What is there NOT to say about Salon Monique? First of all, it has the most lovely ambience and I genuinely feel at home here. Every time I get my hair done, I feel like I'm stepping into an oasis of calm - very unlike the super modern, busy, sensory overload type salons I have been to in the past! I just saw Deb, and I have also seen Tracy, and both women are fantastic. They were considerate of my requests, and suggested their professional opinions as well. I visited Salon Monique for the first time a few weeks ago to cash in on a gift card my sister got me for Christmas. I chose to get a Customized Facial with Grace - what can I say? It was the best facial experience I've had, and I've been to many high-end spas in NYC. Salon Monique itself is in a beautiful old Victorian home and the facial room vibe was sooo relaxing. Grace is a pro, super friendly and provided an excellent facial and neck/shoulder massage (I almost fell asleep). She guided me through every step of the facial without being too chatty and provided tips on cleansing products that would not break the bank and no upselling involved. Came back from such a wonderful experience. The salon is very warm and welcoming and I loved it the minute I stepped in. Chloe at the front desk showed me around the salon. Alexisia treated me to a world of wonder, starting with a brief but nice shoulder massage. She colored my roots and the massage while she shampooed and conditioned was awesome. Another lady gave me hand massage, the warm towel on my shoulder felt like I was in heaven. Alexisia gave me a trim and blow dried my hair. I came back feeling awesome and pampered. Rose was a nice lady, but I will not go back. I arrived on time for my appointment, but ended up waiting for almost an hour before she had time to help me. I was there for a perm, and I showed her the style I was looking for and checked with her if this is something she can do. Quite possibly the best haircut I've ever gotten. I just moved here from Dallas TX, and came to the salon at the recommendation of a friend who also has been coming here for years. Monique cut my hair, and had really great technique. She was also very instructional on giving me info based on the texture of my hair for shampoos and conditioners (it's an Aveda salon), as well as blow drying techniques for my hairstyle. I had to wait a little while to get an appointment with Monique, but it was totally worth it. I'm sure the other stylists at the salon are great too. read more

We have had great results in the past at Salon Monique, but today we specifically asked for red highlights and showed a picture (same stylist had done that specific hair in the past) of exactly what we wanted. She stated "how about a strawberry". I said no. She wanted to still show me a picture saying "not that I'm pushing". I saw it -- said no! Want just the highlights as the first time. Picked up my daughter? Absolutely strawberry -- even more than in the picture we were shown. Were told "it'll wash out". Will not be back. It's too "permanent" (weeks), too expensive, to have done to your head what the stylist wants rather than what was asked and paid for. read more

I was a little nervous to see someone new until I met Deborah (Deb) ...she did a long consultation with me about the Aveda line of hair products that would work best for my hair. Worst hair coloring I've ever ever received. Highlights were thin & coppery, not blonde & chunky like I asked for. Didn't even look like I got my hair done. I had to go back a week later to have it fixed and it STILL CAME OUT WRONG. This time they painted color on my roots - all I wanted was a chunky blonde highlight. Wish I could post pictures. Don't go here for color. It's taking months this to fix this mess. read more

I highly recommend Salon Monique for anyone looking for a wig. I brought my 85 year old mother in for a wig consultation with Monique. She treated my mother with such kindness, dignity and patience. She took the time to get to know what my mother liked and what she didn't like as well as making recommendations about what she thought would look nice. This is the worst place you could ever go to for hair color. I'd give 0 stars if I could. Remember the fact that all their reviews are from years ago, and listen to the other "1 Star" reviewer. I came here to get my roots done and they made them the same color as my natural hair color... So what was the point in that????? I went back in the next day to fix them and they made my roots even darker. This time they really turned out to be jet black (my natural color) and it was spread through out my head a lot more than where my roots needed to be dyed. I currently have a brown to blonde ombré and guess what - my blonde hair turned into a dusty shade of brown / blonde. I wanted to cry. These people do not know what they're doing, do NOT trust them.
