This studio has great dancers. The owner, he needs to communicate with members. I bought a year long membership and since the pandemic, I received one email in April saying that our membership contracts will be extended. No more emails from the studio. I drove by the physical studio and it's no longer there. No email informing members that the studio closed down. No way to access online classes, I'm not even sure if there are online classes. The website's last COVID -19 update is dated 3/16/2020. I had to find out on YouTube that the physical studio is no longer and all classes are going virtual. Where can I access these classes? The link on the website says "online classes coming soon". I hope the owner reads this and becomes more transparent on all platforms. read more

To me this isn't the type of place you take lessons for if you are bored and want to try something new but aren't really planning on committing to it. In that case I would recommend the lessons at Azuca or anywhere else. If you are actually serious about learning how to dance salsa then this is the place you need to go. Semeneya is the best salsa studio in San Antonio and I don't think many would argue against that. Everyone that is in the salsa scene knows about it even if they are ambivalent towards it. The instructors are excellent and are friendly. It is very helpful and efficient that the classes are broken up into levels. I got up to level 3 and felt that the classes really improved my dancing. I think these classes are more important for guys that need to learn how to lead as opposed to girls. I feel like Semeneya does a good job of teaching guys how to be good leads which makes a huge difference while dancing with someone. Once you learn how to be a good follower you mostly just need practice. I like that they changed locations because it was really inconvenient to get all the way to the Northeast side of town where they were before. Semeneya people are like the cool kids of the salsa world so don't expect them to dance with you if you go to their socials or see them out at the salsa clubs. The guys only ask certain girls to dance and I'm sure the girls are the same. read more

This is the place to go if you want to learn Latin dance. You don't need a partner to take a lesson. I remember my first time. I was this awkward guy who had never danced in his life. I had never tried any sort of dancing. The instructors are patient and work with any level. They have a lot of times and options for taking lessons. You can take a group lesson or private. I'm sure you will come out an improved dancer with whatever you chose. Give it a chance, you won't be disappointed. It's going to be a great adventure where you can grow and make amazing friends. read more

Took a Salsa boot camp some time ago, had lots of fun and met all sorts of people, Lee was a great instructor and the studio has many fun social events to join them at. I highly recommend learning salsa here. read more

I was taken there by surprise for my birthday so it was almost a year ago... but I will say it was quite fun! I'm from Puerto Rico, so dancing salsa is in our blood and pedigree lol... the instructor took keen interest in my dancing cause he noticed I'm from out of town and dance street style salsa... it was way fun and I'm looking forward to going back asap! read more

A group of us attended the 'I Love Freestyle' concert on 5/25/19 at Semenaya. We arrived around 7:30 PM but there wasn't enough people to check us in so we had to wait awhile. Once we got through that, went to the restroom and there were several urinals that were out of order and covered with garbage bags. The restroom didn't look clean either. Thereafter, we all went to get a drink. Semenaya was charging $5.00 for soda/water, $10.00 for a bottle of beer & $15.00 for a single mixed drink in what looked like a dixie cup. This is what you would call price gouging. I've been to many concert events but never have I seen drink prices so high at a venue and this wasn't even a nice one. From what I understand, after the fact, Semenaya was supposed to offer some drink specials from 7 - 9 but they didn't so this leads me to believe that they were pocketing money. Our tickets were in the VIP area. The set up was awkward where tables were placed right in front of the stage so those of us that had to stand up, had to stand up behind tables & had to move every time someone at the table got up. The VIP area was so hot that people were fanning themselves. It became unbearable so I approached employees that worked for Semenaya multiple times about the temperature but they acted like they didn't care. They also didn't do anything about it. One employee made the comment that it wasn't hot but they weren't even in working in that area. Another one blamed the lights which I was told was part of the venue. Not only was it hot, the lights were blinding and you couldn't even see the artists performing. The sound was also bad. After standing & sweating in the VIP area for 4 hours and dealing with the heat, bad lighting & poor sound, we left. We weren't the only ones who left either. I wouldn't recommend attending any concert event at this venue. They didn't seem to care how people felt and tried to blame the promoter, which they had nothing to do with everything that I mentioned above. I imagine the artists that performed were also very hot on stage as well. It's unfortunate that this venue & its staff ruined this experience for us. We even drove from out of town to attend this event. We will definitely not come back. Shame on the owner of this venue. It seems to me, the owner was worried more about making & saving money than focusing on customer service. read more

