We cannot say enough amazing things about our dance instructor, Leo. We came in as complete beginners and decided to invest in a 10 pack of private lessons for our wedding first dance. It was the best decision we made. Leo choreographed our entire dance within the first three lessons, and from there he helped us fine‑tune every detail. He prepared us for different scenarios, gave us tips to make sure we always looked confident and comfortable, and made every session fun, positive and encouraging. He was also incredibly flexible and easy to work with when it came to scheduling, which made the whole experience even smoother during a busy wedding planning season. On our wedding day, our guests raved about our first dance. Multiple people told us it was the best they've ever seen and that is entirely thanks to Leo. I purchased a package of private lessons as a gift to my now wife for our wedding day. We worked with Leo who made this a fantastic experience. A little background, I am not what you would call a dance enthusiast, I am fairly shy when it comes to the dance floor and don't like attention. Leo made the experience totally comfortable and after 1 listen to our first dance song, started developing a routine that was really impressive. By the end of our sessions, I was confident to present our dance to our friends and family, and I didn't look like a total doofus on the dance floor! Leo was so great!! Thank you!! My husband and I decided last minute that we should get dance lessons for our first dance, for our wedding (back in August 2022). We booked a dance class 2 weeks before our big day, and from the start, the instructor/director Leo was kind and patient. He was so talented in making a full beautiful choreographed dance for our song "You are the Reason" after one listen. To be honest, dance is not a forte of my husband and mine. So we appreciated Leo's ability to cater to us-even adjusting it to make it easier/less confusing compared to what he originally thought we can do. We were able to take videos of our finished piece and practiced a few times a day at home, up to our wedding day. And, so many of our friends and family "ooohed and aaahed" at our dance! A dance studio where different types of dance classes are held. Belly dancing, salsa, hiphop and zumba are some of the classes. They also offer capoeira; Brazilian martial arts. I've taken different classes here and the classes are fun and ther instructors dedicated. Sometimes it feels like beginners don't get the focused help they need but it is normal in a big glass where most of everyone is a medium level or an expert. I take the capoeira class here and it is hard work and a lot of fun. The instructor loves capoeira and cares about the group. He takes time to help everyone despite their level. The group members are friendly and understanding of the different levels. It costs one dollar to try the class to see if you're interested. There are also plenty of restaurants around so you can get your energy back after the classes. =) Mera's Tip: Give capoeira a shot or get your dance shoes out and try a class. read more

Poor ethics at this place. I purchased a 3 for $30 intro package. Used 2, but when I couldn't apply the 3rd credit, went to ask. Front-desk guy said this deal had to have been used within 7 days. I told him this rule wasn't mentioned anytime during the purchase process online or after. Leonel Linares (their executive director), who was nearby, said this wasn't possible. So I showed them this was true. I created a new account in front of the front-desk guy, and took him through the process. No mention of a 7-day time frame anywhere. Hence, in a friendly manner I asked Leonel to honor the deal and let me take the 3rd class. Not only did he refuse, he said 2 for $15 is already a great deal, and that I was trying to take advantage of them. Shocked, I left. Shame, because Estefano Gil is a fantastic instructor, and I'd decided after this 3rd class to start going to his classes regularly. Not only that, I was going to be bringing a friend with me (new customer for them), and had started recommending them left and right to all my dance buddies. Won't now. read more

I attended my first Salsa class at Sol Dance Center! Even though it felt very awkward & vulnerable for me, the class had other beginners too which made it more comfortable! Also, the teacher was very good with his instruction & I kept my eyes on focused on his footwork the whole time! . It was especially fun when the music was playing! Amazing dance location! What a great way to learn how to dance! Sol Dance center is a quaint studio space located in the heart of Astoria. The wife and I came for an elite event and the event completely blew us away! The instructors gave us a dance demo and afterwards opened up the space for us to free dance. I have ALWAY had an issue with moving my hips when I dance bachata. It's maybe an Asian thing, I dunno- but for the first time in my life I was actually able to move my hips appropriately! This was all thanks to the awesome instructor there who taught be how to pop my hip at the transition step. VERY LEGIT!!! The place is incredibly clean, the staff is amazingly friendly, and I feel this will transform any neophyte to dancing Latin dancing machines! Bathroom- yes Parking- meter/ municipal and cross your fingers! Love it or dump it Absolutely love it and would highly recommend for anyone looking to shake your booty! read more

