I have been going to Denise for years now and she is the only person I allow to touch my hair! I have followed her to every salon she has worked at and when she opened her own place I couldn't have been more excited! I typically just show Denise a picture and she always gives me exactly what I am looking for! We are to the point though now that I trust her with my hair and will give her free rein to do what she wants! She is the best. I first heard of Salon d' Lauren through multiple people on Facebook. It had an insane amount of positive reviews and the pictures of the work Denise had done were amazing. I was confident that I'd receive the same results. I came to this salon a total of three times--today was my third. The first time I had gone in and I wanted an ombre'/balayage color. I showed Denise a picture of her own work that I saw on her Facebook page. Not only did Denise barely touch my hair (her assistant Priscilla did most of my hair, who is a doll by the way) but she left in the middle of my hair being toned. A simple "goodbye, thank you" would have sufficed but she simply left the salon. I tried not to take it personally and just shrugged it off. Consequently, the outcome of my hair was not what I wanted. Instead of ombré balayage, I got a chunk of brassy highlights that began at the top of my head and didn't really blend in naturally. I left because I had to go to work but I called and let them know I wasn't exactly happy with my hair, so I scheduled a second appointment to come fix it. Again, Denise did not touch my hair. Priscilla toned it (free of charge) and it looked much better, but again not what I wanted. Also, no apology from Denise. Not so much as a "hello" when I walked in, as she continued on in conversation with a friend. Anyway, I was told if I wanted ombré I would have to start the process all over again and it would take about three hours, plus another $150. Despite my shock at the price, considering this was what I wanted in the first place, we scheduled a third appointment. I was told that Denise would handle my hair this time (why not the first two times?) My appointment was at 9:00 am, and Denise did not show up. I decided to have a cup of coffee next door. It was at 9:30 that I messaged Priscilla letting her know I was leaving. She apologized profusely. I am disappointed in the lack of professionalism and that I did not receive the positive experience that so many others did. I do not know Denise personally so this could not have possibly been a personal issue, even though I eventually felt as such. UPDATE: Denise personally reached me on the phone and apologized profusely after reading my review. She was kind enough to reimburse me the initial amount I paid for my hair, which was very generous. The call itself showed that she was genuinely sorry for the experience I had. She also offered to do my hair free of charge should I return in the future. read more

NOT happy at ALL!!! I set my appt with Denise to do a tint , but had someone else do my roots instead. When I got to my car my greys were still there and it seemed nothing was done at all!!! NOT what I expected!! read more

I had gone to Salon D'Lauren to get my hair done for prom and also went a different time for color/cut. Great place to get your hair done! The staff was super friendly and professional! I felt very welcomed and listened to about my wants and needs for my hair. The owner Denise was super sweet and she did an amazing job. After researching professional stylist who do the balayage I came across Isabel. She was great and replied the same day. Came in for my Scheduled appointment and she was ready for me when I arrived. Denise the owner was also very kind as well as Priscilla! The place is so chic and clean It def had a great vibe and great music! Isabel answered all my questions I had being my first time dying my hair in such a big transformation. She went over my options and always giving me her best professional opinion, something many stylists don't do. She truly cared about her work. She was so cool we talked the entire time and it went by a breeze. She uses the best products on your hair. She has much experience and it reflects in her work. I am so happy I found this salon here in Whiting. This place is seriously a hidden gem! I will refer anyone to this salon! I have found an amazing professional stylist Isabel as well as salon. This salon is located in downtown Whiting, IN but upon entering, you feel like you're walking into a salon on the Northside of Chicago. It's trendy vibe is welcoming and so are the girls who work here. Denise has colored my hair 3 times, each time I show up with a photo of what I would like my hair to resemble and each time she nails it. Unlike other salons, I never feel rushed with Denise and she walks you through the process - so the end results are always great. 5 stars for sure! read more

The OWNER Denise is extremely unprofessional. I booked an appointment and confirmed the time the day before, and Denise was over an hour late. I had a WEDDING to go to that day- of which I was in, as I am THE MOTHER OF THE BRIDE, and Denise knew. The receptionist never gave me an exact time when Denise would be there; she chose to run errands before SHOWING UP TO HER JOB. She never apologized when she did finally arrive, and she didn't offer a discount for her services. I ended up being over 2 hours late to the wedding, due to Denise NOT BEING ON TIME for the SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT. UNACCEPTABLE! This caused a delay in the start of the wedding, and because I was the mother of the bride, I had many other obligations and duties to attend to, to prepare for the wedding. This caused IMMENSE STRESS for the my daughter, the bride, which could have been avoided if only Denise would have shown up on time. I went to her because she was recommended to me by a friend, but her work was unimpressive and I DO NOT RECOMMEND this salon to anyone and WILL NEVER BOOK WITH THEM AGAIN. read more

I booked an appointment for two in preparation for a wedding to get hair and make-up. They were booked and very busy on Saturday, but they squeezed me in at 6:30 am. I arrived and the salon was closed. After waiting for about 8-10 minutes I called hoping someone was inside, but there was no answer. I left a message asking them to call me upon arrival and I headed over to get coffee. After no response, I freaked out and called my cousin who recommended her and she sent her a facebook message. I would have given them 1 star, but they did do a decent job on my mom and my aunt. They lacked professionalism and accountability. I won't book with them again. It was very stressful for me to go through that and I need someone that I can depend on. read more

If I could give this place a zero I would. So unprofessional. I wanted to give this place a try since their work looked good on their Facebook page. I called Saturday morning to make an appointment for today, 4/9 @ 6:15pm. The girl said my appointment was with Denise. So, I arrived at 6:20pm (mind you I called and left a message stating I was 5 mins late). The salon is at the rear of a café. To my surprise it was closed. I walked to the front and asked the cafe employee about the salon. I explained to her I had made an appointment for today at 6:15pm. She texted Denise and even forwarded her my number. Waited for over 10 mins and never heard back. The girl told me that both Denise and the other stylist left hours before my arrival. So, I left. I'm upset because I needed my highlights done before my trip. They totally forgot about my appointment. Now, I have to find another place to get my hair done. read more
