I purchased a package of private lessons as a gift to my now wife for our wedding day. We worked with Leo who made this a fantastic experience. A little background, I am not what you would call a dance enthusiast, I am fairly shy when it comes to the dance floor and don't like attention. Leo made the experience totally comfortable and after 1 listen to our first dance song, started developing a routine that was really impressive. By the end of our sessions, I was confident to present our dance to our friends and family, and I didn't look like a total doofus on the dance floor! He even included a lift that made the attendees applaud. We are very thankful to Leo for his talents and making the experience completely comfortable. It was absolutely confidence builder for me, I can't recommend Leo enough. Also, the routine he developed for us photographed really well, I am so happy with this experience. read more

Sol Dance Center - Dance Schools Near Me - Astoria, New York

My fiancé (now husband) and I worked with Leo at Sol Dance Center on a surprise bachata for our wedding first dance. We did five private lessons and it was a HIGHLIGHT of our wedding night. Leo was so incredible to work with, creating a dance that we felt confident and excited about. We couldn't recommend Leo at Sol more! read more

I have come here for a dance class in the past. It has decent space, but can feel a bit crowded if there are many people attending the class. read more

Took a group Heels dance class here once. We did a short choreo to Britney Spears "Toxic." It was fun to learn a little choreo, dance to a popular song, and practice my dance moves in an easy, supportive setting. The instructor was nice and encouraging. Nice to have a dance studio in Astoria with different styles and classes to try on a Drop in schedule. read more

Leo was so great!! Thank you!! My husband and I decided last minute that we should get dance lessons for our first dance, for our wedding (back in August 2022). We booked a dance class 2 weeks before our big day, and from the start, the instructor/director Leo was kind and patient. He was so talented in making a full beautiful choreographed dance for our song "You are the Reason" after one listen. To be honest, dance is not a forte of my husband and mine. So we appreciated Leo's ability to cater to us-even adjusting it to make it easier/less confusing compared to what he originally thought we can do. We were able to take videos of our finished piece and practiced a few times a day at home, up to our wedding day. And, so many of our friends and family "ooohed and aaahed" at our dance! It was so fun to perform. Thanks again Leo!! read more

A dance studio where different types of dance classes are held. Belly dancing, salsa, hiphop and zumba are some of the classes. They also offer capoeira; Brazilian martial arts. I've taken different classes here and the classes are fun and ther instructors dedicated. Sometimes it feels like beginners don't get the focused help they need but it is normal in a big glass where most of everyone is a medium level or an expert. I take the capoeira class here and it is hard work and a lot of fun. The instructor loves capoeira and cares about the group. He takes time to help everyone despite their level. The group members are friendly and understanding of the different levels. It costs one dollar to try the class to see if you're interested. There are also plenty of restaurants around so you can get your energy back after the classes. =) Mera's Tip: Give capoeira a shot or get your dance shoes out and try a class. read more

Poor ethics at this place. I purchased a 3 for $30 intro package. Used 2, but when I couldn't apply the 3rd credit, went to ask. Front-desk guy said this deal had to have been used within 7 days. I told him this rule wasn't mentioned anytime during the purchase process online or after. Leonel Linares (their executive director), who was nearby, said this wasn't possible. So I showed them this was true. I created a new account in front of the front-desk guy, and took him through the process. No mention of a 7-day time frame anywhere. Hence, in a friendly manner I asked Leonel to honor the deal and let me take the 3rd class. Not only did he refuse, he said 2 for $15 is already a great deal, and that I was trying to take advantage of them. Shocked, I left. Shame, because Estefano Gil is a fantastic instructor, and I'd decided after this 3rd class to start going to his classes regularly. Not only that, I was going to be bringing a friend with me (new customer for them), and had started recommending them left and right to all my dance buddies. Won't now. read more

Very friendly and welcoming atmosphere! Had no problems just signing up and attending as a beginner. The instructor was great.

Amazing dance location! What a great way to learn how to dance! Sol Dance center is a quaint studio space located in the heart of Astoria. The wife and I came for an elite event and the event completely blew us away! The instructors gave us a dance demo and afterwards opened up the space for us to free dance. I have ALWAY had an issue with moving my hips when I dance bachata. It's maybe an Asian thing, I dunno- but for the first time in my life I was actually able to move my hips appropriately! This was all thanks to the awesome instructor there who taught be how to pop my hip at the transition step. VERY LEGIT!!! The place is incredibly clean, the staff is amazingly friendly, and I feel this will transform any neophyte to dancing Latin dancing machines! Bathroom- yes Parking- meter/ municipal and cross your fingers! Love it or dump it Absolutely love it and would highly recommend for anyone looking to shake your booty! read more

I attended my first Salsa class at Sol Dance Center! Even though it felt very awkward & vulnerable for me, the class had other beginners too which made it more comfortable! Also, the teacher was very good with his instruction & I kept my eyes on focused on his footwork the whole time! . It was especially fun when the music was playing! I plan on attending more classes & I am sure the confidence will grow & the fun will increase too!! Next up Bachata!! read more

