I wasn't going to post but after MONTHS of consideration I am. The cut was awful and the color was probably the worst I have ever had. I provided the color codes/info and somehow that was ignored. My hair was orange. Told there was a cash discount, but that wasn't given. Styling was non-existent. More interested in using 2 hair dryers at the same time rather than actually styling the cut. The wash wasn't enjoyable and whatever was put in my hair left it a sticky mess. Nice guy but didn't listen or offer suggestions. $200 wasn't unreasonable but it is when the cut, color and style are all ... not good. read more

I had such a great experience with John. He is incredibly talented and took the time to understand what I wanted while also offering thoughtful recommendations. I especially appreciated how much he educated me on proper hair care and which products would work best for my hair type. Made an appointment the other day as a first time customer to get my long, damaged and highlighted hair dyed jet black. It was really easy to make an appointment and the availability was super flexible. John did an incredible job on my hair, it was better than I imagined. I was a little anxious about dying my hair since it had been so long to take a big change and hyped me up and made me feel super confident in my decision. He was also super cool and easy to talk to. John Falcon is a great stylist. He fixed a botched haircut from another hair salon and continues to give me a fantastic cut each time since.

Response to John: I have paid you in cash for every appointment. I have bank records showing ATM withdrawals made on the same days I had appointments with you. These withdrawals were made at the BofA near your salon. It is not my practice to pay in cash for everything. I have no reason to lie about the fees you said you would charge me for using a credit card. There's no way you can justify a 30% increase because you had to cover an extra inch of gray, and "pull through" to the ends of my hair with color you had already applied to my roots. You could not have possibly used that much extra color. You have never charged me a fee in the past for extra color, if I went longer than six weeks in between appointments. I did talk to you about those unexpected fees the times they happened. There was very little response from you. You shrugged your shoulders, and said something along the lines of, "well, that is what I need to charge you today." Regarding your fees for credit cards and Zelle, you responded that there was a cost to you for using those services. Zelle doesn't charge fees, so I don't know what cost you could possibly incur from the use of a payment app. read more

Looking for bridal hair trials close to our wedding venue, I was worried about steep cost & stepping out of a network of referrals closer to home (eastbay/SF). I looked up Salon Novo's site & was impressed by the experience that Andria had, so I booked a Bridal hair trial. She was friendly, easy going, & receptive to my dear friend/sister hanging out with us. She did an unpolished, however beautiful wedding updo in just short of 45 minutes. We collaborated prior to my appt so she knew my hair texture & ideal updo... I really appreciated the extra time she put into making sure she was in tune with what I was hoping for. She uses eco-friendly products that smell great! I would recommend if brides have the extra cash, pay a little extra for a polished updo so you get a better idea of how the updo will hold up & shine. God bless Monica for saving my hair. I had a horrendous dye job done at another salon and she fixed it. The pic says it all. She let me know off the bat that she has done color corrections several times in the past, or in her words: "This is my jam." Whoa! Not only did I make my appointment through text message (so easy) it was really simple to find just a few mins from Mission Inn! It was perfect timing so that I could get back and finish my bathing ritual, massage and 8 course meal at Sante looking really svelte with my sexy new 'do. The salon is adorable! Bright, fresh, clean, simple but comfy enough to tell my life story to the ridiculously handsome John Falcon. What a find! He is a true precision stylist. My first compliment is on the massage while my hair was being washed...first step to world peace is a good head massage! We had already done a consult where John pretty much understood exactly what I wanted and gave me a very good feeling about my hair. And when we got back to the chair John quickly and adeptly trimmed and styled my hair. I am coming out of two bad cuts so to finally feel comfortable and excited about my hair was huge! John asked me how I styled my hair and he let me show him...in 20 years of hair cuts, never has any stylist cared how I do my hair! Unfortunately I had a very negative experience at this Salon. I cannot recommend going here. I had to go to another salon for a color correction. It's so important that a stylist listen to their client, as well as be humble enough to acknowledge a mistake made. In the photo below you can see my roots are much darker than the rest of my hair. I went in to Salon Novo after reading all the rave reviews on Yelp. I moved to Sonoma from SF and have been driving back to the city to see my stylist since then, which can be a pain! After calling just a day in advance to Salon Novo, I was able to book an appt with John... He did an amazing job cutting my hair! He was professional and knew the right questions to ask. It seemed a bit risky to go in cold and ask someone who wasn't familiar with my hair to chop it all off to a pixie cut, but he wasn't phased. He talked me through the process, I showed him a few pictures and then he went at it! I was thrilled with the result and he even showed me lots of ways to easily style it. She's been my hair stylist for over 10 years, and I always come out of her salon looking way better than when I went in. Andria has a tremendous sense of style, and she's a very detailed and meticulous stylist. I get a hair cut from her every 3 - 4 weeks, and she gives me a complimentary "neck trim" every 3 weeks in between, which makes each hair cut last 6 - 7 weeks so it's a good value as well. read more

Since I don't live in the area the owner, Andria, helped me set everything up and pay in advance over the phone to simplify things for the day of. Called this morning to make a wash and blow out appointment. I asked the man who answered the phone what the charge was and he told me $50. I thought this was pretty high but was desperate so agreed. Leticia the stylist actually charged me $60. When I told her I was quoted $50 she disagreed. Not very customer service oriented. I experienced the worst blow out at Salon Novo. My hair is not smooth- it's wavy and frizzy, I asked for curled ends and it is straight.. the stylist got water down my back and charged me more than the online quoted cost saying since she is a stylist that she charges more. I could have done a better blow out at home and saved a good chunk of money. Won't be going back. I do not recommend Salon Novo for basic blowouts. *I will also note that Saturday night after I posted this review I received an inappropriate text to my phone from the owners of Salon Novo asking me to take the review down. Andria has been cutting my hair for the last 3 years. Prior to this, I had been traveling out of Sonoma because I didn't think I could find someone who had a sense of style and experience without having to go to the City. I was wrong! Andria is amazing and my wife who is even pickier than I am will only go to her as well. Salon Novo, is cool and contemporary, yet it has a very warm and inviting feel. There is nothing like it in Sonoma. Add to this the fact that the salon is green and they have everything going for them. We've also really appreciated she and her husband John's sense of community involvement as they recently hosted a fundraiser for a local non-profit in the community.