Semeneya is definitely a great dance studio! I've gone here for about 1 1/2 years and feel like my dancing has improved immensely in a short amount of time. The best thing about the studio is that they provide something for every level of dancing and focus on improving the quality of the dance scene in San Antonio! Though I can attend level 5 classes, I can still improve the quality of my dancing in Level 1 classes! If your looking for an interactive, passionate, and friendly dance scene that you sometimes don't find at dance clubs, I definitely recommend Semeneya!! read more

Heard so much about this place and finally checked it out. Instruction is fantastic. They really break down the steps and repeat things so you get it. Instructors are very nice. Staff - I wouldn't say they bend over backwards customer service wise but they answer your questions and get the job done. Heavy Spanish speaking by instructors (they do Spanglish) and many of patrons so I would imagine you feel a bit of an outsider if you don't speak it (I do but don't look like I should). Like most things, if you go regularly and practice, you'd end up a pretty fantastic dancer or at least much improved with classes here. read more

Learned a lot in two months and continue to progress. Large classes are held in small areas and can be a problem. Socials are awesome.

Enjoy the classes and the instructors taking turns dancing with you helps. The mini socials afterwards helps putting what you learned to practice. Everyone is cool and non judgmental. read more

Semeneya has been one of my best experiences since moving to San Antonio. I used to live in the Dallas area and loved to salsa dance, but they have nothing like Semeneya. Not only the classes, but all the friends and the community have been a major reason I love living in San Antonio. It's a like a 2nd family for me. I love Semeneya! read more

The instructors here are very talented, and there are plenty of amazing dancers. However, they are not very interested in growing the SA dance scene. I used to dance all the time in the DMV (DC, MD, VA) area, and went from beginner to confident low-intermediate dancer within a year because the scene was so welcoming. Once I moved to San Antonio, it took me a few months to find a studio. I went to Semeneya socials a few times, hoping to start dancing again, but didn't feel welcome at all. The dancers only want to dance with good dancers and don't seem to get that in order to have more good dancers, you have to grow dancers by being inviting to all levels. My husband and I also attended a class, and the instructors were really rude to him because he didn't get some of the steps the second time. read more

I started attending Level 1 salsa classes this past August at Azuca on Saturday afternoons. The classes were fun and very effective. After three weeks of Level 1 I felt I had mastered the basic salsa moves and moved on to the Level 2 class. Since then I've struggled greatly with learning the more complex Level 2 moves (there are 5 levels of classes by the way). I've taken 5 level 2 classes and feel I have made little progress. The challenge as I see it is there a huge difference, a very big gap between what is taught in the Level 1 class and the Level 2 class. In the Level 1 class they teach you 5 or 6 basic salsa moves. In Level 2 they teach you a choreographed dance routine by demonstrating one move, then another, then another until they have linked 6 or 7 moves together into a single routine. The biggest challenge is that mostly all of the moves are new and each class teaches a new routine with a whole new set of moves rarely repeating anything in the other class. I readily admit I am not a good dancer and salsa dancing is out of my comfort zone but I think there are many people like me and all would find it difficult to learn and keep up. In the Level 1 class there a lot of repitition. In the Level 2 class there is very little if any repitition from one class to the next. Basically, if you don't learn it the first time, your lost. And the more moves you don't get the more lost you get and there is no opportunity to practice your weak areas. The last challenge is that I have observed many times students from the upper level classes, level 3 and level 4 participating in the level 2 class. One time I counted 10 students from the upper classes participating in a level 2 class of about 16. When this happens the instructor makes the class even more challenging and those of us who are struggling perform even worse. They need a class or method that helps bridge the gap, no chasm between the skills needed to dance at salsa level 2 versus level 1. read more

Love Semeneya dance studio, instructors are great, a fun place to meetup learn to dance and make friends. However, I would love to see improvements to the acoustics of the building which is absolutely terrible. The music played cannot be really enjoyed and followed because of very bad acoustics, echoing the music in the buildings dance area. It's also not adequately air-conditioned. Since I'm serious about learning to dance I have overlooked these deficiencies, and I think if Semeneya would improve these two issue it would really bring it up to the standard and greatness that it could be. read more
