It's wonderful being part of the Yelp community because my Yelp search is how I found and decided to try out Salon Mariposa. This salon has a great website with lots of great information, but the services I needed required me to email the salon. I had a reply from Janny in less than 30 minutes and we exchanged a few emails and she was able put me on her calendar for an appointment a few days later after our initial communication - which was a lifesaver!! I arrived for my appointment, was greeted warmly by Janny, filled out a short form and got to the business of my hair. Janny listened to my needs, got right to work and the entire experience was relaxing, and I left looking beautiful and confident with my new look. Getting married during Covid was already stressful - add on to the fact that our wedding date had to be moved up 4 days to beat the 2nd lockdown, I was scrambling to make all my vendors and appointments line up at the very, VERY last minute. But Natasha was a rockstar - I explained our predicament and she shifted our appointment on to her schedule (she wasn't the original hairstylist lined up), even going out of her way to reschedule things and come in on her off day to do my wedding day hairstyle. She styled with so much care and was OUTRAGEOUSLY easy to work with. What was a maddening situation turned out to be smooth sailing, in large part thanks to her above-and-beyond flexibility. Besides all that, Natasha is an artist with dyes - she hand-painted my gorgeous wedding day blonde a few weeks prior in a method she hadn't tried in years and I received raving compliments leading up to and even a month out from our wedding. I feel like it's kind of taboo to get a haircut during the pandemic, but my hair being long I only ever put it into ponytails and it was starting to give me scalp issues and my hair was falling out a lot more and I was just stressed about it all. So I went to Salon Mariposa where not only were their covid procedures top notch and everything was consistently being sanitized after use, but the owner Jennifer took the time to teach me all of the things I was oblivious to when it comes to taking care of your hair, scalp, and my precious curls. I am so incredibly appreciative to her for that, as it probably wouldn't have normally taken 2 hours of her time to give me a cut. She went above and beyond and gave me a deep conditioning treatment and helped blend my old hair dye into a nice subtle ombre with toner. This was my first time getting my hair done at this salon because of the great reviews and I'm new to the area. I got a partial color touch up, a cut, and she styled (curled) my hair. I highly just recommend ASKING PRICES prior to getting your service. I was shocked to pay over $200! Routinely, I have always paid half this price for the same services. *The salon also asks for a $10 COVID expense to cover PPE costs and sanitation supplies. (Which is no problem! They let me know this expense prior to my appointment). The salon was clean, had social distancing barriers and cleaning procedures were in action throughout my appointment. read more

I booked an apointment for Saturday at 1 pm with Janny. This was my first haircut in 7 years from having a very traumatic hair cut experience that scared me for life. It took alot for me to get up and go because I was scared they would chop my hair off. When I got there, I was very straight forward with Janny and told her I was nervous about the hair cutt, she was very reassuring and she LISTENED TO ME! She helped get rid of my dead ends without completely chopping my hair! She got rid of my dead ends and my hair is still long but it's healthy now it is all even and it feels so good. I also asked her to give me face framing layers which she helped me decided what length would be best for my hair. The whole time she was very reassuring and made me completely relax. I appreciated it so much. She turned a scary situation into something I enjoyed. I will defintely be back to have her cut my hair. Cancelled my appointment, I don't like feeling like I am inconveniencing them. I made my appointment on a Sunday night for that next week's Monday afternoon. I have my children in the mornings and am not able to make it any earlier then 1pm. The appointment looked a little funky to me because it had the foil first by one stylist and then a cut later by a different stylist. I called on Monday talked the Shawn, who informed me that this was fine and it was to avoid stylists from going over their hours. Great! Fast forward to Thursday, Shawn calls me asking why do I have two appointments booked with two separate stylists for Monday. I explain to her what she had explained to me a few days prior and she was able to recall the conversation. She asks me if I could come in earlier, I advise of my child care situation. She assures me everything is fine, see you on Monday. Monday morning, 9:50 am Shawn calls me to inform me that there is an opening at 11 that just became available if I wanted to come in early for my foil. I again advise her of my child care situation and there was no way for me to be there in 70 minutes. She informs me that the stylist that was scheduled to do my foil at 1:30 called out sick so I can either come in at 11 and be foiled or come in at 4:30 to get my hair cut and we would have to reschedule the foil some other day and time. The lady who could do the foil at 11 was not available at 1:30, something about someone going over her hours. At this point I am annoyed and asked Shawn to just cancel my appointment. Obviously it was just not meant to be. Shawn calls me back a few minutes later offering me my original appointment time saying that the stylist that was available at 11 was willing to stay late and past her hours to foil and cut my hair at my original appointment time of 1:30. I declined as politely as I could and here is why. I don't want to feel guilty for being in that chair. I don't want to have an overworked stylist rushing to foil and cut my hair. What price will I pay if she decides to cut corners and rush the process? I wanted to go and have a nice self-care day and not have to worry about the lady that is working on my hair watching the clock because there was some place she was supposed to be. That's how mistakes are made and lord knows how many phone calls I will have with Shawn to schedule appointments to fix it. I don't know the stylist so it is only a poor assumption that an error could happen. This is not a review on her. Past horrible hair experience with disgruntled stylists from poorly run salons have taught me valuable lessons the hard way. I will try some place else where it isn't so difficult to keep an appointment. read more
