This place did terribly. First off the stylist was late. Didn't say anything or made any comment about it. Then as the coloring process started they got the wrong color. After 3 failed attempts to get the color even close to what was asked the stylist had to ask another person for help, and started to cry in the back. No one had yelled or was disrespectful to her throughout this process. Leaving the hair damaged and dry and after spending 6 hours and $200 it was not worth trying to give any more time to fix this issue. The owner then called and wanted to set another appointment to "fix" what was done. Do you really think after 3 attempts and 2 stylists that we would want to give anymore time to this company?! Their license should be revoked, and I encourage anyone who considers this place to really rethink their decision.

April may be talented, and the shop owner, but what is also true is that she certainly seems rather full of herself as well. My take home experience is this: It DOESN'T MATTER who you are, what you were promised, or how long you wait. I wasn't allowed to be upset. A long relationship with the salon isn't even good enough for consideration. Apparently, If it's not April's way, you aren't worth it to her. I'm growing out a vivid hair color (really bleached ends) and since it's my last year of professional school, I was shopping around for a decent cut and a "normalizing" color. I live in Temple/Belton and am doing a professional rotation in New Braunfels...so I only had 5 weeks to have something done. My best friend has been singing the praises of this salon for several years. While her original stylist is no longer with us, she has been a customer here for over 7 years. She says April is talented with color and curly hair...but fills up quickly and an appointment wouldn't be available for over a month and a half. A color correction would take a long time. And be pricey, But it would be worth it. We made the appointment and I waited excitedly for the chance to have a true transformation. Calling to confirm, all of a sudden, the promised appointed wasn't what was scheduled. It would be a single color application, a cut and no room for anything else. She was booked...there was NO ROOM for extra time or services. But my friend swore that I would get a good service and if I could lower my expectations for a transformation, and accept that, that I would still look great. April has offered no explanation for the communication mixup in the appointment scheduling. I arrived 20 minutes early and waited outside. Once my friend got there, we checked in for my appointment. We were told to wait...and were NOT given any more information. After 30 minutes, my friend looked in to find April, working on a client. 45 minutes later, April comes out. I was visibly upset but still she DOES NOT SPEAK TO ME. DOES NOT MAKE EYE CONTACT NOR APOLOGIZE TO ME. She apologized to my friend, and said that she added on services to the client before me (remember there was NO time for any extra services for me). So when my friend asked if I would be getting my full time, she said yes but when asked me what I wanted, she offered to reschedule. Yes, I said loudly and with tears in my eyes that I didnt have TIME to reschedule. (I am sorry for that outburst, but we were outside, I was several feet away, I turned my face to the sky, and there were extenuating circumstances.) I was so disappointed. My rotation was only going to be 2 more weeks. I'm not local, I had put off seeing my family for the weekend for these services. I had another rotation in another city, and I had been so looking forward to this and I certainly couldn't wait another 6 weeks. My next sentence was started in a lower volume, and with more control to tell her these things. But I didn't get to finish... She wouldn't listen. Cut me off. Said she wouldn't deal with either of us and we could both leave. April walked inside, locked the door. (My friend had an appt the next day-we were not sure if would even happen.) So, don't get your hopes up and whatever else DO NOT get upset

The handicap spot in front of the business. No signage saying it is for her salon.

It was around 6:00 PM, on November 11th. Veterans Day. Trying to find a spot to park in a crowded parking lot, my friend and I , both handicapped veterans, found a handicap parking spot in front of this Salon. Being that it was so late, and they closed within an hour, I don't see why there would be any issue. As soon as we got out of the vehicle we were confronted by the business owner.(April Smith) She asked if we were supposed to be parking there, my friend explained that he has DV plates and his front license plate was stolen, police report and replacement already in the works. and she could check his backend plate to confirm. We turned to walk away and she continued to say "well you don't LOOK handicapped". I responded that "not all handicap veterans are visibly handicapped" then she made up an excuse about her having a business and something about the parking spot. But they are not HER parking spots. There are no signs saying they are hers. at this point I was furious and just walked away from the situation. Because she wasn't worth wasting my time and clearly has ZERO respect for Veterans who aren't missing body parts or visibly impaired. If this ABLIEST woman is going to own a business in front of 2 handicap spots and act like this, she needs to move her business some place else.

