I went in to have my hair styled after a year of growing out my COVID quarantine hair, and just serendipitously was given an appointment with Shannon. It was a great experience, Shannon was personable, experienced, helped me find a great new style, and explained to me how to use the right products for my hair type. Arriving my dry curly hair was down my back to shoulder blades. Leaving my dry curly hair was barely touching top of my shoulders. I have extremely curly hair. Upon explaining my hair situation with the receptionist she offered 2 'experienced stylists with curly hair'. If you want a stylist who does not hear nor listen, then this is the salon for you. If you want a stylist who does not follow instructions, then this is the salon to choose. If you want a stylist who clearly does not know the attributes nor character of curly hair, then this salon is for you. I've had mostly positive experiences at this place. The atmosphere is upbeat and modern. The staff are mostly friendly and accommodating. They even offer you a drink while you are waiting! The place is pricey but I don't think they are outrageous compared to equivalent salons. I've only had my hair cut by Ken and he is awesome--very down to earth and friendly. He also does a great job. I have my eyebrows waxed regularly by Rosanne and she is awesome. I also had a pre-wedding facial by her--very relaxing and soothing and the results were great. For the eyebrows and facials, you lay on a table and soft music plays in a dimly lit room. You definitely feel pampered. My only negative experience has been with a stylist named Keri. She did a trial run hair style before my wedding and it was disastrous. I was told that she was "the" updo pro at the place but I was anything but pleased. In fact, getting a hair trial run was the only negative part of my entire "getting ready to get married process." She is quite snooty and makes you feel as though you should know exactly what you want before you come in. Hello, she's the professional. Not me. She even used the phrase "It doesn't matter to me what you do with your hair." Not something a bride-to-be wants to hear. We ran out of time at the end of my appointment because she scheduled another appointment close to mine so another girl had to help finish me up. Definitely money wasted. read more

Wow, did this salon save my butt! I called them in a panic to get color done. I had a cut at T&G town center the day before and was scheduled for highlights to be done that day. Because I was late (totally my fault) and because the colorist was taking a week off, they could not do it for a week. Unfortunately, I am headed out of town to work for two months. Not only did they get me an appointment that day, Heidi did a great job on the highlights. I am in my mid 60s and have decided to enhance the grey rather than cover it as I have been doing for the last few years. She nailed it! The best blonde highlights I have had. Blends with the grey and dark brown. Perfect for my facial coloring, too. Also, she explained to me why my newly received haircut was failing. I agreed to let her shape it as long as she did not take off any more length. Since the stylist at T&G took about an inch more than she should have (picture was provided) it was waay too short. She did exactly what she said she would do, and my new style is now manageable. And, while I won't keep it this short, it looks so much better. She was very nice, friendly and clearly very good at both cutting and color. She was also very diplomatic about a terrible cut that I had just gotten. (The front sides were not even, the list goes on... ) I am a customer for life. The salon is very chic. There is a spa, also. Prices were in line with a good salon. The products she used were right on target. I bought one of them.... I highly recommend this salon and Heidi. Great customer service. read more

I wasnt able to make it in for a service with Shannon. I left a message for him at the salon, to see if I would be able to accomplish what I would like before making the appointment. I saw his ad on groupon and the reviews were nice, so I called. It wasnt my intention to buy the groupon., but he insisted that he didnt want to discount his services? And that he had been in the business for so many years..... he was very angry. I tried to interrupt to let him know my intentions were to make an appointment to cut and color but didnt want to take a block of his time if the color I wanted, wouldnt be possible. (I thought since i am in the neighborhood, maybe we could do a quick consult in person b4 scheduling his time. But he didnt give me the opportunity to say anything. He curtly, interrupted me, by saying "now you hold on!" to continue his angry rant! Of course at this point, I was no longer interested in doing business with him, and hung up. I'm not typically a review writer, however I couldn't pass up a chance to give a shout out to the receptionist at Salon Deep...ABIGAIL. Last week I called to make an appointment and then called back a few hours later needing to book a whole new scenario...adding in a friend to the appointment and changing the services and the day all together. Abigail was super patient, super sweet and let me ask a million questions and confirm the details way too many times. Honestly, I feel like good customer service is a dying art/skill and Abigail reminded me why it makes such a big difference when someone takes the time to pay attention to all of the little details. I have been seeing Renee for the past decade and I would never go anywhere else. I trust her to make the right decision with my hair and never let me do anything I may regret later. At one point I wanted to go red and she talked me down because she knows how anal I am with my hair and how often I wash it. I would have been coming back every couple weeks to get it touched up, which would be great for her but not so great for me. I trust her and so does my entire family. The salon itself is always very clean and tidy. Hair isn't left on the floor too long after its cut their stations always are immaculate. I have nothing bad to say about this place in 10 years. read more

I scheduled a facial appt three weeks ago with this salon. (First one ever). I get a call today ( the day of the facial) and they want to reschedule because someone has a dental appt tonight. They could have called me days ago and I could have scheduled something different. The day of is too late, last minute, and very unprofessional. Serves me right for getting a Groupon for this. I now have to fight to get a refund!!! My schedule does not allow for easy changes as I travel for a living and made sure to be in town this week because of this appt. 4 months ago I went there for a hair straightening. I was told that it will be a keratin one. Once I go to the saloon the stylist told me keratin won't work on my hair so he will use a relaxer but assured me it is completely safe. He put the relaxer and after washing it off told me to not wash my hair for 48 hours although it still smelled like a chemical. 4 months later I am bold on the back of my head and my hair keeps falling like crazy! I have very thick and curly hair that has never shed a single hair! Now it all looks dead and is falling no matter what $40 shampoo and conditioner I use! The worst place in the wold! I'm only giving this a 1 star because there is no way to give it less! read more

