First visit to Salon X, my hair had been untended for several months so it was long and unkempt. If there is a sign for Salon X , I didn't see it, blame in on the many decades but Amber came out and welcomed me Did I want a wash as well as just a cut? Whatever works best for you. I have learned very long ago that professionals usually know best for the mop on my head. I am very well pleased with the result. Heartbroken. Not accepting new clients. I live here and I can't get a haircut anywhere. Is this COVID or just Taos?

Unbelieveable experience today after seeing Delta at Salon X for years - had a 10:30 appt with Margot. After waiting patiently from 10:28 until 10:43 on their stairs for her to arrive, I called to let them know I would reschedule since they were not there, only to have her answer and explain that they were now in the front. As I asked about where I was parked and prepared to walk around she said since it was "close" to their cancellation time of 15 minutes (my call at 13 minutes post appt time) she stated she had another appt at 12:30 and could not accomodate me. I was beyond shocked. Truly unprofessional, no sincere apology for the confusion, no recognition of my long wait for them, knocking at the door, no acknowledgment that I had already been very gracious about moving the appt at her request as she had failed to order supplies in time for me. Clearly, this ownership/management change is not for the best. read more

It's difficult for me to make hair appointments as I travel for work and I am rarely home. I typically put the color on myself which isn't the best look. I happen to have some time off of work today and lucky for me salon X had a cancellation. What a great place! My stylus Delta, was fabulous. Friendly, professional, and excellent at her job. I am extremely disappointed with the lack of professionalism from this salon. I scheduled online several weeks out and paid a "deposit" for a cut/color. An hour before my appointment I received a text that my appointment was cancelled because the stylist left the salon. There was no offer by the owner to make up for this, only a referral to somebody else in another salon. I am leaving on a business trip in three days...the odds of getting anything done in Taos are basically zero. If you are going to own a salon you should have some sense of responsibility. It would have been nice if they would have given me a bit more than a one hour notice or offered to find time for one of the other stylists to fit me in. Bad form Salon X! Bad form. AFTER WRITING THIS REVIEW I RECEIVED THIS THREAT: "Wow, thanks for the horrendous review, as for a cancellation charge that's not going to happen. The reason Margot is not with us as of this morning is because she can't cut hair and really messed someones hair up yesterday. Visiting Taos for the weekend, I booked an appointment at Salon X hoping to remedy an unsatisfying haircut I had gotten recently. Upon arrival I immediately felt good vibes, and after some discussion about what I was looking for, Brooke absolutely nailed it!!! She asked my opinion several times throughout the process and was laid back and easy to talk to. I really like the staff and services at this Salon. Coming from New York, and working with a hairstylist for over 4 years, it was hard to transition to a new place here in Taos! But I was quickly put at ease when I met Delta the owner and my new hairstylist Christine. In fact, Delta was trained in NYC ! I've had color touch-ups and a haircut so far with Christine. She is very skilled and talented colorist, patient and attentive during my appointments. She also gave me the perfect layered hair cut for me, knowing that I am currently growing my hair out long. Love it. I was also impressed they carry the full line of Kevin Murphy products, which I've recently turned to for treating colored hair. I highly recommend Salon X if you're in Taos! read more

I was dissatisfied with the service at this salon. There were dye stains left on my forehead, neck and back. The color is so strange looking it will have to be redone. I had the worst haircut yesterday. I waited a while to post a review so I could be more objective about. I normally wear a pixie cut, and I have done for about two years. I know how long it should be, how to style it wet or dry, the products I use, and how frequently it needs to be tidied up. My husband and I arrived in Taos earlier than expected, and I needed a touch up on the cut. I called and they were able to see me right away. The gentleman gave me a shampoo and then butchered my hair. What should have been cut carefully, with length checks became a near buzz cut. My hair is about 3/4" long now, and it is shockingly short. The only thing that could masculinize me anymore at this point would be a flat top. I have no other choice than to let it grow and get it repaired in about three weeks. At the cost, this is highly disappointing. read more

I was looking for an impromptu hair cut on a ski weekend in Taos and called this salon. The owner of the salon, Delta, performed a great job on my layered cut. She was courteous and professional and checked in with me on the style/length several times during the cut. Even though I was initially a little wary due to the only review on yelp, I'm glad I took a chance and walked away refreshed with a great new look. Her prices are reasonable for a high quality cut and I would highly recommend her if you're in town and looking for a new style. read more

I went to get a men's hair cut and was extremely pleased. Michael, who cut my hair, is a licensed barber and jr. hair stylist. He washed and conditioned my hair including a scalp massage. He listened very carefully to how I wanted my long hair to be cut, and was very meticulous in cutting my hair. I know this sounds a bit over the top, but of all the haircuts I've gotten over the years and all over the country, Michael is the winner! read more

I spent a day in Taos and decided to make an impromptu pedicure appointment. After being turned away by a few others (completely) booked, I was able to get an appointment at Salon X with Jessica! I got there early so the receptionist offered coffee+tea and a comfortable couch to relax in until Jessica was ready. While waiting, the receptionist was friendly and accommodating. Jessica prepared a lovely hot soak for my feet that included peppermint, tea tree, and lavender oil and I got a good long soak in. Jessica was friendly and caring with my feet! She is very knowledgeable about skin care and her passion for body care really shows. I appreciated how friendly and easy to talk to Jessica was; she even recommended some little known Taos sights for me to check out! This salon is very sleek while also having some small town feel. A lot of the other customers seemed to be regulars and all of the stylists were kind and quite competent. I'd definitely recommend this salon for anyone going through Taos and wanting to be pampered! read more

There was a perceptible air of hostility about owner Delta's attitude throughout my experience with her. Just one example: As she was blow drying my hair she asked if I'd like her to cut my bangs. I said, "No, that's okay, I'll do them at home; they're kind of tricky because I have a cowlick." (I also have a widow's peak, so bangs need to be cut longer and at certain angles, otherwise they'll spring up and not fall right as bangs. I realize it sounds a bit complicated but, as anyone who has one knows, that's how a strong cowlick is. So that is why I take responsibility for cutting my own bangs, rather than trouble someone else with it.) In a smarmy tone she replied, "Well, lots of people have cowlicks" and proceeded to burn me with the hair dryer as she pointed it down on the cowlick and held it there. "Ow!" I finally said, as I jerked my head to the side. She said that was one way to deal with a cowlick so that bangs would lay flat to the forehead. (I don't recall her saying "sorry;" she might have.) I was a bit taken aback by the unsolicited advice---and demo. And wondered whether that was really necessary. (Wouldn't anyone figure out that hairdryer 'trick' for herself?) I also did not appreciate her personal inquiries into my life, as I was simply seeking to get my hair done, and she appeared a cold stranger with unclear intentions, at best. I certainly did not ask her any personal questions; instead I tried politely to revert her attempts at conversation (or questioning) to a topical nature, but got the impression she resented my demurring. Just rude overall, beginning to end. What an unpleasant experience to be a captive customer in her hairdresser chair. Maybe she was having a bad day. Regardless, my first experience with her will be the last. After all, there are "lots" of nice, professional hairdressers out there. read more

Highly recommend Christine at Salon X. I didn't get my hair styled so this review is only for a color touch up. The first time I went to Christine the color didn't quite stick, and so on the second visit Christine had figured out what to do to make sure the color adhered properly and charged accordingly for the fix without my having to ask. I have curly/kinky hair, and the salon doesn't carry Devachan products so I brought my own, which Christine was more than open to using. I appreciated her willingness to listen to what my hair needed. And while I didn't have Christine style my hair, I'm sure if I did she would be just as open and just as skilled at styling. read more
