It is by far the best hair salon in Ottawa. It is a bit pricey as anything with a good quality, but they ALWAYS make sure you will leave happy and satisfied. They have excellent hair colourists, like Heidi she is a sweetheart, a perfectionist that always makes sure she gets your hair bleached, coloured or highlighted with no mistakes, quick,so she wouldn't damage the hair, and has great ideas when it comes to colours. I went there for year searching the right whitish blond, and then she comes in and finds the perfect toner for my hair that helped me be closer to the colour we are trying to get to, which no one taught about. And I must add I am a full brunette hair girl. Amir the owner and my hairstylist always makes sure he wouldn't damage my hair. Because I am a brunette and I wanna go white at some point we decided it is best for me to have highlights and in time we get there, so I don t need to see my hair fall or look damaged or get dry. You always have the choice to fully bleach it, but that s up to you and the strength of your hair. The way he cuts hair is just perfect. He always makes sure how much he needs to cut and advises me on how to take care of it at home what to avoid. The products they have are by far cheaper than you would expect. I tried buying my purple shampoo from Kevin Murphy online thinking it s gonna be cheaper but I was surprised to see it was not. They also have some deals on their hair products sometime. I could say a lot about this salon and everything is going to be the best thing anyone can say. Very good job you are doing there making women feel so good about themselves, make them feel beautiful and confident after they leave the salon. Best salon ever!!! With a big xoxo from Carol! read more

Beware beware beware! Amir will rip you off big time! Came in for balayage service after a consultation just to have them tell me what was agreed to during consultation isn't doable!! Ended up paying 412 for a botched job. When I asked for a partial refund, they made it seem like they were doing me a service!!! Avoid at all costs!!! read more

Salon Rouge - Toned my whole scalp red! I had a date that night too... - Hair Salons Near Me - Ottawa, Ontario

i came to this salon upon referral from a friend who normally has an amazing experience. she gets a cut and colour every roughly 6 months if not less. my standards are quite high in terms of service and quality of a cut (i don't colour my hair) and by her experience i took her recommendation expecting her typical service but received instead a very mid , average salon and customer service. firstly i made sure to tell him (the owner) and show with pictures exactly what i wanted for my cut (bangs with face framing and a big chop to donate the length of my hair). normally , the hairdressers would section my hair and put elastics where i would like the new length to be and cut just above so i could keep my hair to donate. he made me do that process on my own for which i struggled because i cant reach nor see the back of my head so i had to ask my friend to help me make sure it was even at the back. prior to the actual cut i had warned him about my hair being a little difficult (i have many cowlicks which makes cutting my hair take longer and an added difficulty in making it absolutely straight). he didn't believe me and proceeded to say my previous hairdressers didn't know how to cut hair (again , i've only had my hair cut by professional and experienced hairdressers). normally they have to cut my hair wet , dry and straightened. when i mentioned this to him he told me wouldn't need to cut it dry and normally doesn't in general but later had realized he indeed did need to cut it dry as well as straightened. he even went as far as to use barbers clippers to assure the cut was straight (never happened before). he blamed my cowlicks for my bangs being incredibly choppy and terribly cut. there was very little to no face framing and any that was , was again not well blended and uneven on both sides. he had also cut my bangs too far into my hair and again wasn't blended with the choppy face framing. i had repeatedly asked him to fix it but he was unable to at any capacity and simply told me he has another client waiting and that i cannot keep asking him to fix it (he also didn't make sure to allot enough time for my individual cut). i have never ever left a hair salon wanting to cry and absolutely HATING my hair. i literally had to go home and cut my hair on my own in my bathroom to fix (specifically) my bangs. i will never go back to this salon. he was completely unprofessional and ignorant and didn't listen to a thing i told him and even tried to insult my previous hairdressers to then butcher my hair. read more

Extremely expensive for a poor job, a rip off, extremely rude, horrible experience. if there was an option for a negative star Amir would get -5 read more

Good: The salon is really clean and spacious. Better: Great customer service. The owner and employees are all friendly but professional. The cappuccino was a welcome sight after a long day! Best: Working with the stylist (Danielle) was refreshing. She paid attention to my requests, but was straightforward regarding what would realistically work with my hair (and the admittedly little attention I give it every morning). She showed me how to style and blow dry it for a night out, and wasn't pushy with the products. FYI, I don't colour my hair, but this seemed to be a popular service. I'm really pleased with the cut; it's a tad pricey, but well worth it. I'll definitely be coming back. Although they take cards, tips are only accepted in cash. There is an ATM in the salon. read more

