Pretty crazy, eh? I've been getting my haircut from Sherry probably for around 10-12 years. She's been cutting my hair for so long she knows me better than most my friends! I love coming to her because she knows exactly what I want and it only takes about 20 minutes. If you are looking to go somewhere new I would highly recommend Hair Solutions. I love the smaller salon feeling that Jonathan's has, while still offering all the amenities of a larger salon. When the hair salons reopened, the salon Cate was originally working, really wasn't following the recommendations of the CDC and St Louis County guidelines. She wanted a safe place to work and a safe place for her clients to return too. So, she found Jonathan's. Let me repeat, I am so glad that she did. First off, I love how she cuts my hair. I prefer scissor cuts to a clipper with a snap comb attached, which so many use for a mans hair-cut. She takes the time to totally scissor my hair and only uses a clipper to trim up my neckline. We've had a professional relationship/friendship going on 15 years. Now, why I am so glad she moved. Jonathan's is really protective of their staff and clients. When you arrive, outside they have a table where you are required to spray the bottoms of your shoes with a sanitizer. Once you enter, if you don't have your own personal mask, they'll provide you one. They also, provide gloves for the clients to wear while in the salon. In addition to these protective measures, they sanitize the chairs and workstations in between each client. I feel totally safe! A bonus of coming here, is the other staff members. If you are just going to get your hair cut, they will do an excellent job. My sister also gets her hair dyed here all the time and leaves perfectly satisfied. Unfortunately, what I would NOT recommend is coming to get a balayage treatment done. I have never dyed my hair in the past and decided to do something different for a change. Having coming from Manhattan, I was intent on trying something different for $200 as opposed to $500. I figured with balayag being a very trendy style right now, the stylist had to have a ton of practice. After all, It is pretty hard to mess up -- especially when I show you a picture before hand. When I came in, I was completely brunette. And when I left I did not have a balayage (where my brown hair would gradually turn into blonde) but on the contrary, I was completely blonde with dark roots. Really not at all like a balayage. In fairness, my hair is extremely long. And thick. The appointment itself took 3 hours. I feel that the error came from both lack of experience and also management of time. We ran 30 minutes over into the next client's appointment (poor thing) and I felt like it was a rushed job. She didn't end up actually styling my hair because she ran out of time. I suppose a little of this is on me because I should have ensured she REALLY LOOKED at the picture. I was like here's the picture. She very quickly relied "oh I totally got it! I can do that" This was several months back and the reason I write about it now is because I now am having to pay almost $500 for a color correcting and CORRECT balayage. Moral of the Story: salon dacota is great. Just not for balayage. If you are wanting to do that, splurge and go somewhere that specializes otherwise you may end up paying more. Hope this is helpful!

Sara is our go-to detangler for my daughter, who is 8 years old, mixed, and has naturally curly hair that tangles and dreads very easily. When her hair gets to the point where we can't comb it out at home, Sara steps in with so much patience, skill, and care. She has a gentle technique that allows her to slowly and carefully work through the toughest tangles without hurting my daughter's head. That alone means everything as a parent. We've been to Sara about 2-4 times specifically for the detangling process. While it is an investment (about $100 per hour and usually takes 2-3 hours), she gets the job done--and done right. I'm always apologizing for letting my daughter's hair get to that point and feeling bad that she has to sit through it, but Sara never makes us feel judged. She's kind, understanding, and incredibly professional. The alternative, cutting her hair off--is way scarier, and thanks to Sara, we don't have to go there. If you're a parent of a mixed child or a child with very curly hair and you're feeling overwhelmed, book with Sara. She is worth every penny, and I'm beyond grateful for her care and expertise.