I've been seeing Liz for the last year +, & have referred her to family members. Everyone has loved what she's done to their style/color. I highly recommend this salon anytime someone asks. I love this salon. I have been coming here for years. The service I receive is the best. I have been seeing Liz Phillips for at least 12 years. She is awesome with my curly hair! I came in for a groupon and initially worked with Shannon. He was firm in not wanting to do layers in my hair, which I was fine with, but I was very clear I wanted shape to the bottom and did not want a straight chop on the bottom. He was very nice and professional, but I left feeling uneasy as the haircut was very quick, he really only worked on the ends, and seemed to cut straight across. After getting a chance to look at my hair better and having other people comment negatively, I asked to come back into the salon and get it fixed because not only was it cut very straight across, it was completely uneven (pieces in the same section were 3 varying lengths but all straight bottomed). I came back in and Sherri was my stylist. She was understanding of my concerns and professionally addressed my feelings that my last cut had been rushed and not what I asked for. When she washed my hair and sectioned it out it was very clear how uneven it was. She was very sweet and did a fantastic job texturing out my hair. I left with the haircut I wanted and would absolutely come back to see her. In the end, with the groupon and tips twice, I ended up spending ~$70 for a haircut that should have been ~$45. While the Salon did the right thing in not charging me for the second haircut, I basically paid full price and had to come in twice. read more

Let me give you some background... I only go to salons maybe once or twice a year because of how often stylists screw up my hair. After a few bad experiences at places that charge $30-$45 I decided I'd try something different and heard Chris Nicholson was a little more upscale. I figured spending $60 at a nice place would insure the stylist was legit. When I first walked in the receptionist was nice, even asked if I wanted something to drink. I told her I'd like a water since I'd been running around all day doing errands and hadn't had anything to eat or drink yet. She said sure and left, but she must have forgotten because I sat for 30 minutes waiting and when she returned she sat back down at her desk without a glance in my direction. Finally when Jodie-or JD-the "Master" stylist came out to greet me, I spent maybe 2 minutes talking her through the cut I wanted before she rushed me off to the shampoo area. A good stylist typically spends 10-25 minutes consulting you on what you want done-less than that only if it's very simple or you're a regular. I even brought several pictures of the haircut, and even walked her through how difficult my hair is to work with. Instead of listening she went straight into parting my hair and started cutting away before making sure she knew exactly what I needed. I am not a difficult person, I'm polite and funny to be around, and I tip extremely well. (a tip from me is between $15-$20 and I'm not a wealthy person by any means) I even went to beauty school to become a stylist myself until I changed professions. This Jodie/JD did not spend enough time consulting me and ended up shaving off the back of my hair as if I were getting a buzz cut- she told me she was cleaning up my neck and for some reason continued to the middle of my head, She even cut way too much off the sides with the blending shears after I told her my hair was already too thin. Great F-ing job Jodie. I paid $75 for a reason to cry in my car over another failed haircut. read more

Chris always spends time on the little details and gives me the most beautiful cuts. I can't recommend him enough! I'm pretty particular after working in several salons through the years and have nothing but great things to say about my hair and the salon as a whole. I have visited Chris Nicholson Salon 3 times. The first 2 times were wonderful, and I felt as though they really cared about me. I was wrong. I made a 3rd visit after moving to Knoxville because I didn't want to find a new salon. I asked for interior layers and volume. The individual, who was a little older and had long, brown hair (I won't disclose her name) gave me EXTREMELY butchered exterior layers. Because of the way she dried my hair, I didn't notice how awful it was until I drove back to Knoxville and washed it again. I called them for a complaint and was told that they will only fix it if I came "within 2 weeks" which was unrealistic as I live in Tennessee. They did NOT care about me or my experience, and I feel like I wasted my time and money. I took pictures of my butchered hair and I will NEVER go to this salon again. I had a groupon, made an appointment same day, got a master stylist and he butchered my hair. I went from thick amazing hair to layers and thinning it out so much I have holes in the back. He insisted on thinning out my hair. I did tell him my hair is too coarse and thick for that but he said my haircut would look better. I did show him a picture with one length haircut but he ended up doing what he wanted. I've never hated my hair !!!! read more

Chris cuts my super straight hair for the past 13 years. Good fast service to get an appointment. He really cares about my hair and never does something that I didn't ask for. I came from another salon that I had been loyal to for years but one day the owner took some sick revenge and just butchered my hair. I came to Chris and he fixed it. My hair grow really fast so normally I wouldn't care but this was so out of the norm that it was never going to work. Never make me feel rushed but like I am important. Clean, caring and fun place to go. No judging me for my total lack of hair styling.. Chris knows fussing with my hair will never happen so he cuts it to look good and be wash and wear. He talked me out of coloring my grey streak and I was very glad. He also cuts and colors my daughter and son...for her, a dancer, model and busy gal he does a super job. Terrible Experience! Initially I had a consultation and provided pictures and instructions. 1st appointment - color ok but hair cut was not as I requested. 2nd appointment a week later to get the cut better. Haircut was still not what I requested and it was like I had two different cuts going on. 3rd appointment a week later with a different person. I showed this person my photos and provided instructions on how to cut the back. This was a disaster cut. Way too much hair cut off the back and little highlights remaining in back from the 1st appointment. Salon's solution is a $20 salon credit since there is nothing they can do about the color in back now because it is way too short. I will not be back in this salon and allow another person there to touch my hair with a pair scissors. If they cannot do what I requested, I would have preferred they tell me and then I would have gone somewhere else. Now I'm out money and hair. I am very unhappy with this salon and will not be return or recommend. read more