Spend half of my time in the Ottawa area and half my time in the NYC area. I was up here recently and looked in the mirror and realized how bad my roots were. Not being one to just go to a random salon, I looked online a bunch and lended up here. I got highlights and low lights done here and was extremely happy. Not being a natural blonde, I need a mix of highlights and low lights that allows my roots to grow in "gracefully". She also toned my hair t(which 2 weeks later is still not brassy). Overall Charlene is amazing and can't wait to return! read more

Hi I have long curly hair I made an appointment with allegedly experienced haistylist at Salon Rouge and as well some websites they are on have good ratings when I called I made sure they give me someone excellent to cut curly hair. Long story short I left there weeping my long butchered hair Salon Rouge is inexperienced and unprofessional read more

It was my first time at Salon Rouge. Danielle gave me a great hair cut. Very professional service and no time lost! Will definitely go back! Thank you all at Salon Rouge. read more

During a business trip, I noticed how shapeless my hair was so I walked in here on a whim. I have long curly hair. Dominique gave me bangs and some layers. She styled it to make it wavy. Looks pretty good now. :D Definitely recommend. Oh and her rate is 55 CAD... read more

I recently moved from Toronto and found myself looking for a new hairdressed in the Byward Market. I went in requesting a root touch up (no highlights, simply a colour match) and a haircut. To my dismay, I left 1.5 hours later with very dark roots which did not in any way, shape or regard match my original roots. Rather, due to the extremely dark colour they applied- it looked as though I had 4-5 months of regrowth:( Add to that, the "cut" took exactly five minutes and overall I received a bill for $160.00. I went back to my original hairdresser two weeks later and had them fix the mess that Salon Rouge made. So $260 later, I finallly had decent hair-a pretty costly 'trial' of the services of Salon Rouge. Beware!! read more

The blonde girl doesn't know how to blow dry hair at all she did my hair under 20 mins. And it looked like I just dried my hair out of the shower. And then when i said that I don't like it and to go over it again she said she will charge me more money .....worst service ever read more

THE POSITIVE REVIEWS ARE FAKE!! This salon is terrible, you are better off picking Any other salon in Ottawa, I wish I did!! They ruined my hair and gave a totally wrong haircolour and it was all blotchy too!! don't repeat my mistake of going there!! read more

I went there for a highlight. My stylist asked me if i also wanted a hair cut or a blow dry, and I said no . when she finished, she guided me toward the cash , while my hair was soaking wet and water dropping of my hair, she didn`t even try to dry my hair with a towel! I would never ever imagined that drying customers hair after washing highlight materials is not a part of their highlight service ! It could be much nicer if they had included the blow dry cost into the highlight service! In addition, my highlight color didn't turn out as l asked for( asked for caramel highlight but got ash blond). Overall, not a very pleasant experience. read more

Great customer service. I came in and asked for an ombre which unfortunately didn't turn out the way I expected. Even though the staff offered to complimentarily fix my hair I refused and wanted to go to another location to fix it. Even though my hair did not turn out the way I wanted it to what really impressed me about Amir and the staff at Salon Rouge was their customer service. They answered promptly to my emails and there was no fights or difficulties when I simply requested for a refund. They were very apologetic and understanding and I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. Thank you Amir and Salon Rouge for your understanding and hassle-free customer service. Even though my hair didn't turn out how I expected I still recommend this salon purely for it's customer service. read more

Excellent: professional and does a great job. Good salon, clean and aesthetically nice. Slightly expensive but they do a great job.

This place was mediocre. The reviews make it sound far better than it was. Woman who cut my hair did an okay job. The whole experience was "meh". The best people there were the males, one who was the owner and took my jacket, offered me something to drink. The other was the young man who washed my hair. Maybe it was due to it being the end of the day or the fact that the appointment before mine the woman ran 30 minutes late, but I just felt like for about 65 bucks (55 for the cut 10 tip) I was a little bit underwhelmed by my hair cut experience. read more

I have lived in Toronto, NYC and Ottawa. This salon experience getting highlights was one of the worst I have ever had. They were very pushy trying to upsell me telling me how bad my hair looked... I ended up spending more on this service than I ever had and this did not even include a cut or a blowdry which I opted not to do. The actual highlights were good- which is why I am not giving this place 1 star. (But I have had better). But I couldn't handle how aggressive they were. This was not a relaxing or enjoyable experience. I walked out of there feeling like I had been taken advantage of. Perhaps if they had been nice, and the ambiance very posh, I wouldn't have minded the price. I will not be going back. read more

