I want to start by saying a huge thank you to DNA Salon. They have some of the best people working there--so friendly, welcoming, and providing excellent service overall. I had very frizzy hair and first had my hair colored a day before my keratin treatment with Marlon. After the coloring, I was worried because the color didn't seem to show, and I had a flight coming up in a day or two. I called back, and I was reassured that the color would develop after the keratin treatment. True to their word, after the keratin treatment, the color came out perfect. It was exactly what I hoped for, so I highly recommend trusting their process. The treatment made my life so much easier. Their advice on the best treatments for my hair was invaluable. I'm leaving this review nine months after my treatments, and I'm thrilled to report that my hair has improved significantly. It's healthier and thicker than before. I'll be returning soon for touch-ups, and my sisters and everyone around me have been giving compliments. DNA Salon is the only place I trust completely with my hair. The two men that helped my mom and I were upbeat and happy to help us. We were in town for a wedding so we wanted to get our hair curled for the wedding. It was a little hard/confusing to get into the salon. It's on the second floor and they have to buzz you in, which they didn't tell us. We left satisfied and happy with our hair. Just an update to my original review: Salon DNA is still the BEST salon in San Francisco. I've been a client of Daniel Miller for over 30 years now. No one else has cut my hair! Daniel's a master stylist and colorist who trained under Vidal Sassoon. We've become great friends over that time, and I highly recommend him. His wife, Adelice, is also a brilliant stylist and colorist and is very dedicated to her clients. The staff at Salon DNA is still the friendliest group in town. So what are you waiting for? I had a terrible experience with Luciano for a braided updo. When I called to request an appointment, I specifically said I wanted a Dutch crown braid and had shoulder length hair. The receptionist told me they would have Luciano perform the service, since he was more experienced with braids. On the day of the appointment, Luciano was 15 minutes late due to "parking issues." When he finally showed up, I showed him a picture of exactly what I wanted, and he started to braid. He didn't check in with me while he was braiding, and when I noticed that it wasn't looking like the picture, I corrected him once, then a second time, and then he said that he couldn't do the braid as in the picture because my hair was too short. I understood then that he was going to do something else instead, and I resigned myself to walking out with a minimally tolerable hairstyle. Even then, I still had to correct him multiple times to fix parts that looked obviously bad. If Luciano had started our appointment by telling me that my hair was too short for the picture, or even at the point that he did finally say that, if he had proposed an alternate style and sought my input and approval, then I wouldn't be giving this 1-star review. As it was, he barely communicated what was happening, didn't check in with me, and did a poor job. read more

