girls to in the past. The office called the next day to see how things were going and they were very pleased that my girl wasn't taking pain meds and was acting normal. Minimally invasive is the way to go and I highly recommend Salt River and Dr.Rad. You owe it your beloved pet. read more

It's crazy that I almost didn't give this place a shot because of the bad reviews- my pets health is my life so I did a lot of research and she's not an easy case by any means. Dr. Rose has been so amazing and patient with all of our visits- even the weekly visits for a couple months. Yes, the office is super busy, so if you do have to leave a voicemail they have always called me back the same day. We have seen Dr. Aguirre a few times for our 2 dogs. On our last ultrasound on our 15 year old he recommended eliminating chicken from his diet and just using a single protein and carb to start narrowing down what is causing our dog's chronic GI inflammation. I saw Dr. Shafer for a gallbladder surgical consult after MU recommended surgery but my internist here recommended waiting. If I could give no stars I would. She was just so extremely inappropriate and uncaring. She wanted to lecture me about how we have been choosing doctors and never once even asked about my dog's pain. When the doctor cares more about the customer's choice of doctors than they care about the patient, there is something deeply wrong here. I explained to her that sticking to one doctor isn't always simple. I told her that we've recently moved, had a change of dog ownership within our family, had disagreements between our primary care doc and internist, so we got a second opinion, etc. Dr Shafer just cared about scolding and placing blame in the most absurdly patronizing and inaccurate way possible. She actually argued back when I told her it wasn't that simple, and she said "no but you can choose who your doctor is", as if to really highlight that it was my fault (even when the dog wasn't mine and was my family member's) that we've switched doctors (which hasn't even been a valid problem). Arguing with Dr Shafer and justifying our decision to get a second opinion on one occasion, explaining that we had to switch docs bc we moved, etc is not even remotely close to an appropriate way to spend a $300 consult with a surgeon, and it's hard not to feel ripped off after this. Plus, she's just wrong. Our neurologist wanted us to do a 1.5 Tesla MRI, and we switched neurologists to get our dog a 3 Tesla MRI. This was of course better for our dog. Staying with one doc is not always best for our dog, it truly is not that simple, and arguing with a doctor about this during what was SUPPOSED to be a surgical consult is wildly inappropriate. Again, Dr. Shafer never even asked about my dog's pain. This is horrible and inexcusable on several levels 1.) gallbladder problems are widely known to be possibly painful to extremely painful conditions in dogs and humans, 2.) My dog has struggled with gallbladder issues for months and that should prompt any decent doc to ask about pain, 3.) I reported to the tech that my dog is showing signs of having a lot of pain, and 4.) when I made the appt I told them my dog wakes up in the middle of night in quite a bit of pain/discomfort and we are not sleeping through the nights. On top of this surgeon not helping or even caring about the dog's pain, they'll test how you can deal with their doctor's absurdly offensive and inappropriate behavior. Unfortunately, I do not recommend the surgical department at Desert Veterinary Medical Specialists. She is simply not a serious doctor when she'd rather discuss how you choose your doctors than discuss your dog's pain. read more

I have NEVER been so frustrated with a vet before. They are the absolute WORST to get in contact with and trying to schedule. I submitted a stupid form online only to not receive a call back for DAYS. I called three times in one day to get NO CALL BACK. I called and left voicemails BEGGING for them to text me or email me so we can plan something for my dog to get in since my primary vet recommended them. Now they finally texted yesterday but have not ANSWERED any of my text or calls and continue to call at arbitrary times leaving condensing voicemails about "it's hard to schedule through text" when my question is clear. DO YOU HAVE APPOINTMENT IF SO WHEN. So so so rude. So unprofessional. Do not recommend. Even MY VET tried contacting them and said to just go elsewhere now. I wanted to go here. Our Jack Russell Terrier-izer Reggie, has been ultra-healthy his entire life (he'll be 11 on Valentine's Day). We visited his regular vet, the outstanding Dr. Bourne at Quartz Mtn. Vet, who referred us to Dr. Aguirre and Salt River Veterinary due to significant respiratory issues. Little did we know that Dr. Aguirre is a diagnostic device innovator, textbook author, and renowned expert in his field--and right here in our community. Dr. Aguirre performed an endoscopic procedure, obtained multiple biopsies, and has personally contacted me twice in the past 48 hours, post-procedure, in addition to calls from his medical assistants, inquiring about Reggie's recovery (which is going great). He thoroughly explained our options pre-procedure as well as possible outcomes and our alternatives. He answered each and every question thoroughly and helped us understand the significance of Reggie's issues. Dr. Aguirre also had images from other similar procedures to help us understand what he recommended for diagnostics and treatment. He went as far above and beyond as possible to allay our stress and our concerns. It would be impossible to say enough great things about Dr. Aguirre and his team at Salt River Veterinary Specialists. Starting with his technician, Rosa, who always makes me feel like my pets are well cared for when they are in her hands and most recently with his technician, Brian, who made me feel like my (sometimes difficult) kitty was shown so much affection during his visit. The whole team is always very polite and helpful. Dr. Aguirre is one of the smartest, but incredibly humble veterinarians and people I have encountered. You can always count on him to impart his knowledge regarding you pet's health conditions and explain his thought process in diagnosing and treating them. He explains things clearly and has a calm, caring bedside manner. He is one of the best, without a doubt! Our a French Bulldog Zoey was referred to Dr Agurrie for an endoscopy because of breathing and stomach issues. The results were as follows Patient: Species: Breed: Sex: Color: Weight Salt River Veterinary Specialists 9953 N. 95th Street, Suite 105 Scottsdale, AZ 85258 (480) 819-8630 Zoey Canine Bulldog, French Spayed Female Brindle 12.5 kilograms 1) Lymphoplasmacytic enteritis 2) Mild crypt abscesses 3) Endoscopy for chronic intermittent vomiting 4) Hiatal hernia 5) Laryngeal collapse 6) Everted laryngeal saccules 7) History of mast cell tumors At no time did Dr Aguirre provide referral for Zoey to obtain a surgical consult even though she has a laryngeal collapse issues 5,6. As her condition worsens I repeatedly request a surgical consult to no avail. I am final told their surgeon is unavailable and to seek a referral from her primary vet. I can not even express how frustrating it is to try and work with this group. Stay away from them. read more

