Celeste's receptionist was amazingly warm and welcoming and got us in last minute with Celeste and Shannon. My daughter and I both got the "Halo" face frame highlights, customized to each of our preferences. Celeste went the extra mile to ensure my color was just how I like it: seamless with a root shadow and color block toning as I needed. Shannon gave my daughter the PERFECT sunkissed, natural pop she needed to brighten her without looking overdone. They also made sure we were comfortable and brought us snacks and drinks throughout our visit. I cannot recommend this salon enough. If you're on the edge, don't wait just book. read more

We had an emergency oops to fix. The salon was incredibly friendly from the moment we arrived and were greeted by the smiling face of Valerie. They did their best to accommodate us with spring break and Easter hair styling needs. Cozy environment. Great staff with plenty of smiles. Jennifer was our stylist and genuinely cared about making us feel great before walking back out. The owner, Celeste came over and met with me-remembering that we talked on the phone the day before. It was like catching up with a friend. Also, as an added bonus, the shopping center is adorable with many options to visit great stores or to grab a coffee. Sorry. I do not like to write bad reviews but I tried this salon twice on the recommendation of a friend who has been a client of Celeste, the owner, for years. Celeste would not consider taking me on as a client as I presume she is too busy. The first time I went there, I saw a very sweet, very good stylist, but they had clearly double booked her and I waited for hours. I actually felt sorry for the stylist. The second time I went was just for a blow dry and I saw Shannon, who was truly the rudest hair stylist I have ever been to. She criticized my cut and was so self-important it was absurd. When I received an urgent phone call from my surgeon, she tried to stop me from taking the call because "her time is important". Seriously, never have I been treated so rudely. So anyway, just warning you about this salon. I am a local and would highly recommend you look elsewhere. Shannon sealed the deal. read more

Whenever I visit Hilton Head I get my hair cut at Salon 5200. It's a beautiful facility and I've found all of the stylists to be friendly and professional. The location, right outside the Hilton Head Plantation main gate is convenient for me. I got the exact haircut I requested, and got a manicure too - Amy was friendly and expert at her work. Besides the nice environment I also like the complementary cup of Keurig coffee. I saw their plaque for the Island Packet Reader's Choice Award where they were Voted Island's Best Hair Salon for 2012, which doesn't surprise me. Salon 5200 is always a nice part of a trip to HHI. read more

I was visiting my parents on the island and wanted to use some spare time to finally get rid of my nasty split ends. I am admittedly not very good at maintaining my hair and due to various circumstances I haven't visited my usual hairstylist in Chicago for...about a year (shame on me, I know). I was able to book a same day appointment with Shannon. My mom had dropped me off and asked about how long the appointment should take, and Shannon responded about 30-45 minutes. She asked where I was visiting from while sitting me in the chair and then asked me what I was looking for after I let down my hair. I responded that I wanted to get rid of however much hair needed to go to take care of the dry ends because it had been about a year since my last cut. She offered to shampoo my hair and I accepted. After brushing and combing out my wet hair, asking during the process how I parted my hair, she showed me how much would need to be cut off and I said it was fine and maybe even add an inch just to be safe. She cut a straight blunt line across the entire bottom of my hair while it was laying against the chair. After finishing this she said that it looked a lot better now and hopefully won't get so tangled. The length looked pretty good so I prepared for her to clean up the blunt ends and ask me about layers, bangs, how I liked to style it, etc., but instead she pulled out the blow dryer and brush to dry my hair. While glancing at the clock I realized we were hitting the 30 minute mark and she wasn't even halfway through drying my hair. SURELY she will finish touching up my hair after she finishes drying it, right? No hair professional would leave the ends cut this way, right...right? 45 minutes into the appointment she finished blow drying my hair and grabbed a hand mirror to show me the back. Panic and confusion exploded in my head. The last ray of optimism in my brain made me hope that maybe she was checking with me on how the length looked in the back now. I nodded feebly and she removed the cape. She charged me $55 for a cut I could have gotten at Great Clips. My hair still has layers in it from the last time it was cut so there are still split ends hanging around. I'm still shocked that someone who cuts hair for a living would think that this was OK, and I certainly wouldn't trust anyone who thinks this is acceptable with my hair even if she actually put in effort. I feel taken advantage of for being "just a visitor", an "easy walk-in", and pegged as someone who doesn't care about her hair so why not just do whatever. Much to my dismay I won't be able to fix this disaster until my usual stylist returns to the country, and I'm trying my best not to let this ruin the rest of my vacation. My mom could immediately tell how unhappy I was with the cut and I told her my whole mortifying experience. She's a realtor who lives on the island and will be telling everyone she knows to avoid this salon. read more

Had my hair colored and cut by Shannon and my hair looked wonderful. I came here last year and was so happy to go back to Shannon. The salon is charming and everyone is very friendly. After reading the review from a visitor to the island, I had to write a review for Salon 5200 and in particular, Shannon. I live on the island and have been going to Shannon for 4 years for both highlights and cut and style. She is extremely good and very professional. The color is always spot-on perfect and her hair cuts are so good that I could extend the time between cuts as the hair keeps it style even as it grows out. My hair is very thin and she can make it look much thicker with the cut and style. I think it is a shame that someone who has virtually ignored her hair for over a year (she admitted it in the review) goes to a salon and after consultation and agreeing how much she wanted cut off, leaves a critical review. A stylist is not a mind reader. If she wanted layers, she should have said so. Also, by not getting regular cuts, hair will split -- sometimes very close to the scalp and it takes several cuts to get it back into shape. So please do not let one bad review affect your opinion. This is a top-notch salon with extremely good stylists. read more