    What I asked for

Below are photos of what I asked for, verses what I got. The hair cut is just not what I asked for. The lady was level 2. I didn't even come home from the salon with the correct hair style. It's not like I just can't do it, but it was the incorrect cut. I told her I'd style it for myself and see if I can live with it. I didn't think it was a horrible cut...it's just not what I asked for. One week later, the feathering is just too choppy, not smooth (it has been choppy all week). I called for a recut and was told to come in with it styled (check) and they'd re cut it. They woud not wash it first, though, only recut it with all the product I had in it. I had freeze hairspray in it. She said they would absolutely not wash it before they cut it. I said I'd go to another salon. You see, the day I got it cut, when she first cut it and blow dried it it was clear it was the wrong cut. I told her that, and we both agreed, it needed to be cut again. She did a little re-cutting, but her next appointment came in and she rushed me out of there and told me I'd have to come back if I wanted it cut more. So, I was already put out that I came in, with an appointment, and given the wrong cut, twice really, and sent away with the wrong cut, so she could get to her next appointment (what!?). A week later, they want to cut it again dry (which will not work on my hair). I was going to have the highlights put in my hair, but I'll have someone else do it who is interested in doing it right. Thumbs down for this salon in my book.

Patchy color all the way through the hair it's so ugly!

If possible Salon Lumen would be ranked as 0 stars. I recommend you to steer clear of this salon for any hair dye inquires! I swear you are better off doing it yourself for way less the price. I was at the salon for 6 hours on the salon chair for nothing. I was assigned to the hair dresser Angelica. I requested a half down vibrant indigo purple color and Angelica quoted me a $280 estimated figure. As Angelica lined the hair I notice she didn't really do the tips and the roots of hair that great but she mentioned it was all good so I left it at that. Angelica asked April (the main hair dresser I suppose) her advice and April said it was good to wash out. As you can see my end results were a complete nightmare. There was even pieces where it was just bleached and no hair dye. How unprofessional! The tips were faded, the hair was patchy all the way through. April tried justifying the situation by saying ridiculous things that honestly do not make sense because on their Instagram page they have had "customers" dye their hair a full different color and to top it off my hair was all natural with no dye. After my experience I was skeptical to believe that those photos were even from customers at Salon Lumen Even after the salon tried to fix their mistake the problem was still very relevant and so so patchy even after April attempted to "fix" it herself. There really is only so much they can do at this salon and clearly the capacity is low. In the end I was charged $278 which April apparently gave me a 20% discount. The quoted amount was for $280 so clearly she raised the price for her convenience to make up for products used as she mentioned. I clearly asked "oh so I am being charged for people's mistakes?" April clearly confirmed she wasn't going to charge for people's mistakes but then made the derogatory claim to so say that we are paying for products used during the mistakes made. Overall, unprofessionally "trained" hair dressers named April and Angelica. You are better off doing it yourself at Sally's.

    Brazilian Blowout

Hidden gem! I found this place on Google. Was looking for a Brazilian Blowout salon that had good reviews and offered a "traditional" Brazilian Blowout. Let me elaborate: For the past year or so I have been to 2 other salons who performed what I like to refer to as a "modified" Brazilian Blowout ... that is, they washed my hair, applied the solution, then either set me under a dryer, or ran their fingers through my hair as they blow-dried it, as opposed to the traditional way of "round brush" drying it. There is a marked difference when you go the traditional way, let me tell you, and the results are lasting! My hair is smooth, straight, and I am one happy girl today. The salon itself is extremely clean and organized, and they offer you a complimentary beverage of your choice upon arrival. My stylist, Kennedy, was down to earth, friendly, and easy to talk to. She initially lead me to a dressing room which contained a full-length mirror and a set of clean robes for you to select from and wear. I was extremely surprised and blessed that I found this place after enduring a horrible experience at another local salon and then driving all the way to Austin(!) at one point, in desperate search of a certified Brazilian Blowout salon...only to be met with a similar fate. Do not let any salon or stylist try to convince you that they do not need to "round-brush-dry" the product in. It's essential. I'm so happy that Kennedy understood and empathized with my plight. Thank you, Salon Lumen, for being there!

