Debbie, the owner, is very rude and arrogant. Her haircut's quality is based on her mood. We always had bad experiences with her. She went to the bank right on the time we reserved, and made us wait for 40' without an apology. She left us waiting while checking, texting, and answering her phone, or serving her regulars first. If you want a good haircut, don't make her mad, don't breathe loudly, and certainly don't say anything if she made mistakes on your hair, since she could make it worse. read more

I've been going to Debbie for at least 10 years now. She's done my hair cut, color, highlights and even permed my hair. This salon takes amazing care of my hair. It's always mainly Debbie that does my hair but all her help at the salon have always been great as well. My only concern is that you get an appointment the same time with at least 3 people at the same time. So, the length of time to get your hair done goes longer than expected. I'm very picky about my hairstyle...I have a round face and I need just the right haircut to frame it and make it look more normal and less like a full moon...and Debbie's the only one who gives me perfect bangs and layers every time. There were a few times where I tried other stylists but I was always unhappy when I stepped out of the salon so I went back to Debbie. Came in today for my first-time hair coloring. Debbie is really nice. She is very detailed and knows what she's doing. I told her that I want to turn my black hair into blonde, the whole head. But she suggest that I should highlight it instead so it wouldnt hurt my scalp. My go-to place for hair whenever I'm in the area. They do great work, are happy to work with the style you want or offer suggestions. Both Debbie and the other barber are easy to work with, though I generally prefer the other (think she does my hair better, knows just the right amount of conversation to give, and doesn't have as packed of a schedule as Debbie does usually). Can either call ahead or walk-in. If you walk-in, would recommend earlier in the day. They aren't as uptight about scheduling, so it's sometimes easy to slip in as a walk-in but also somewhat easy to get a delayed a bit if you made an appointment. I personally have never waited for more than 5-10 min as far as I remember. There's a parking lot with plenty of spaces. I've seen a lot of shops around the lot come and go, but Salon Rumor's is the only one to have lasted the past 10+ years or so. Men's cut is around $20. Takes credit cards. read more

I have been pleased with my haircuts! Both times :) Debbie is amazing! My mother and I called to make an appointment. She was able to accommodate us right away. I was long overdue for a haircut and my hair was damaged because I straighten my hair a lot. Debbie trimmed and layered my hair. She recommended the silk therapy, which conditions the hair. I have been coming here over the years now and there's many reasons for coming back haircut after haircut. Well, first of all, is the convinence because it is close to home. I usually just drop in last minute and I'm always happy that the wait isn't too long. I usually do make a call to confirm the wait isn't long though. And, if it is, I would schedule an appointment. Either way, it has worked out well with my schedule. The price they charge is fair ($20 for men's haircut) and the staff is friendly. Over the years I have both Debbie and Jenny cut my hair and they both have been great. I like how the hair wash/rinsing is included in the price and how it is not separate services like at some other barber shops. Plenty of parking out front and credit cards are accepted. read more

After seeing my friend get a fabulous hair cut from Salon Rumors and reading such highly rated reviews on Yelp, I had to check this place out for myself. I visited earlier this year, in March. I had made an appointment, but still had to wait about 30 minutes. I forget who my stylist was; I think it was Debbie. We talked about what I wanted and ultimately I just wanted to trim the length a bit, get new layers, and thin out the rest of my hair cos it was getting pretty heavy. My hair didn't take very long to cut... Washing, cutting, and styling took only about an hour. I thought she could've layered my hair a lot more so there would be more movement and overall, be more texturized. Since I went in with wavy hair, she used a curling iron to style my hair free of charge, which was nice of her, even though I didn't like the way she curled it. I don't really recall how much I paid, but it definitely wasn't more than $30. For the price, the cut was mediocre and I haven't gone back as I wasn't impressed. I've since then found another salon I really like but due to distance issues, I'm considering going back to Salon Rumors and giving it another shot, since it's fairly close to where I go to school. read more