I'm beside myself after experiencing this level of aggressive unprofessionalism following the worst haircut of my life. I went in for a trim and left with some pieces of hair completely untouched and other parts chopped so rough it looks like it was done with kitchen scissors. There is one chunk of hair that is roughly cut and about 3 to 4 inches shorter than then rest of the hair. I explicitly asked him to not touch my bangs and he cut them anyways, there are now bangs on the side of my head. When I reached out and emailed the salon regarding my haircut, I received this text message from Danny Miller himself, who accused me of going home and doing this to myself. This review is for Hair with Daniel! He's AMAZING. After living in the Bay Area for over 5+ years, I had never established a hair stylist I loved. As a brown woman, I often had less than pleasurable experiences in downtown SF salons. After a year of not doing anything to my hair bc COVID, I took the leap with Daniel! I felt incredibly safe, he double masked and had his chair spotless. Daniel takes HIS TIME, deff don't feel like another slot on someone's calendar. His products are all high end and great quality. I felt really comfortable for the first time ever in a salon and for that I'm so incredibly grateful. The salon itself is large for SF standards. Adelice is a master of her craft! I have fine, wavy, frizzy hair in my natural almost-but-not-quite blonde color. I came in for an anti-frizz treatment and extensions, admittedly ready to be told there was nothing to be done due to the fragility of my hair. Not so!! Adelice was able to match extensions perfectly to my color and texture, and knew exactly what to do to get the results I needed! Her work is anything but formulaic, she pays close attention to my specific hair needs. She was gentle with my head, and sweet and so encouraging during our consultation. As she installed my extensions, a client of the salon walked by who's been going to her and her husband for 35 years. I think that says it all!! I will 100% be going back, over and over. I cannot recall exactly how long I've been seeing Daniel Miller but at least one or two years before COVID hit. I had been getting the Brazilian blowouts at different salons over the years with several salons using the original Brazilian blowout brand. The treatments lasted about 3-6 months, differing from each salon, but I did notice my hair still felt a little crispy at the ends sometimes and would break off. Going to Daniel for the first time, he told me that their salon uses their own keratin treatment called DNA Magic, that comes from a company in Brazil. This product definitely lasts about 6 months and my hair feels so soft and smooth immediately after the treatment. My hair know alerts me when it needs to see Daniel again and I would on longer go anywhere else for this treatment =) Daniel takes his time and makes each visit entertaining. It's a late review cause I still not over it. After some research on internet looking for a nice place to have my highlights done I booked it , I was there in time but have to wait for 20 minutes to be seated. I have medium fine hair, length not long than my shoulders and it took me SEVEN hours to have my highlights done, SEVEN hours, in my entire life it never took more than 3 hours to have my highlights done . I was tired, pain in my neck, back and butt, I told the hair stylist Alex that was working in my hair that the product was burning my ears and he start yelling at me saying that I was being good the whole time but now I was just behaving like he last costumer, he was so mad because I had move and clean my ear by myself. He even told me if I ruined his work that would be all my fault. At this point I just wanted to leave that place even he apologises like 10 times making things even worse, I just wanted to leave that place asap. Long story short, the price on website displays highlights from $120 what was ok for me, but I ended up paying $ 400 without any explanation, to make thinks more uncomfortable Alex was in a hurry to go home because of course it was late ( oh boy don't tell me sitting there for 7 hours ) he asked me if I could tip him on cash because he was leaving. Seven hours , $ 400 what was that ? my bride day ? I still feel robed, insulted and disrespect. read more

If you have type 4 hair and are looking for a Brazilian blowout, please DO NOT go to this salon! I have type 4b / 4c hair and been getting Brazilian blowouts for over 10 years with no issues, and tried this place out after moving to SF and being referred to them by another salon - my biggest regret ever. My hair is heat damaged beyond repair and has been falling out non-stop since my blowout 6 months ago. My hair has completely lost its thickness and length and the breakage won't stop no matter what I try. Even though the salon assured me I was in good hands, the stylist barely knew what kind of comb to use on my hair - it's clear they're only experienced with looser curl patterns. I'm heartbroken and just hope to stop this from happening to someone else! read more

To say that Adelice is brilliant would be an understatement. She is an artist! A master in her craft! I had recently taken the plunge to get hair extensions, since a lot of my hair had fallen out due to stress, but the application didn't work very well... Because my hair is so thin, the glue was visible, so I was extremely self-conscious about them. Everyone at Salon DNA is professional and gave me a warm welcome when I walked through the door. I saw Adelice for a consultation, and she said, "Don't worry, I will fix it for you." And fix it she did!! Wow, the difference is like night and day. I don't have to wear a hat anymore to hide glue - you can't see these extensions AT ALL, even when it's windy outside! Adelice is a genius - and she's so kind. She and Daniel were so patient taking my extensions out (no easy task), and she completely transformed my hair. She took time and care, and I could tell this was something she had years of experience doing. The extensions she put in are so light and look incredibly natural - I feel like a movie star. She blended the colors perfectly, too. I can now wear my hair up in a ponytail without any bond showing! She has found a lifetime client in me - I can't imagine trusting anyone else with my hair. LOVE my cut from Daniel. He did a great job at the beginning of understanding what I was looking for and what my haircare routine was to be sure to give me a look that I could maintain myself. I've tried to nail this look at a couple other salons and they couldn't quite get it. Well, Daniel set the bar! He is also *so good* at blowouts.
