I ordered some guacamole to go with my chips for a starter. I enjoyed it, but, a word of caution--their guacamole has more jalapeños in it than most Mexican restaurants I've been to all over America. Still, I liked it and ate it all. For the main course I went off the reservation, ordering something that wasn't on the menu, cheese enchiladas. I chose the green tomatillo sauce and the enchiladas were better than most. I'm a bit spoiled, coming from San Diego where the Mexican food is authentic, but this was definitely better than most places make. It's got a beautiful mural on the wall. I personally wouldn't have chosen to have the large TV playing MMA bouts, but it wasn't my restaurant.

The soft tacos are flavorful but on the small size. Some of the entrees are a little pricey but portions are large. My beverage of choice was the aqua de Pina. The chip salsa was mild but ok. The servers are very attentive and polite. They are connected to the grocery next door where you'll find more items like tamales, chicharrones, grilled ribs and more!

My wife and I were in town for a soccer match (winners!) and needed a late lunch. Our normal go-to…read morespot in Seymour, Larrison's Diner, was closed because it was after 2:00 in the afternoon so we needed something new. Our first choice was a little fish sandwich shop that looked a bit different, but after they turned out to be closed that day we went across the street to San Marcos. And holy heck am I glad we did! It looks like a typical Mexican place inside - bright colors, decor from the same restaurant supply store every Mexican restaurant seems to use, but with the addition of what I would consider the 'nightclub section' with a dance floor, multiple lighting effects and a big video board. It was early afternoon, so obviously that area wasn't in use but I bet it's an interesting place after dark! Service was great - quick to the table, easy refills on everything. My wife ordered the Chimichanga and I went against my norms and did the 'create your own' platter and chose three items: Burrito, Chimi, and another Chimi. This was strategic because USUALLY when you see a 'create your own' that means tiny sized items - half a burrito, half a chimi, etc. - figured I wanted more chimi than burrito. Seems they don't do that here. My platter was HUGE. Full-sized beef burrito, delish. TWO full-sized beef chimichangas. Also delish. Plus beans and rice. I even did something I never do: Asked for a box to take an entire chimichanga home with us. Wife loved hers as well. This is a must-repeat. In fact, Larrison's may be the past and this place is my future the next time I'm in Seymour. Which is likely never, but if we are anywhere nearby, we'd make a side trip to eat here again.

If we lived in Seymour I'd be here weekly. To start, the chips were just made and the accompanying salsa had a delightfully different flavor. Together just perfect. I had the Shrimp Vera Cruz which was shrimp and sliced potatoes in a nicely spiced red sauce and served with a salad and rice. My wife ordered the Carnitas Street Tacos served with rice and refried beans. The carnitas were perfectly grilled. The taco shells were also so fresh. Our server was very attentive and friendly throughout our meal.

My wife and I have been coming here off-and-on for 13 years. Needless to say, it's up and down…read more We dined this past Friday, February 13th at this location. The service took forever. We sat for 25 minutes before our order was taken. We waited another 45 minutes for our food to arrive. The server (older gentleman with parted salt and pepper hair, chubby guy) simply slammed our plates on the table and left. The food was cold and had obviously died in the window (this allows for foodborne illnesses to populate). He didnt come back for quite some time. We were so hungry that we ate the cold and subpar food. Long after our plates sat on the table, he stopped by. I was polite and told him the food was cold. He then got mad and started blaming us. He told me that I should have made him aware, and he responded by telling me I didnt let him know. My response was "you didn't come back".....and wow did he get mad. He slammed the table and told me to talk to the cashier. Come to find out, the cashier is the female owner. She was very rude and refused to make things right while displaying zero integrity whatsoever, but offered us a discount on our next visit (isn't going to happen, they couldn't run my credit card fast enough and shove us out the door). The server was at the host stand and started talking smack about us (thinking we dont know Spanish). Once my wife stepped back in to the restaurant and looked at him, he shut up quickly. If you read reviews you will notice a trend. When things are great, they are great. When they drop the ball, they become combative and refuse to take ownership and accountability for their failures as an establishment. What a terrible way to represent the El Nopal brand. We will never be back. Save your money for a restaurant that displays passion on a consistent basis. If you want Mexican food, go to a different restaurant that upholds traditional Mexican values instead of completely disrespecting their own culture and values with their poor representation. The one good thing during our visit was the band. They were fun!

The granddaughter was our server, and she was very helpful to us explaining the dishes. I asked about the drinks, pineapple water in particular, and she offered to give me a sample taste. I ordered the largest they had. Oh, did I mention they make their drinks? They also offer a variety of sodas. The menu is homemade and very good. I had sopes, something I had never tried. Wonderful. The meal starts with chips, salsa and guacamole. The salsa and guacamole are homemade with a little kick. A variety of squirt on sauces come for the meal. I prefer the crema, but there is also green sauce or red sauce. If that isn't enough there or hot sauces where the napkins are kept. My husband had three steak tacos, and he liked them. I have eaten at many Mexican restaurants over the years, but this one had that homey feel. The menu has pictures and the prices are very affordable. I know we will be back. The dress code is informal, casual. This restaurant is downtown in Seymour and according to the granddaughter they have been there for twelve years.