I was a dancer my whole life and always hoped that my kids would enjoy it as well. My daughter is autistic and never did well with loud noise, new things and large groups of people. However, her Sol Dance Center was very understanding and accommodating when she started there. Her dance instructor was patient yet stern with her, and did not treat her any different from the other children. He has helped her feel more confident every lesson. We had 4 weeks until our wedding and had nothing prepared in the way of choreography for our first dance. We booked a private lesson with Leo the owner and showed him the song we were considering. Within minutes, he already had an idea of what moves to apply to which parts of the song. He had patience with us as we started to learn the various steps, and tweaked the routine over time as he saw what worked and what didn't work. We ended up going back for 3 additional lessons until we had the entire song choreographed. The big day came up and everyone loved our first dance! Family members had tears in their eyes and came up to us and told us how much they enjoyed it, and how intricate and graceful it was. Highly recommend Leo and the whole team at Sol. This review is based solely on the belly dance classes I took with Irina Kom. It was amazing! I love her tribal fusion style and superb techniques. It was very easy to follow and she gives clear instructions step by step. She teaches Mondays 7 pm for beginners class and 8 pm for advanced beginners/intermediate. Group classes are $15 for single class, $120 for 10 classes, $165 for 15 classes and $200 for 20 classes. Private lessons are $90 per session. Tips: 1. If you drive, it's mostly metered parking. 2. Really skilled instructor. Took a one hour last minute class for first dance at our wedding. The instructor was so knowledgeable and was able to choreograph as we practiced. The routine he came up with was easy enough that we were able to remember. I enrolled my 3 yr old into the summer intensive program after she had been begging me to start dance school. From the second I walked in everyone greeted us with open arms and made my lil one feel so comfortable. They gave her so much confidence. The Instructors there from Miss Clo, Miss Karla, Miss Susana, Miss Anika and Miss Liz encouraged her to flourish and treated her with so much patience, gave her so much support, and just made her feel loved. She woke up every morning wanting more and more. The management staff (Miss Chey) was also very informative and so helpful. Watching the kids work so hard and to accomplish so much in such little time was so amazing to witness. I came in as a stranger and left being part a family. Person at the reception's way to dealing with prospect was to hand over some pamphlet and hurriedly went back to her phone. I asked a question, to which her response was "it's all there" barely getting her eyes from her phone. My old school idea that people not be on their mobiles during their jobs aside, I strongly felt that I was was nuisance, so unwelcomed. And this is before they take my money. I wonder how they treat their customers once the money is paid. Maybe their classes are so good that they simply need to turn business away. I will be missing out on the great classes because I am completely turned off by today's experience. I went to Sol Dance Center last night and took a two hour group Salsa class (Intermediate Beginner) and it was awesome. I paid $25 for the drop in class. This studio is great because it's not too far from my apartment and it's really cheap. As for the class, the instructor was great, he was a good teacher. I had taken Salsa lessons before so my experience definitely helped but I have to point out that this was hands down the best salsa class I've taken thus far. I learned so much in the two hours. Usually I'm either disappointed at dance classes because the instructor doesn't challenge me but this one was the opposite. I was so happy with it I signed up for twenty classes and paid $200 for it. read more

As someone who possesses no rhythm and lacks coordination, I never thought it possible I would manage to get the very basic foundational moves for Salsa dancing. Luckily for me, I had a private lesson with my date, with dance teacher, Anika, who provided plenty of support and showed me countless times how to manage each move and step. It was amazing that by the end of the one hour private dance lesson I felt it possible that I can actually feel comfortable and not so "robotic" and have a desire to take more lessons. Really friendly people and cute place! The choreographer (forgot her name) but it was for a teen jazz class, was really nice and great at teaching! However, the actually choreography to the class was quite boring and really only for their upcoming show. Not a good place for drop-ins not is it for you if you want to learn actual jazz dance that will be a bit challenging. There is no place for unruly parents and unnecessary drama and stress. Lollinez's exodus was welcomed by all, just a shame that her child is now going to be deprived from a wonderful, strong, learning environment. Nicole Nunez is an excellent instructor, thanks to her excellent teaching skills my 5 year old was able to perform in a show after only 3 weeks of joining. My daughter has been attending since the beginning of this year and has learned so much and looks forward to her class every week.