My dog developed a tumor in his bladder and was having extreme difficulty urinating. Dr. Aguirre performed an ultrasound and stated he needed to immediately install a ureteral stent, to save my dog's life. He stated that my dog would be "peeing normally" by the end of the day when I came back to pick him up, so I agreed to the $3,225 operation. After the operation, I noticed a vet assistant was outside with my dog and my dog was still straining to urinate. When I informed Dr. Aguirre of this, he stated that my dog had just went "pee like a race horse" and maybe he just didn't have any liquids in him when I saw him outside. He then later showed me an ultrasound video of before and after and it showed no obstructions and urine exiting the bladder correctly. The next day, still no improvement, but was told to wait a week. I then took my dog back the next week, as zero improvement. Upon this evaluation, Dr. Aguirre stated that he misread the initial ultrasound - that my dog had a much larger tumor than he originally thought. He also stated in hindsight, he should have installed a longer stent. When I asked about having another operation, he stated he would need to charge me another $3,225. He then stated if nothing was done, my dog would not die from the urethra obstruction. I asked about the ultrasound video he showed to me when I came to pick up my dog -- which showed no obstructions. He told me the video was of another dog and that he showed me the video, so that I could see the results of a successful operation. He made me think originally the video I was watching was of my dog. To make matters worse, Dr. Aguirre charged my credit card $85 for this office visit, for him to tell me he was very sorry that he performed the operation incorrectly and misread the ultrasound. A few months after this ordeal, my dog died. I felt I was entitled to full refund of the $3,225 for his gross incompetence. We waited about a month to get into Dr. Aguirre, cause supposedly he was great. My dog had been having breathing issues and a multitude of problems for over a year. From severe Sleep Apnea, to infection after infection - skin and GI, and more. Both my regular vets and also the vet dermatologist recommended taking him to an internal med doctor, as they both felt all of this was related in some way. Well, Dr. Aguirre dismissed all the problems as separate and said follow up with blood work in a month or two. My poor pup continued to have problems, also 2 more emergency visits over the course of the past 3 months since we saw Dr. Aguirre. I suspected nasal cancer and my CO local vet did as well and referred me to CSU, where it took us a month to get in. Dr. Aguirre obviously didn't properly examine my dog. My pup is at CSU in Fort Collins Colorado having surgery for anal cancer and also radiation for a nasal tumor which is completely blocking his airway on one side. The CSU internal med vet diagnosed him within 10 minutes of physically examining him and doing a simple aspiration. The nasal cancer was likely existent and growing for over a year, according to CSU's internal med vet. Dr Aguirre didn't properly physically examine my dog and did not do the proper tests. Dr. Aguirre is so egotistical and full of himself, that he wouldn't even pick up the phone to call me to discuss his case. After a multitude of calls from me to his office - being put on hold for long times, I would be given the run around and back and forth with his staff. Telling me that Dr. Aguirre sees patients around the world and doesn't have time to call and speak with his clients. What I would say to anyone considering this Dr., is save your money, your time and your dogs life by steering clear of this guy. He may be good in a life threatening emergency - but he is a zero in figuring anything out beyond basics. And, BTW - he is too good to look at anyone else's work - he wants to do all of his own. Take your dog to where they actually care, are knowledgeable and where they take time to thoroughly review the facts (CSU Teaching hospital in Fort Collins) - maybe Dr. Aguirre should go back to school there. I wasted precious time, not to mention the tens of thousands of dollars to get a $200 answer in 5 minutes @ CSU. An answer I should have been given by Dr. Aguirre in late March 2021. Dr Aguirre is a cruel and emotionless vet and his bedside manner is AWFUL. He cavalierly stated during my poor angel's final day "well, I have orders in place to keep me from getting like this", instead of being direct or kind (or professional) about the fact that my dog was dying from kidney failure while I was crying on the phone with him to try to get advice. This place is all about money. He regularly took multiple days to return desperate phone calls to their office while my poor dog starved to death, never recommended any changes to her diet despite knowing he was seeing my dog for kidney failure and generally failed to fill us in on the "Why" for anything he did, despite several visits and over $1000 in blood tests and meds. My dog's condition only got worse after seeing him and so did mine, because it was so clear Dr Aguirre doesn't care at all about his patients. The cherry on top was the reminder call for an appointment I asked Dr Aguirre to cancel, days AFTER he told me to end my angel's suffering. Dr Aguirre also doesn't work Fridays, so if you have any kind of an emergency with a sick dog from Thursday night on, you are out of luck until at least Monday, IF the vet decides or remembers to call you back. This office and experience were gutting. If you care about your pets and want a vet specialist that does too, take them somewhere else. Dr Aguirre is too busy to care about doing a good job. We were referred to Dr. Dale Aguirre by East Maryland Animal Hospital for an ultrasound because our Miniature Schnauzer, Calvin, had elevated liver levels. Dr. Aguirre misdiagnosed a growth or tumor in Calvin's liver, and referred us to Vet Med, Dr. Radlinsky, for surgery. Calvin did not survive the surgery performed by Dr. Radlinsky. Lab test results showed there was no cancer, only possible scar tissue. Calvin could have lived several more healthy and happy years had it not been for the misdiagnosis and surgery. This has been heartbreaking and expensive. Between the three veterinary practices involved, this tragedy cost us over $8,000. Always get a second opinion for anything invasive. read more

