My husband and I have been wanting to take salsa dance classes for a while, so we were super excited when a friend told us about this place! First, it's very affordable! It's around $120 for 4 weeks of classes and each class is an hour and a half long. That's a pretty sweet deal, if you ask me! Next, it's important to know that they have a class schedule that is updated monthly. They offer both salsa and bachata classes and different levels for each one. They have 5 different levels of salsa classes and 2 different levels of bachata classes. So whatever your skill level currently is, you should be able to find a class that works for you! Also, you don't need to have a partner to attend! The class starts by teaching the basic steps as individuals. When it's time for partner work, they have us start with a partner but then we rotate partners throughout the room! That said, if you're wanting a class where you stick with the same partner the entire time, this ain't it. However, if you're looking for a fun time, this is DEFINITELY it! Our instructor, Felipe, has been doing a fantastic job of teaching us! He's got a fun personality, which makes the experience that much better. Oh! They also have social dance nights each month, which you can attend whether or you're not you're a current student for a set price. Anyways, I'm excited to keep learning and taking more classes here! I recently took beginner salsa lessons here. You can sign up for a 4-week cycle but due to vacation conflicts, I took the first 2 classes with one teacher (Tyrone) and the second 2 classes with another (Omar). The format of the class focuses on learning shines for the first 45-60 minutes, a short break, and then partner work where you rotate partners. Tyrone is very technically focused - he breaks down even the most basic shines into literally every single step so you can follow along. Omar is more focused on musicality and rhythm - in his class we learned fewer shines but focused heavily on counting and being able to identify the beat. Both teachers let us film them doing the steps at the end of class so you can use it to practice on your own. The classroom is a weird L shape which I'm not a fan of. On the longer side of the classroom, there ends up being 4 rows of people (in a full class) so if you're in the back it's harder to see. My very first class also felt overcrowded but the subsequent classes had fewer people so it was a lot better. There's no AC in the studio, only a couple of fans, so it can get hot in the summer. read more

Absolutely love this Salsa studio They have the option of doing a class block where you can build up your skills from beginner to advanced. The other option are also drop in classes as you want. I really like this place a lot because they break down the classes for all levels and you get to really dance with people at your level. I absolutely love the SIQ community and will provide an in-depth review. Grab a snack because it's quite long haha! My experiences (salsa classes): Beginner 1 with Victoria (Vicki): starts from the basic (foundation) step, and introduces more elaborate/technical moves each class. Vicki is amazing. She pushes us to challenge ourselves and somehow, even when I felt there was no way I could master a step, by the end of the class I'd be gracefully executing it, and feeling so accomplished! She has a great way of working with people of all levels, and she breaks it down until *everyone* in the room feels confident. I took Beg 1 twice and learned new moves each time. There is time reserved for partnerwork (so important!) and the staff all respect your wishes (they don't assume you want to lead/follow based on gender, allow you to mix or stay with one partner during session, etc.). Beginner Partnerwork with Vicki: This class really helped me to open up and trust- to FOLLOW my partner! I always felt challenged but never overwhelmed, and Vicki had us cracking up while somehow covering everything we needed to get through each hour session. I am seriously shocked about how much I learned between this class and Beg 1 in such a short time. One-on-one with Steve: I wanted to take an individual session to assess if I should move on to Beg 2, and Adv PW, and to work on my turns. Steve is like a Mr. Miyagi of salsa hahaha! He is so calm and gave me such good tips, noting I was way too harsh on myself, and making me feel very comfortable (and less self-conscious). I left the session feeling chill- motivated and proud of my progress. Social: I attended one social and had a blast. I brought some friends and family and they all enjoyed it as well! Great DJ, the fun and fantastic SIQ family and Latin music into the night- it was perfect. The staff is always so friendly and courteous. The studio is clean (although you will sweat!) and there are lots of offerings. I am so happy I took a chance and took that first class. Coming to Salsa In Queens allowed me to partake of two things on my extensive list of things that I thoroughly enjoy...hanging out in the Astoria area of Queens (since this place is near Steinway) and dancing! Salsa in Queens is a company that has an intimately sized dance studio along with some of the loveliest dance instructors that teach a variety of classes. Yes, I like to dance and plenty of that happened in every type of class. I decided to purchase the 5 Class Package that is offered at Salsa In Queens. This particular option gives one the opportunity to take any five of their numerous Drop-In Classes. The deadline for me to take classes before my package expires is tomorrow 7/30 so I used it by 7/28. Due to my schedule, the easy decision for me was to attend 1.) Bachata Class on two separate Sundays from 2pm-3:30pm, 2.) Latin Hip Hop one Wednesday Evening from 9pm-10pm and a Saturday Salsa Class from 11am-12:30pm. Bachata Dance Instructor Vicki and Latin Hip Hop/ Salsa Dance Instructor Dabrali are so talented. Both of them use every minute of their dance classes to explain each move step-by-step while exuding patience and positive energy. They are all about making participants feel comfortable + creating a relaxed atmosphere as they have the loveliest smiles while teaching dance. Dabrali makes you work it out in her Latin Hip Hop Class and I have an even deeper appreciation for Salsa dancing. Dabrali has got me loving to Salsa dance while the song "Acid" by Ray Barretto is playing in the background. Salsa in Queens Staff ensure that you have fun while learning intricate movements/dance steps so one is provided with a nice experience. Salsa In Queens has a policy which just requires you to let them know a day or two in advance if you have to cancel your upcoming class attendance. Salsa in Queens also has dance series classes for individuals that want to commit to dancing for example on a weekly/biweekly basis. They also have dance parties at several of the local bars/businesses in the area + also create updated monthly music playlists so that people.can practice dancing to those specific songs.
