That is what happens when your mom cuts your hair all the way through high school. You get kind of spoiled. You know what I mean? No? You dont? I watched the stylist and her customer walk to the checkout. The stylist then said, "I'm sorry, I have a 1:00 PM appointment." At that point, it was 12:53 PM. We had already been waiting for about 30 minutes with my toddler and child. It was frustrating to feel like we were being overlooked because the stylist had another appointment coming in. She should have said that from the moment we walked in!!! The lady then said, "I can ask her?" (Ask who--the customer? The customer was standing right there listening.) Then she asked if it was okay, and the customer said, "No, I have to be somewhere." We all have places to be. I had already waited 30 minutes with my children. Don't assume they accept walk-ins. Once they have greeted you and you have waited. Appointment ONLY. I guess? We have never been to that location and will never go back.

I'm in a bit of a hurry, but the stylist is just standing there inspecting my roots. "Who does your hair?" she asks, in a tone of wonder, like maybe she had to move to a better salon pronto. So I sit back and tell her about my girl Amy. I mentioned that Amy used to be in my neighborhood and opened her own sweet salon that was, sadly, further away from me. I was told in no uncertain terms to suck it up. "Don't ever stop going to her," said this SOMA stylist who's presumably seen it all. "She completely knows what she's doing." And that's the truth. Amy knows her color, she knows her cuts - she truly is a professional. I go to her because she's the best. But there's more - Amy has this calm, unflappable demeanor that is so refreshing, but she's not afraid to tell it like it is. She's a grownup. There are great salons in my neighborhood - awesome ones. But I keep going back to Amy because when I'm going through a phase of "I've totally got to go red to fix my life", she'll tell me all the cons of red hair - bitch to maintain, fades easily, only works with certain complexions. Or when I'm thinking "I hate my long hair and I've got to chop three inches off", she'll just raise up her eyebrows and say 'Are you sure?" with deep concern. Make no mistake, if I want it Amy will do it, it's just that she's got my best interests at heart. She doesn't pull any punches. Amy is cool too - she goes to Crossfit and is buff as all get out, she's an entrepreneur running her own gig, and she's doing the whole juggling of kids, hubby and career thing with aplomb. I also love how when I feel like moaning about my latest dating or business mishap we can talk forever, but when work or other stuff is preoccupying me she just does her skilled thing on my head and lets me chill. And every time I am there she inspects my hair critically with a fresh eye, she assumes nothing. I know she has high expectations for my hair - it had better behave for her. Someone who does the right thing for you, not necessarily the trendy thing, or the expensive thing. That's what I want in a stylist, and that's why I'm a lifer with Ms. Amy.

This salon is so nice, plays good music, and parking is easy peasy. I've noticed that all the stylists are friendly with each other and it's an environment where you can decompress and just relaaaax. The star of my review is Anh! She's so talented, skilled, and simply the best. She's touched and blessed my hair in ways I cannot live without. She's corrected my hair from a terrible highlight job and gave me a beautiful balayage. I've gone pink with Anh and she started me off with a magenta that faded into the most delicate pastel pink. It was a TIME. It was the MOMENT. I always go to Anh to touch up my hair and no one else touched my hair. And when I went from blonde to brunette, she gave me a color that started out dark brown and then slowly became a gorgeous, sweet, and rich brown. It was a long process, and expensive ($230 with coupon!) but it turned out beautiful! Christine told me to only brush with my fingers and not wash it for 2 days. However, by the 2nd day, the hair on top was almost completely straight and barely any curls on the bottom. She said it should last a few months?! I will call today and hopefully they will fix it.

Aaron has been the family stylist for my husband's family for years. Per recommendation we brought our son in and we've been going to Aaron ever since. Aaron has mastered the art of cutting Alexander's hair. He does it with patience, grace and gets it done in less than 10 minutes while Alex cries... because you know, getting a haircut hurts. Aaron does an amazing job of keeping his cool and I am always satisfied with the cut. He makes sure to get the cut just short enough and perfectly styled for a little boy. Cuts use to be $15 but have gone up to $20 since we started. Regardless, the kid needs a cut 2-3x a year, last time was the first time he didn't cry and he always gets a toy. For cuts, color and styling my family recommends seeing Sue or Aaron.

Also, the salon is beautifully decorated with art from her travels and live orchids that she arranges. She is a true artist and I won't go anywhere else!