I have long naturally curly hair and curly hair can't be cut the same way as straight hair. So I made an appointment at Salon Rouge because on a few websites they are very well rated and when I called I specified TWICE that I wanted a hair dresser with experience cutting curly hair and the girl reassured me that that is who I got. I show up and my hair dresser is quiet and timid, zero confidence so right away I'm a little scared. She asks me what I want and I tell her. BTW her name was KELSEY. The hair washing was not done well, she only washed the top of my head and neglected the back part. I asked for 1 1/2 inches to be cut off and for some layers. She probably cut off 5 or 6 inches, my beautiful curls that used to fall well over my shoulders are now a short curly bob. She cut my hair STRAIGHT. Zero layers, zero texture. Then she proceded to dry my hair while brushing it... i asked for it to be styled curly and you can't brush out the curls while drying it or else you'll end up with a big frizzy mess. Her solution to this was to straighten it.... The owner of the salon was walking around the whole time giving orders to the other hairdressers (unfortunatly he didn't help out my hair dresser). My hair dresser made very little conversation with me. I asked my hair dresser how long she had been cutting hair for and after a very long pause she said 3 years. LIES!!! Bottom line. I would not reccomend this salon to anyone. I could of gotten a much better hair cut at first choice haircutters for 1/4 of the price. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! read more

I had to find a new stylist in Ottawa, decided to google best salon. I had my hopes down because i had some bad experiences in the past trying out new salons. This time though the owner was there to greet me, someone took care of me right away, sat me down ect.. I wanted a full head of highlights and was delighted by the outcome. Looks like i've found my new stylist in Ottawa! thanks for the great service keep it up read more

Hands down the worst experience I have ever had in a hair salon. I booked the appointment, noting that I was recently laid off and looked forward to an opportunity to boost my confidence heading into an important interview. I needed a root touch-up and style. The stylist told me that a root touch up would not fix the mess (paraphrasing, but not by much) that was my colour and to come back when I had more money to fix it. I was horrified. He watched me walk out of the salon, head hanging low and my hair still a mess heading into an import interview. Who does that?? Elitist, insensitive and completely inappropriate. I don't care how much money I have, I will never again walk into that place. If there is anything positive to say, it is that the receptionist initially greeted me kindly. Very unfortunate that kind or respect and professionalism does not translate to all staff. read more

I always saw salon rouge as I walked home from work, and decided to try it out. One of the most expensive mistakes I've ever made. I brought in three different pictures of my own hair colour to have them match it. Long story short, my hair went from Dirty blonde to almost white- which is not what I had shown or talked to them about. When I told them It was much too blonde they had me come back another day- to which they just put a million pin thin lowlights in- which made my hair look one dimensional and bland. $290 later I was still unhappy with the colour, the cut and the service. No one bothered to check with me about either of the colours they put in my hair, even when I was very specific as to what I wanted. My hair was fried by the end, and still struggling to stay together even after I went to a 2nd place to fix their mistake. I would never suggest anyone go here, take your money and go across the street, I regret not waiting 3 weeks for an appointment at texture instead. read more

I have never met such a "bully", and rude owner of a salon in all my life. I been to hair salons all over the world, and this one tops the cake...... How can somebody speak to a staff member like they were dirt..?. Esp, in front of the "only " client in the salon!!!!! That was my experience today. Went into "Salon Rouge", to get a over a $400.00 hair treatment, and walked out feeling ripped off, pissed off, and sad for the stylists who have to work for him. . Please don't get me wrong... The hair stylist was fantastic, professional, and definitely knowledge about her job. Very happy with the results!! She was a hard working , promoting products, and other services to me, just what I am sure her boss rehearsed her on. The funny thing is I would of came back for hair extensions which would of cost another $1000.00, but alas I will not... I could go into details, but I won't waste your time! There are so many salons in the downtown area, you can pick and choose. My advice for someone looking for a new stylist is: Call, consult, and even a walk in to check out the salon before you even waste your hard earned money. read more

DO NOT GO HERE. I was swayed by the glowing reviews. In reality, this place is the salon version of a pyramid scheme. I am convinced the reviews are largely fake. I have thick curly hair and have never seen someone (Raphaelle) spend only 15 minutes cutting my hair. It is the most unprofessional haircut I've ever had. I was then asked if I wanted another appointment in 3 months after my stylist did not think I should go any shorter. There are also incentives if you refer others. This doesn't add up. I was unhappy and asked for a refund after seeing my hair curly when I washed it afterwards. I was told that I could have a refund if I removed my review. I said wasn't okay with that. I haven't heard from them since. I think that kind of unprofessionalism speaks for itself. Yes, they are overly friendly. They will offer you a cappuccino. But at the end of the day, I did not find this place to have substance. Avoid this place. read more
