I had to change salons and frankly was terrified, but read the reviews so decided to give the salon a try. Lisa is my stylist and she is amazing. The last stylist had left my hair brassy for over $200 charge so she had to do some repair work. We put mostly highlights, but also some low lights, turned out beautifully. Plus, the best haircut I have ever had. The staff are professional, stations clean and tidy, and restrooms kept nicely. I am writing this review on behalf of my mother who doesn't have a yelp account, but I had to share her story. My mother reached out to Salon Wayne via their phone number to schedule an appointment. When she called the Salon's phone number, no one picked up, but the answering machine message suggested she might have better luck by texting them to make her appointment. Long story short, my mother reached out via text to schedule a time to come in. After much back and forth, she eventually spoke to Wayne's wife, who helped her book an appointment for this past Monday 5/20/19 at 1:30 PM. This appointment was subsequently confirmed via text message. However when my mother went to the salon it was closed for business. A fellow shop owner in the area told my mother to wait, because she had just seen Wayne that morning and believed he would be right back. My mother waited for thirty minutes, texted the business number three times and got no response. Eventually she left and no one from the salon ever called or messaged her to apologize for standing her up and wasting her time. I would not recommend this salon to anyone. read more

Despite moving to Stamford more than 6 months ago, I had put off getting a haircut here because I found it hard to swallow the NYC-level prices. $70 seemed steep for a women's cut, and I thought, "how good can it really be?" Very, very good, it turns out. I finally bit the bullet and made an appointment with Heather for a cut, and I am thrilled with the results. I wanted a short, choppy long pixie cut/short bob. Many stylists I've been to seem really uneasy with short cuts - I'll say to take three inches off and get rid of a lot of the bulk, and they'll trim an inch and look at me like, oh no are you sure?? No such hesitancy with Heather. We discussed exactly what I wanted, she gave me some options about how she could cut it and what would look best with my face shape and hairline, and we decided that a razor cut would work the best for what I wanted. I've had razor cuts before, and this is possibly the best one I've ever had. She cut (razored?) skillfully and confidently, and my hair is now short and light and stylish - exactly what I wanted. Better than I expected, even, and well worth the $70. The salon staff is friendly and helpful. Heather was finishing up with another client when I arrived and I had to wait for about ten minutes, which is pretty much how long I expect to wait for an appointment, but the receptionist and Heather were both super apologetic for keeping me waiting. I didn't mind the wait at all, but really appreciated that they were conscious of my time. It's been a long while since I've felt this good about a cut. It was really disappointing treatment for my hair! I thought the popular hair stylist was good whom the receptionist recommended her to me. The shampoo, hair trim, and blow dry were not even took 20 minutes. My hair looked awful after the blow dry. It looks better if I've done myself. The hair cut is $75 but I got $3 discount. Even though I wasn't satisfied, I was still generous for the tip. Not sure if I'll be back to cut my hair there again. read more

I think I had an unusual experience, based on the other reviews. However, I feel like the experience needs a review. I arrive on Friday early evening, and am seen by Lydia. The place is empty, with just one other woman finishing her service. I explain what I'm looking for, which was frustrating, because of the stylist's impatience: "what you want?" "angle bob, texture at the bottom" "texture? No layers?" "I'm not sure, but I have a picture of a past haircut I've liked a lot." "THAT'S LAYERS" "Ok, can I just have that haircut? The haircut proceeds, and I realize that she's about to finish after about 15 minutes. I say that I want the hair to be shorter. She told me my hair is shorter, and indicates that I should look at my hair on the ground. I said, "yes, I understand that it's shorter than when I arrived... But I would like it to be cut shorter than you've cut it!" Also, I wanted the angle to be more pronounced. After some grumbling, she cuts it shorter and changes the profile, but it looks uneven. I ask her to check and it's still uneven, She says it's not. I insist that it is. Then she tells me that some unevenness should be expected. Oh! I thought I was going to get the haircut I wanted, not the lazy cut you wanted to give me. It is ultimately fixed, but one of my least favorite haircuts in recent memory. read more

