Let me just say the job they did turned out good in the end so that's not my problem with the place. Secondly the space itself is very nice. My problem is the staff. I do understand that my hair is not easy to deal with..trust me I deal with it everyday. But I thought that their comments on my hair were rude. My hair stylist called it "really bad". At the end she said she was "worn out from doing my hair". Now I can understand that because I've felt that way myself about my hair but it's not something you say to your client about their hair. I cannot not say one bad thing about this salon. When I go there I am pampered, I am made to feel like my business is appreciated. Xavier himself colors, cuts and applies the keratin treatment to my hair. I get daily compliments on the color and condition of my hair. Price is what it is, unfortunately it is the nature of the beast for any business renting their space in Sag Harbor. The space is beautiful, relaxing and very clean. I do make a point of making my appointments when they are less busy so I can enjoy and relax. My 18 year old son also gets his hair cut by Xavier, he is happy every time and my 7 year old goes to Cheryl. She gives her a beautiful BOB every time. I went to this salon after much research and met with Xavier. The receptionist was very nice and the place was clean, but that this where the good review ends. Xavier was completely rude, hardly acknowledged my presence, did not listen to what I said to him and basically gave my hair a slight trim when I specifically asked for something new. (My husband even commented on it as in "weren't you supposed to get a haircut?) Honestly, he did not say ten words to me the entire appointment. And the hair cut did not even last four weeks before it needed to be redone. Overpriced, rude, less-talent-than-one would expect. No eye contact, no thanks and no good bye. You might legitimately ask why I did not confront him, but frankly he ran away into his office so fast after whipping the cape off there was no time. I regularly go to Salon Xavier for mani pedi's and must say that Dorota is the best anywhere. While not cheap at $66, it is worth every penny! She takes her time to do it right, this is no rush 30 minute job. The pedicure is pure heaven and the manicure absolutely meticulous. Whether you are in the mood to close your eyes and indulge in the luxury of the experience, or be entertained by her endless funny stories, Dorota never disappoints. I went to Salon Xavier on Saturday with a bridal party and it was an interesting experience. Let's start with the positives first. The space itself is really cool; it's right by the water and the interior boasts exposed brick and beams. The atmosphere is definitely what I look for in a space. I went with the intention of having my hair blown out for the wedding, and while I did get a blow out, it ended up being so much better than I expected. My hair is super fine and super thin, which makes for a deadly combination if you're looking for any type of body. Knowing this, I told Bernard (my stylist for the day) that I'd love for him to do whatever he could to put even an ounce of body into my hair. He ended up using a curing iron and having me sit with the curls pinned while he did another bridesmaid's hair so that mine could set. When he first took it down it looked big and felt a tad crunchy from the hairspray. But he gave me strict instructions not to touch it for an hour, at which time I should turn my head upside down and run my fingers through the curls to give it a perfect wave. I have to admit that I was a little skeptical. As I said, my hair doesn't hold a curl and I was worried that the hairspray might weigh it down too much that by the time the wedding rolled around it would be limp and bodiless. Nope. Not at all. My hair looked more full of body than it probably ever has before. Bernard was fantastic - not only in his skill level, but also in his personality and conversation. I'd recommend him for sure. Oh, and the most important positive: the bride looked absolutely stunning. Her hair was perfect and her makeup was gorgeous. She had previously done a hair and makeup trial, so the hair stylist and makeup artist knew exactly what she wanted for her big day. Now for the slightly less positives (although not too horribly negative, either). From the moment we got there, it seemed like the receptionist was a bit stressed about fitting our entire group in during the time allotted. I didn't organize the appointments, so I can't speak to what the agreement was between our party and the salon, but I just felt like she was a little on edge, to an unnecessary extent. In fact, it felt like we were an inconvenience at times. Not how I want to feel when I'm spending money in an establishment. I totally get that it's her job to make sure things run smoothly and appointments don't run over, but I also think it's important to make the clients feel welcome and relaxed. I definitely didn't get this vibe from her until the very end when I paid and tried to make small talk. She was perfectly lovely then, but I just wish she had carried that demeanor the entire time we were there. The salon is quite pricey. Now I don't know what the going rates are for Sag Harbor, so it very well could be on par with other salons, but I thought it was a little much. Makeup for the bridesmaids was $125 (I couldn't stomach that, so I chose to do my own). I've been in a few weddings and my makeup's never been more than $60. The makeup looked beautiful on those who chose to have it done at the salon, don't get me wrong, but it just didn't look any different from the $60 makeup jobs I've experienced. All that said, Salon Xavier provided what we needed for my friend's wedding day, and everyone walked away looking perfectly put-together and beautiful. read more

I scheduled a last minute appointment on this rainy Saturday, on less than 2 hours notice, for a basic mani ($25/30 min) + spa pedi ($75/1 hr). ROSA was fantastic! Super sweet Columbian woman, so professional, attentive to details, thorough, and kind energy. The basic manicure was far from basic! It was a very thorough treatment, including lotioned hand/forearm massage. The Spa Pedi, while expensive, was a luxurious treat and well worth it! Great products and service throughout, awesome atmosphere in this well-designed salon. P.S. When asked what you'd like to drink during your service, know that they have an espresso machine ready and waiting for you. Highly recommend. read more

