Horrible breakfast. Mold on the oatmeal. Cold coffee & dirty glasses.
Julie B.

Horrible breakfast. Mild on the oatmeal. Dirty glasses for the OJ. Coffee was cold. The carriage house kitchen was lacking many things to cook a meal. No knives, spatulas and serving utensils. Pots and pans are gross. They need to step it up for the rates they charge.

The thermostat with directions. Who needs directions on changing the temp on this thing anyway?
Tirivashe D.

I got there at about 6pm. There was no one at reception. Apparently it's self check in. My room was freezing cold so turned up the heat to about 70° with ease. The room remained freezing cold so I finally called the manager at about 11pm. The manager simply accused me of breaking the thermostat, changed the thermostat and said he didn't want to talk about it. And I just found out that there is a $100 charge for breaking a thermostat. I don't believe you can accuse a client for breaking something if the owner never proved the thermostat was working in the first place. Anyway, the manager was really rude and hung up the phone on me. It's like he puts the broken thermostat and makes sure he is not present when people move in just so he can charge the extra $100 to unsuspecting clients!

Be cautious when booking at this inn. There is no direct contact number for the property, and if…read moreyou make an incorrect reservation, you won't be able to change it. Additionally, you will be charged immediately. I tried to call the inn directly, but a third party I contacted offered no assistance other than stating they would "expedite the request." Unfortunately, no one from the inn reached out to me, and I ended up losing my money.

VISITORS BE WARNED…read more The Bed and Breakfast is under new management. They have done away with the two-course breakfast the inn is known for and replaced it with a continental breakfast that is a poorer offering than what you will get from Hampton Inn. There is now fruit, yogurt, granola, stale pastries, hard boiled eggs, juice and coffee/tea only. The communication refers to the continental breakfast as an "enhancement" when in fact it is a replacement. They are not honoring what you have booked, offering only $15 per day in return. Our breakfast out, while delicious, cost $60. The new management should have been transparent in their communication, honored what guests had booked for at least 90 days after takeover, and given notice to folks here that have booked so they could have an opportunity to make a change, if desired. When I asked for a real solution, the new manager stated only that I was "talking in circles" making me into the problem instead of taking real accountability for the misinformation they've delivered to customers. I haven't gotten away with my husband since 2021. This has left a negative stain on our getaway.

Airbnbs or bed and breakfasts are usually more our cup of tea, but the four humans of our family…read morerecently squeezed into a double queen bedroom at Hampton Inn Rutland for the camaraderie of staying with other ski team families. It was a blast and the hotel was quite pleasant for the genre (mid-range, family friendly). Pros: - There's a nice common room downstairs with a fireplace, where we were able to gather with a big group of friends and share dinner. It's also where breakfast is served in the a.m. - Breakfast service begins at 6 a.m. -- great for those who need an early start. - My kiddos love "Hotel Breakfast" as they call it, and this was no exception. There are two DIY waffle irons with lots of wonderfully unhealthy toppings; hot mini omelettes, sausage, and potatoes; muffins, bagels, toast; cold cereal and oatmeal; fruit salad and whole fruit. - We either had very quiet neighbors or the walls are reasonably well soundproofed. - There's a small, heated pool. It's hyperchlorinated as most hotel pools are, but a nice place to congregate and relax with friends after skiing. - There's a small, but adequate gym -- and a conference room should you need it. - The hotel adjoins a shopping complex that includes a Hannaford's supermarket, an Office Depot and a Michael's. Convenient for friends who had to find poster board for a school project due the following Monday. And we picked up fruit trays and dessert for our team dinner. - The hotel is dog friendly! We traveled without our pup this time, but did get to hang with some great guest canines. This is a massive plus in our book. - Beds were quite comfortable and staff were nice! Two people even dressed up as Santa and Mrs. Claus to say hello to the kids at dinner. :) Cons: - The elevator was out of order during our stay, so those of us staying on the third floor with lots of ski gear to carry up and down got a GREAT workout. - The pool is quite small, more of a cooler-than-usual hot tub than anything else -- so don't expect to swim laps. - There's no fan or ventilation in the bathroom. After four showers, it gets pretty steamy. Neutral: - It's about 30 minutes from Killington Mountain. There are more proximate, dog friendly hotels (e.g. Killington Mountain Lodge) and Airbnbs, but Hampton Inn Rutland may be better priced. - Our room temperature defaulted to 68 or 69 F. I love that it's eco-friendly and it was a good temperature for putting on ski gear -- but we usually keep our home a bit warmer than this. You can change the temperature of course, but ours kept defaulting to the cooler setting at night. - We're not big TV watchers, but for those who are, I think you need to sign in to Netflix, Disney+, etc... with your own account logins. The hotel does not have its own subscriptions. Overall, this was a great, budget-friendly place to stay with a group!

The TV is so small (estimate 36 inch ) and in the corner so far away. No fridge and when I called for ice the told me it was on a different floor but we had no ice bucket, it took them over a hour and a half to deliver one. The bathroom had terrible lighting and my wife couldn't put her makeup on. The entire suite is very old and needs a major upgrade before i stayed here again.

We had the top accommodation ( nicknamed the penthouse ) all to ourselves and at first glance, we found it to be really nice. The building itself is quite old, but the space is overall well maintained and the rooms were large as well as nice. The space had more than enough room for all of us as well as a decently sized kitchen and a living room. The amount of room we were given was more than sufficient for 8, but we were without water for the entire stay. It was revealed after we checked out that a plumber had uncovered a leak in the pipes which was why the water was failing to get to our unit at the top, but overall, it left us feeling very discouraged as we couldn't shower, wash dishes, or even flush our toilets. We were compensated $100 at the end and were allowed to use another room's shower for the second night ( not the first though since they were fully booked ), but the first night definitely felt rough as we had skiied and snowboarded all day without the ability to shower. The food for breakfast was pretty decent - I enjoyed the complementary meal both days, the first day being a buffet style and the second day being more of an order whatever you'd like due to the smaller crowd. It was pretty standard with eggs, bacon / sausage, pancakes / French toast, and a variety of juices as well as coffee. I would only not recommend the French toast as it was just like bread dipped in egg rather than having the actual flavor of French toast. Overall, I wouldn't mind booking the space again as the staff were kind enough and doing their best, but probably not with the penthouse out of fear of not having water again.

Lots and lots of history here !! I also learned that for here, the "first floor" means one flight up from the lobby, and the "first floor" is NOT on the ground floor nor where the lobby is. Learn something new everyday. In fact, this inn does not appear to have rooms on the ground floor or where the lobby is, but if they do, I just don't know where that would be. The dining room, kitchen and bar appear to be what exists on the main floor. Regardless of all that, our room upstairs was beautifully appointed and spacious, and our king-size bed with its fluffy pillows was so inviting and comfortable. It was beautiful !! We slept so very well. I wish we had booked for more than one night. Our room rate included a warm-cooked breakfast the next morning. For an additional fee, we ate our dinner at the Vic Tavern, as well. (Those will be reviewed under the Vic Tavern.) The owners were very nice and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed speaking with them and staying at their inn. We'd come back here in a heartbeat, so if we are ever fortunate enough to return to Vermont, we'd easily return to Woodstock and this lovely B&B.

We had room 2 which has its own private deck and living area. Really enjoyed the deck. The biggest issue was the bathroom was tiny. My wife found it impossible to shave in the shower and the sink was so small I couldn't fill a water bottle, even if tilted. The road noise might annoy some people as well.