My dog has Transitional Cell Carcinoma in the bladder and had undergone laser surgery in the past, which had bought her extra time. She has amazingly survived with a good quality of life for almost 3 years with this disease. The surgery which had helped her in the past is known as Ultasound-Guided Endoscopic Laser Ablation (UGELAB) and it can help to "debulk" bladder tumors when there is no other surgical option aside from stints or other more invasive treatments. Previously I had to drive to other states to get this done, as I was unaware it was performed by Dr. Aguirre at Salt River Veterinary. Recently my dog was unable to pee and I thought that would be the end of her luck. After a difficult time for her at an emergency hospital (which did their best for her), I was just about to arrange in home euthanasia, which under the circumstances may not have even been possible. However I called another Vet who is familiar with my dog's case, and I was given Dr. Aguirre's information. Dr. Aguirre agreed to see her the next day, which was very fortunate for my dog. Though the tumor had plugged her urethra which caused her blockage, it was possible to remove the portion of the tumor causing the blockage using a laser (she was lucky that the tumor was not much attached to the the urethra, but growing into it, with a bunch of blood clots). The hope was that removing the portion of the tumor plugging her urethra would allow her to urinate normally again for some time, though with the knowledge that if successful, it could provide some relief but not a cure (the tumor being cancerous). I decided to try the surgery with the hope that it could buy her a bit more time at best and comfort at least (since by that time she was miserable and peeing through a tube). Despite some early difficulties, she has recovered very well since the procedure and is already back to her old self. I have no illusions that the cancer will get her, but she has beaten the odds to this point and was pretty miserable before. Today we went to the park and I could not believe that just a few days ago I was about to have to let her go in a miserable state. Seeing how well she bounced back from the procedure I am sure we did the right thing in this case. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Aguirre and Salt River Veterinary Specialists. I have met with many excellent vets in the course of my dog's illness and consider Dr. Aguirre one of the best. read more

Everyone has told me about how GREAT Dr. Aguirre is. I was/am in need of help with my Frenchie and needed a second opinion as I'm not sure he has been diagnosed correctly. He has several problems, so it's not easy. But he is going downhill fast and I've been trying for over a week to call. They don't answer phones....period. If you're lucky maybe, just maybe you can leave a message, but those are not returned. Beware, if they don't answer the phones and don't return phone calls how will you ever know if your animal is OK if surgery was done, because you can't get through to find out, nor do I think they would bother calling to let you know. Inexcusable to not answer your phones, you're a business and a doctor, for goodness sake answer your phones! read more

we decided to try this vet because it was located close to our home. we took a sick cat there and were immediately uncomfortable with the place but couldn't put a finger on it exactly. we were put in a room and the dr came in and didn't introduce himself. he glanced at the cat and then left. an assistant came in and took the cat for exam. dr came back and said it would be over $700.00 to sedate and examine mouth. we went to another vet that is doing same thing for $88.00. we will never go back and felt creeped out and ripped off by this place. absolutely pathetic read more