Had a very mediocre pedicure for $50 when most other places nearby charge $35 for mani-pedi. (If one has Darota, one might legitimately argue that it is worth $50.00 but anyone else there? I've had now two terrible experiences with this salon. I am a local of Sag Harbor and when I went in for a lip and eye brow waxing, the wax was so hot it gave me blisters and I left in a pool of tears. They did not even give me the waxings for free. The other time I went it the woman cutting my hair used her comb to measure where to cut my hair, confused by it I told her not too short and to start off long, she cut it up to my neck line. I yelled and told her to stop, so now I have two different hair cuts and again had to pay full price. In the back of my head I have hair as short as my neck line and in the front it's to my shoulders. These people are terrible. read more

I ( and my wife, my brother and my sister in law) have been clients of Xavier and his team since I discovered him at another Sag Harbor salon 19 years ago. Although we split our time between EH and NYC we've stayed with him for hair and manicure services as he moved from place to place and of course when he opened his own beautiful and comfortable facility several years ago. Opinions of salons being very subjective, and the Hamptons being home or host to some incredibly demanding types, it's encouraging to see so many of the same faces.....both client and stylist.....at Xavier's salon year after year, summer and winter. Even at the height of the "season" the greeting is warm and genuine and reflective of the personality the manager, Samantha, brings to the space. The many stylists, and of course Xavier, all seem extremely well trained and creative, the mani/pedi team is awesome. And Carlos gives one of the best washes ever! Add to that really good coffee and espresso and you've got one of the most relaxing hours you'll find in this part of the world. read more

Salon Xavier is wonderful. Karen and Jackie are particularly fabulous. Karen runs the salon and Jackie is the BEST stylist. The Salon did my hair and makeup for my wedding and rehearsal dinner. They also took care of my bridal party. Everyone we worked with was very talented and very accommodating. And, the salon allowed us to have a space to enjoy each other and mingle prior to my ceremony. Most importantly, the stylists at the Salon listen. I went to the salon in preparation for a rehearsal dinner for my son's wedding. The person who made the entire experience fabulous was Chris McCracken. He has relocated from California with a professional portfolio that is impressive and creative. He is confident in his presence, can completely put anyone at ease, and has great professional hands. I stopped into the salon two weeks before the event and had a consultation with Chris. Immediately I knew he was right! He told me not to cut my hair in advance and I was glad I listened to him He first cut my hair, then styled it, did my makeup which was outstanding,and after finished off my hair with a style for the evening. He made sure I had the lipstick to take with me for the evening. He is knowledgeable about how hair, an expert artist and has an outstanding presence. I do not live near Sag Harbor, in fact I have moved out of the state but will come back to him and schedule a visit just to cut my hair and if you have an event, you will look and feel fabulous. Anyone who positively reviews this salon must be employees there. This is the worst salon I have ever gone to. My family (5 women total) had hair and makeup appointments at Xavier on July, 2009- the short of the story is that this place is TERRIBLE. Their "senior" hairstylist, Sonia, did NOT know how to do hair- she made my sister's hair look like a mop- it was AWFUL. My other sister just wanted her hair blown out straight and Sonia even managed to ruin that! In addition, we paid for a "professional" to do our makeup. The woman who they had come in openly admitted to never being trained in how to do makeup, but that fact was pretty obvious in how she did our makeup. It is a scam for them to charge for makeup when they do not have a trained person to do it. To top things off, the owner, Xavier, was incredibly RUDE! the man has no idea what is going on in his salon and his treatment towards us made what was suppose to be a relaxing afternoon into an upsetting experience. So I rarely write reviews unless something is truly exceptional - almost by accident I ended up getting a much needed facial this summer as a friend was getting a massage appointment. Dealing with very troubled skin I'm very careful about who I let touch my face but figured that since Eva, the esthetician had worked at a medical spa previously I should be in good hands. To get right to the point - I was in the BEST hands I've ever been in my entire life - and this is from having facials at some of the best spas, media-spas etc. both stateside & international. Eva has literally changed my skin in the past 2 months from just freaking out to glowing/smooth/healthy - I can't believe my eyes! Her knowledge (and I thought I knew everything when it came to skin care) taught me knew methods of how to care for my skin/do's/don'ts and her precision, time & healing hands have just been outstanding. She honestly cares about each of her clients having healthy, beautiful skin and makes you feel like you have the most personalized/dedicated expert 100% focused on you. As a summer resident I'm already lamenting what I'm going to do during the winter but Eva has given me the confidence & knowledge of how to keep going until I can get back to her healing hands again next season - she is a TREASURE!!!! Given that positive & amazing experience I have been utilizing the other services including a great color & cut by Xavier - while some people have commented that it's very pricey - given that it's the Hamptons & the quality of personal service & care you get from Xavier and his team it's honestly well worth it - and far better than the majority of salons.