My first time taking a class there, and the atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming. I also live very close by

The classes were easy to follow but a great workout at the same time and the instructors were very friendly and knowledgeable. Seriously, loved the salsa class and the Fit dance Brazilian funk classss! read more

I was a dancer my whole life and always hoped that my kids would enjoy it as well. My daughter is autistic and never did well with loud noise, new things and large groups of people. However, her Sol Dance Center was very understanding and accommodating when she started there. Her dance instructor was patient yet stern with her, and did not treat her any different from the other children. He has helped her feel more confident every lesson. She is truly coming out of her shell and enjoys dance more then ever. read more

Love this space, but it can get very very hot in there! Staff is friendly and bathrooms are clean. Used to take Fierce2Fit classes here when those were offered in Astoria, but I know the studio offers ballet classes for kids and some Latin ballroom classes, among others. read more

We had 4 weeks until our wedding and had nothing prepared in the way of choreography for our first dance. We booked a private lesson with Leo the owner and showed him the song we were considering. Within minutes, he already had an idea of what moves to apply to which parts of the song. He had patience with us as we started to learn the various steps, and tweaked the routine over time as he saw what worked and what didn't work. We ended up going back for 3 additional lessons until we had the entire song choreographed. The big day came up and everyone loved our first dance! Family members had tears in their eyes and came up to us and told us how much they enjoyed it, and how intricate and graceful it was. Highly recommend Leo and the whole team at Sol. Everyone was so nice and pleasant to deal with. Thank you so much for making our big day that much more special! read more

This review is based solely on the belly dance classes I took with Irina Kom. It was amazing! I love her tribal fusion style and superb techniques. It was very easy to follow and she gives clear instructions step by step. She teaches Mondays 7 pm for beginners class and 8 pm for advanced beginners/intermediate. Group classes are $15 for single class, $120 for 10 classes, $165 for 15 classes and $200 for 20 classes. Private lessons are $90 per session. Tips: 1. If you drive, it's mostly metered parking. 2. Make sure to bring zills for your first class. read more

Really skilled instructor. Took a one hour last minute class for first dance at our wedding. The instructor was so knowledgeable and was able to choreograph as we practiced. The routine he came up with was easy enough that we were able to remember. We only had time to do one session and barely had time to practice on our own but the wedding guests thought we practiced for a long time because of the great choreography by our instructor. I found the business to be more communicative over phone than email, but it was amazing that they squeezed us in last minute. Thank you! read more

This dance studio is by far the best in NYC. Prices are super reasonable (even for students!) , class sizes are not too cramped, yet enough to feel like you're on a team, and the teachers know their stuff and are patient enough to work with you until you get it! Everyone at the studio is super friendly, and they put on events that you can go to and see the amazing Solettes perform and other hard-working student dancers as well! Thank goodness for this place. read more

Second time bringing a group of people together to take a salsa class (which ended up being Latin mix which was awesome anyway!). Carla is so friendly and rolls with whatever vibe you have going on. Patient, funny, and really helpful. Plus at $15/person for one hour, no deposit required, private class as long as you have at least 10 people-- this place is a neighborhood gem! read more

I enrolled my 3 yr old into the summer intensive program after she had been begging me to start dance school. From the second I walked in everyone greeted us with open arms and made my lil one feel so comfortable. They gave her so much confidence. The Instructors there from Miss Clo, Miss Karla, Miss Susana, Miss Anika and Miss Liz encouraged her to flourish and treated her with so much patience, gave her so much support, and just made her feel loved. She woke up every morning wanting more and more. The management staff (Miss Chey) was also very informative and so helpful. Watching the kids work so hard and to accomplish so much in such little time was so amazing to witness. I came in as a stranger and left being part a family. I definately recommend this studio for any parent looking for someplace to call home for there child where they can pursue there dreams with confidence and excellent guidance. Sol Dance Center - Melina Age 3 Summer Intensive 2016 - Dance Schools Near Me - Astoria, New York

Honestly it was the perfect space for the amount of people and now and days it's hard to find a studio that allows that. Also the front desk worker Karla Choko she was really sweet and made sure everything went smoothly. The studio itself was perfect and had everything we needed very put together. read more

Walked in to inquire about classes as it caught my attention when I was walking down the street. Person at the reception's way to dealing with prospect was to hand over some pamphlet and hurriedly went back to her phone. I asked a question, to which her response was "it's all there" barely getting her eyes from her phone. My old school idea that people not be on their mobiles during their jobs aside, I strongly felt that I was was nuisance, so unwelcomed. And this is before they take my money. I wonder how they treat their customers once the money is paid. Maybe their classes are so good that they simply need to turn business away. I will be missing out on the great classes because I am completely turned off by today's experience. If she was the teacher for what seemed to be a kid's ballet class about to start, then I'm suppose this is blessing in disguise. read more

Sol Dance Studio is a fantastic studio for every level dancer. Right in the heart of Astoria, it is easy to get to, and once you're there the atmosphere lends itself to learn how to make the right moves on the dance floor. You won't just learn the proper steps. You will learn how to incorporate those moves in real dance situations. The instructors: Karla, Anika and Jesika are friendly and patient, but won't let you get off track. If you are looking for just the right school, you owe it to yourself to give Sol Dance a try. read more