Honestly I have nothing but Amazing things to say about this place and how it is ran. First of all…read moreI had Kassandra and she was AMAZING. She is so sweet and professional and caring and you can tell she truly cares about her clients. I had gotten my hair done years ago from another salon and they bleached and butchered my hair so I was so nervous to come to another salon to get it done. But Kassandra took the time to listen and my hair is BEAUTIFUL! She is an expert on hair cuts as well, I went from long hair with no volume or definition to beautiful long layers with bangs that frame my face, I got a balayage done and now that I have lived here for 5 years I think I have found my new salon. Also a big shoutout to the owners as well, Roger was super professional and you can tell very proud of his studio he runs it well, he checks on every single client that comes in to make sure all the stylist are doing PERFECT work. I seriously cannot say how amazing this place was the two times I have come. Thank you Kassandra and Roger for making me feel beautiful:) you guys are doing amazing and I hope your company flourishes . If you are feeling iffy about this place, don't, because they are amazing .

I went in for a partial balayage and clearly explained that I wanted the TOP of my hair highlighted. I even showed multiple reference photos to make sure there was no confusion. Instead, the stylist focused on the bottom of my hair and gave me very minimal "baby highlights," which was not what I asked for at all. On top of that, I specifically requested that my gray hair be covered, yet I left the salon with a visible patch of gray still in the back of my head. I was also quoted $50 for a haircut beforehand, but was later told it would be $70--and the haircut itself was barely noticeable despite me asking for layers. What made the experience even worse was being asked to pay the full amount BEFORE the service was completed. This made me feel uncomfortable and pressured, especially when it came to tipping, since I hadn't even seen the final result yet. In total, I paid $360 ($50 deposit + $270 service + additional charges), and I left feeling completely dissatisfied. I couldn't even sleep that night because I felt like I had been taken advantage of. I immediately expressed my concerns to the stylist and asked about a partial refund. I was told the owner would contact me on Tuesday--but he never did. I had to follow up myself. When I finally spoke to him, he was dismissive, defensive, and aggressive. Instead of addressing my concerns professionally, he stated he would review audio and video recordings of my conversation with the stylist--which was also concerning, as customers are not made aware that their conversations may be recorded. He then told me he would "challenge" my dispute and abruptly hung up. This was, without question, the worst customer service experience I've ever had. Between the poor results, lack of transparency, pricing inconsistencies, and unprofessional handling of my complaint, I would strongly advise others to think twice before going here. This place deserves no stars!

No callback, no communication, nothing. Because I couldn't get through to anyone, I had no choice but to go there in person just to ask about appointment availability--only to be told they don't take walk-ins. The lack of basic customer service and communication is unacceptable. If you expect people to schedule ahead, the least you can do is answer your phone. Very disappointing experience. My stylist was Lili, I don't think I would return or recommend, especially for the money spent and dissatisfaction of the results. Also, I understood that the salon was located downtown and how I would have to pay for parking because of it, however, I had even asked via text message if they recommended a place to park which they were helpful in sending a picture of one and with it showing their side door for me to enter on the weekend. However, when I got up to the salon, they had asked me for my license plate information to cover or waive the parking expense. Unfortunately, this information wasn't relayed to me in advance that they would be covering the parking expense and the parking lot states you have to pay when you park and when I told her I had already paid for it nobody told me anything even when I asked ahead where to park, Lili's response was "oh well next time." It would have been nice to save the $21.56 that I had spent for 2 hours of parking. Again, super appreciative that they even offer this it's just nice that if it is offered that the information is relayed so I could have appreciated/benefited from it as well.

They pointed me to Whitney Lee, so I booked a consultation. Whitney was so down to earth and sweet, she seemed genuinely excited to work on my hair. She said for what she had planned, it'd be a maintenance cut, so less expensive than the transformation cut. Whitney took excellent care of my curls, doing a dry cut (or carving as they call it) to get the overall rounded shape I'd been wanting. Then, she washed and conditioned my hair, did some wet hair trimming, and taught me how to rope my curls in much thinner ringlets. She also said my hair was fine, which I had NO idea! I always thought that since I had so much hair, and so poofy, it was thick, but nope! My hair is fine! Anyway, Whitney added some more moisture, then diffused my hair, used a hair pick to give it more volume, and tidied up some loose ends. My curls had never looked so good, like they finally reached their fullest potential. I've taken what I've learned from Whitney and began applying it to my hair. For the longest time I hated my curly hair. It was a tangled rat's nest and I always opted to flat iron it. Now, I'm in love with my shiny, bouncy curls. I am happy to be Whitney's new client, she did a phenomenal job.