Debbie is soo nice! There's a "fairly" simple short haricut that nobody could ever get right until I went to Salon Rumors. I mean, I HAVE THE PICTURE of what I want. I moved out of the area but after trying out 3 different barbors and salons, I decided to make the drive back here. They are great and make your hair the exact way you describe. Pictures work well if you can't describe it accurately. Reasonably priced mens haircut (don't know anything about womans) Jennie is my favorite, and she's the main reason why I am willing to make the drive out here. I had my hair done by Debbie once and another lady (Maybe Michelle? I forgot her name). I wasn't disappointed with the results by all means, however no one put as much effort or attention to my hair as Jennie has. If you're a guy, I highly recommend Jennie. Debbie, you are my hair savior. I'm not kidding. I used to fear haircuts. They would turn out terribly almost 99% of the time...that is until I found you! I would go at least 12+ months between haircuts, always with a different hairstylist so that I could let the last haircut grow itself out to ridiculous proportions. With you, I don't have to learn to love my haircut. I actually look forward to getting my haircut and I've come here consistently for trims. I've NEVER done that before. EVER. My first time here was back in June. After getting my hair washed, Debbie noticed that the texture of my hair is really thick and wavy so she recommended I get my hair thinned out and layered. I hadn't the faintest idea what she meant by thinning out my hair but she explained it to me she'd be doing it with a razor, sort of like thinning out your bangs so it looks like a more natural cut than a blunt one. I didn't want it layered because I always got it layered before and was never happy with it, but I left caution to the wind and said the hell with it. I'm a picky person and am very hesitant with salons since 8/10 of the ones I go to dissatisfy me, but my friend suggested this place after I commented on how I loved her new trim and layers. In desperate need of a haircut because my grown-out layers were too plain and also because of my graduation the next day, I decided to make an appointment and go that Wednesday afternoon. The woman who picked up the phone (Debbie) was very informative on prices and I was able to make an appointment for 3:30 the same day no problem! I didn't bring in any reference pictures. I just asked her to trim 2.5 inches, layer my hair nicely, & trim my side bangs. It was a simple order, but she delivered much more than I would've thought for what I asked. She didn't over-trim my hair and bangs (like most cutters do..), but always asked for my opinion on the length before cutting more, which was awesome! The cut itself didn't take too long, but it also wasn't incredibly short. She spent a good 30+ minutes cutting my hair and making sure the layers were even and that my split ends were gone, but still managed to keep length to my hair. She blow dried my hair and began straightening it, but then offered to curl it instead so that it would be nice and wavy for my graduation the next day. At first I paused because I thought this was some lame extra-charge trick, but then she added that she'd do it for free, she's so sweet! I was extremely pleased with my haircut and styling and all of it for just $40! Also, the girl who washed my hair (Debbie's daughter I believe) did an amazing job too. I know that's strange to say, but I wouldn't be reviewing about her if she didn't. She thoroughly massaged my head while washing my hair and even massaged my temples too! It was as if I was at a spa instead of a hair salon. I loved it! I'm totally coming here for my hair-needs from now on and I'm confident that I won't be writing any bad reviews for Salon Rumors any time soon, if at all. On my last visit to Salon Rumors, I asked Debbie to trim my hair-alternatively she cut my hair in such a way that it completely changed my original cut. Not to mention I had to wait almost 30 minutes as she was juggling multiple clients. She offered me a 5% discount on my next visit in good faith. After my cut I told her that if my cut wasn't manageable than I would come back, she was perfectly fine with that. I did go back after a week and again I waited for quite some time while she juggled clients and while she corrected my cut. Eventually I wasn't happy and she walked away and left me with a bad cut. I'm very supportive of small minority owned businesses, but in this country customer service and reviews will make you or break you. I highly recommend not to patronize Salon Rumors. read more

My first short haircut from this place was amazing! I am going to definitely go back there for my second soon. I simply walked in off the street since my boyfriend was at school at Mt. Sac and I had time to spare. They took me in right away, gave me a book to choose a style from, and voila... the best short haircut yet. It was perfect for my interview in the following days, and I think it definitely made a difference. I have had people butcher my asian hair before, and am thankful this place didn't! My thick straight asian hair didn't poof up or look too heavy. I definitely recommend this place to my local friends and family. Finding this place was a little tricky. It's not in the plaza with the Jack in the Box, but the one north of it, but before the next light. I am glad I found this place. I am SOOOO picky about my hair and it seems like every time I think I've found THE ONE when it comes to stylists, the next time I get my hair cut, I leave feeling just ok about the experience. So full disclosure, I've only come here once, but I had a super great experience and I LOVE my haircut (and trust me... it is very very rare for me to love a trim!). I asked for more layers and a two inch trim off the bottom with side swept bangs (aka typical long Asian girl hair). I was pretty nervous and honestly when I left the salon with my hair curled I thought this place was another bust as it was shorter than I wanted it and in the curls it looked just whatevs. However! After washing my hair that night and looking at the cut the rest of the week, I absolutely love it and think Debbie did a GREAT job! My hair falls really well and the layers are perfect. Again, it is a little shorter than I wanted, but at least all of my dry ends are gone. All in all I think I had a great experience and though she's not the most bubbly like some of the stylists out there, Debbie was really nice. My next cut won't be for while, but I will absolutely come here again... and maybe be a bit more specific about the length. Yay! read more

I lost count the number of years I've been a patron here at this salon. I came here for a hair trim and remember my first visit very well. I've been to too many hair salons in my lifetime only to experience disappointments one after another. I would ask for certain hairstyle, and each time, the hairstylist provided hairstyles which seemed to have met their agenda, except for Debbie here at Salon Rumor. For a $7 bangs trim, my bangs look like a 5th grader cut them. I had to ask her to cut them twice because the first time just looked like she thinned out my already long bangs. The length did not change. I must have caught her on a bad day because she did not seem very happy that I asked her to do it again at which point she chopped them too short in a matter of 3 seconds. Debbie is awesome! I came here for the first time about 7 mths ago. I was nervous to 1) cut my hair so short (I was getting a pixie cut) and 2. cut my hair somewhere new, would they cut it right? I decided to take a risk. So with 2 different pics in hand, I explained to Debbie how I wanted it and she got to work. The result was exactly how I wanted it! Now fast forward to this past Friday, I needed a trim, but also wanted a little style. So off I go to Debbie except this time she couldn't take me, instead another Korean woman helped me out. I just told her I wanted to keep the length, but needed a trim. She told me she'd give me layers and I gave her my blessing lol I really love how my hair turned out. After my cut, I asked her not to style my hair because I always shower after a cut ( I know, I'm weird). She didn't try to push me on the subject like other stylists have in the past.