I've been burned in the past with haircuts, but I desparately NEEDED a trim and some style to my hair (instead of the all-one-length-with-dry-split-ends look I was rockin - not cute). Had a huge hair dilemma where another salon messed up my hair horribly. I called around to several salons to only have them be closed on a Sunday (especially before labor day)... Finally I called salon Wayne who not only was open but willing to have a consult to c what was wrong with my hair. I had my consult with mariska, who didn't guarantee being able to fix my hair that day but said she would do her best. I drove the 45minutes to the salon to be greeted by the nice front desk girl who told mariska I was there. She took me over to her station and for 30mins we discussed my issue and figured out the best and least harmful treatment for my light blonde hair. Today was my first experience with Salon Wayne. Without making this too long I will say the salon is professional, pleasant to be in, and the stylist who cut my hair, Cara, was fabulous. My hair has been a constant struggle for a long time, especially in the humidity. I sat in Cara's chair, showed her a picture of what I wanted and we had a long discussion about it. She was patient, friendly and listened! In the end, my hair looked exactly like the photo, and Cara found a product for me (at my request, no hard sell) that will help me to keep it looking good when I do it at home. The salon was nice, clean, and professional. No doubt about that. I loved that they had Sunday hours, so I called up and got in even though they are not my usual salon. I brought pictures of the haircut I was going for (the beachy bob that is everywhere), but I left with something in between "the Rachel" and "Victoria Beckham circa 2005". My hair was already a grown out version of what I wanted, but the cut wasn't even close. I got there early, but they took me about 10-15 minutes late. Then, the stylist was rushing me through and wasn't going to style the cut. When she asked if I wanted hairspray, I was confused - my hair looked absolutely nothing like my pictures. She tried to convince me that what she did was accurate, but it was clear after she finally agreed to put some curl in that the cut was all wrong. Somehow she cut my thick hair into a flat, lifeless, dated cut. Luckily, she didn't charge me for the cut - I didn't expect that at all (and I tried to insist on paying), but I did appreciate it. I gave the salon 2 stars b/c everything else was great, the stylist was nice and I appreciated her cutting bait when it was clear I wasn't happy and she wouldn't have been able to fix it. I was there for 4 1/2 hours, but wow was it worth it! I am a natural red head, and as I have become (ahem) older, the color does fade, drastically. When I made my appointment, I specifically asked the receptionist to pair me up with someone who knows how to do red hair. Long story short, she paired me up with Heather (who is a red head herself,) and Heather did not disappoint! I have long hair which needed a good shaping as well. I am now back to being a red head, and my hair looks and feels wonderful. The only con was the price, but that was due to many steps in the interim. So I went into this salon with the mindset that I wasn't going to be paying anything for my haircut because I had been growing it for over 2 years so I could donate it to Locks of Love. So I walk in, the stylist looks at my hair and tells me I can't donate it because I had color in it. I was extremely disappointed but proceeded with the haircut anyway. I felt a LOT of pressure from not just one, but two different people to color my hair too. I was already paying $80 that I didn't want to for a haircut and had to explain over and over again that I didn't want to color my hair anymore. I could have gone up the street to Supercuts and paid 1/4 of the money for the same haircut I got. It wasn't awful, but it wasn't good either. The icing on the cake? I called Locks of Love the next day and was told that I COULD have donated my hair. They only reject hair that has been bleached, not colored. My first and last time in this place...It still hurts now that I could have helped someone with cancer and because they don't know what they're talking about, wasted 2 years of growing it out. read more

The hours are amazing; Wayne and his wife Lisa are the ultimate in flexibility, competence, professionalism, and customer service. 2. Using texts you can book an appointment and I've never been turned down on inconvenient times (Sundays!). The response is immediate and courteous. 3. The location is amazing; My Salon Suites is on High Ridge within walking distance of Lord and Taylor, restaurants, CVS, spas, nail salons, and for an industrious walker like me, Ridgeway Plaza. 4. I get more compliments than I've ever gotten on my hair; both cut and color which Wayne himself is certified and incredibly skilled in. I'm over 50 and have truly never been more satisfied with my hair. I leave to shop and am stopped each time by strangers asking where I get my hair done. 5. I had asked quite a few people at work but I ended up taking the recommendation from someone I trust very much. I called over to Salon Wayne for a consultation with Maritza after perusing the website and I made my appointment for a cut and color shortly thereafter. Maritza is absolutely wonderful, so friendly and makes you feel so comfortable. She listened and only made recommendations when I asked. I know there are quite a few reviews on here but trust me when I say you will NOT be disappointed with Salon Wayne if you go for a cut and color with Maritza. I have a haircut that needs constant tweaking and I usually cut it monthly. My hair is super short in the back and long in the front which is why I was so hesitant to change. Do yourself a favor and go to Salon Wayne, you will not be disappointed. Not only is Maritza great but everyone I've met at the shop is really friendly and I have no complaints. I have very long hair that is around my waist at this point and it is not something I would trust just anyone with since I have been trying to grow it out for the past few years. I started seeing Heather here about a year ago and now I won't trust anyone else anywhere to cut my hair. I see her about every 4-6 months or so and she always gives me great advice and knows how much I dislike having to cut my hair, so she cuts as little as possible off without leaving any unhealthy ends. My hair is now much healthier and better looking than it has been in years. The cut was just ok and the stylist ran out of time and couldn't flat iron my hair. Instead she had the shampoo woman do it! *** I was able to get a same day appointment (+) highlights (+) Heather Wash (-) Assistant haircut (-) Heather Heather, extremely nice was available on time and got me magazines. She also asked if I wanted anything to drink. I showed her a picture of how I wanted my highlights. I also explained how I wanted my hair cut. My partial highlights took an hour. I was then placed under the dryer for 30 minutes. Here comes the worst part: my wash. The assistant nicely walked me over to the sinks. After I got my head in, she started vigorously pulling out the foils. It hurt. After all of the foils were out and chunks of my hair had been pulled out, the assistant put the cold water on. The assistant should have conditioned my hair before shampooing it because it was a tangled mess after the foil incident, but she didn't. She proceeded to message my now tangled shampoo scalp, which also hurt. After that was over, I thought relief was on its way, with conditioner. She put a dab of conditioner on her hand, which was not enough for all of my hair. She realized this and tried to get more conditioner out of the empty bottle. With only a bit more conditioner, she decided to brush my hair in the sink-- like WTF? During this time she asked me, "Does your hair normally get this knotty?" My response was, "I normally use conditioner." Of course my hair is going to get knotty, especially after those highlight chemicals. She then washed the conditioner out with cold water. Lastly, she directed me to Heather's chair. I waited for Heather with cold, wet hair for about five minutes. When she returned, we reviewed how I wanted my hair cut. I explained that I did not want it short. She showed me exactly how much she was going to cut off. 3/4 of the way through the cut, I realize that she cut too much, almost double what she showed me. I explained that she couldn't cut any more because although my hair was wet then, when it curls, it was going to be even shorter. Long story short, color is good, but haircut is horrible. Also the blowout was not very good. My hair was still frizzy by the time I left. She used no product and the blow out itself took too long. I saw a lot of guys getting their cuts here. Maybe they are better with that population? Too expensive for the experience. I will not be going back. read more