As someone who possesses no rhythm and lacks coordination, I never thought it possible I would manage to get the very basic foundational moves for Salsa dancing. Luckily for me, I had a private lesson with my date, with dance teacher, Anika, who provided plenty of support and showed me countless times how to manage each move and step. It was amazing that by the end of the one hour private dance lesson I felt it possible that I can actually feel comfortable and not so "robotic" and have a desire to take more lessons. Sol Dance Center was an amazing experience, and I would recommend it to anyone starting from very beginner like myself to more advanced dancers. read more

I went to Sol Dance Center last night and took a two hour group Salsa class (Intermediate Beginner) and it was awesome. I paid $25 for the drop in class. This studio is great because it's not too far from my apartment and it's really cheap. As for the class, the instructor was great, he was a good teacher. I had taken Salsa lessons before so my experience definitely helped but I have to point out that this was hands down the best salsa class I've taken thus far. I learned so much in the two hours. Usually I'm either disappointed at dance classes because the instructor doesn't challenge me but this one was the opposite. I was so happy with it I signed up for twenty classes and paid $200 for it. read more

In response to Lollinez P Having worked with children myself, perhaps your daughter was reacting to your reaction and to her father's cursing rant in front of everyone including all the other kids...as the other parents who know Nicole for much longer than ONE CLASS, we all watched your husband's reaction as well as yours in horror, because OUR children were watching and listening to you as well, as you pulled your child out in the middle of the class. There is no place for unruly parents and unnecessary drama and stress. Lollinez's exodus was welcomed by all, just a shame that her child is now going to be deprived from a wonderful, strong, learning environment. Nicole Nunez is an excellent instructor, thanks to her excellent teaching skills my 5 year old was able to perform in a show after only 3 weeks of joining. My daughter has been attending since the beginning of this year and has learned so much and looks forward to her class every week. As any good instructor would do, Nicole encourages the kids to try harder and do their best...my daughter loves "Miss Nicole" and the studio staff have only been professional and friendly... I would highly recommend Sol Dance if you want your child to really learn and have fun at the same time read more

I have been in this dance school for just almost 3 years and ever since i started there it already felt like home. I can be able to express myself and not be afraid of what everyone thinks of me. Really friendly people and cute place! The choreographer (forgot her name) but it was for a teen jazz class, was really nice and great at teaching! However, the actually choreography to the class was quite boring and really only for their upcoming show. Not a good place for drop-ins not is it for you if you want to learn actual jazz dance that will be a bit challenging. I even felt like I was in more of a ballet class rather than a jazz class. read more

I just pulled my 5 year old out of the children's salsa class when I realized the instructor had asked the older students to give "constructive criticism" to her after her very FIRST class. My 5 year old was in tears saying, "they didn't like my dancing. I was trying my best." A little background: My little one was excited for her first salsa class. I was excited to sign up with the studio's manager (who is very nice and professional) I inquired about the person who would be instructing the children's class. He said it would be Nicole Nunez, an "experienced dancer and teacher." The much anticipated day arrived for my daughter's class. Only to be greeted by a "children's dance instructor" who exclaims, "DAMN! There A LOT of kids here today!" in front of a bunch of children ages 5 - 9 or so. OK. So, I am an early childhood teacher of 10 years and have pretty high expectations for people who work with children. I am sometimes too critical, so I let my initial impression slide but was curious how she managed the class going forward. My daughter's father also attended to watch (he's more laxed than me) in order to help with a more objective observation. The instructor, Nicole is obviously not a professional instructor as evidenced by how quickly she moved from one step to the next with the little ones (especially those who were there for the first time). But the quintessential deal breaker was when she lined up all the older kids against the mirror to watch and "critique" the little ones--aged 5/6 or so, as they went through a piece that included at least 4 different salsa moves they were supposedly taught during this session. The kids followed the teacher through the number while the older ones looked on. When it was over, she told the older children to give "feedback" on INDIVIDUAL students. My little girl was thrown to the wolves!!! It was evident that the older kids weren't really sure what they should be saying (The instructor NEVER considered that they didn't really know how to give feedback in a way that was not going to bring a 5 year old to tears?!!!) As my daughter stood there scared and exposed, listening attentively to negative feedback, the teacher stated to my daughter: "Yep! That's right!!! You need to take NOTES on this feedback so you can do better next time!!!!" WHAT? As I stood by in horror, I noticed that the instructor was NOT done with my little one--she asks ANOTHER child to also give her "constructive feedback." At this point, I push open the door and grab my child out of this mess. My daughter, looking sullen and defeated immediately busts into tears!!!! I will NEVER bring her back. Lesson learned here: Observe any instructor that will touch my daughter's socioemotional well-being BEFORE exposing her. The manager stated he would "speak to" Nicole Nunez about her practices with little ones. For the well-being of other children, I hope she takes the advice or receives appropriate training. read more
